Toilet brushes in the house.

I have a toilet duck one with disposable brushes which you flush after one use.
And strongly feel this is the only option for hygiene. I can't bear the thought of my toddler or baby getting their hands on a poo encrusted toilet brush, or god forbid coming anywhere near the poo water which is always to be found pooling in the bottom of the toilet brush holder.

In my opinion it is beyond minging to own them, especially if you have young children in the house.

My husband thinks I am an anal germ hater.

What say the wise users of Mumsnet?

What do all of you think the germs in the pan are going to do? Jump out and bite you on the arse?!

HeadfirstForHalos · 14/01/2013 21:50

I'm crying laughing at "germ deniers" Grin

I used to work in a Nursing Home, all of the loos had toilet brushes Wink

HelenLynn · 14/01/2013 22:14

3monkeys3, hang on, you DO let people wear shoes, but you DON'T like loo brushes. YES to shoes and NO to loo brushes. Shoes YES, loo brush NO. No... no, you are just upside-down and too confusing Grin

BarredfromhavingStella · 14/01/2013 22:32

We have 3 toilet brushes Shock one in each loo & astoundingly none of them are caked in shit & both dc are just fine.....

Bogeyface · 14/01/2013 22:38

Well I as I have said, I am card carrying bog brush owner so I am clearly also a member of the germ denier club.

And you know what?

I am a WAITRESS! And you will never know if its me that just brought you your dinner MWAH HAH HAAAAAAAA! :o

manicbmc · 14/01/2013 22:43

Those disposable brushes that you flush are really, really bad for the environment and clog drains and stuff.

Don't let your kids play in the lav. Hmm

Bogeyface · 14/01/2013 22:46

"Mummy can we lick the bowl?"

"No, flush it like everyone else"

manicbmc · 14/01/2013 22:52

Hahahaha Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/01/2013 22:52

I'm with your DH, loo brushes are perfectly acceptable, disposable ones are wasteful and potentially drain blocking.

oldraver · 14/01/2013 22:54

This comes up a lot on MN..and there are people who throw copious amounts of bleach and supposedly disposable thingies down the loo and always seem to think they are the only ones with clean loos and those who use loo brushes.

I use a brush.....my loos are clean...... the loo brush IS NOT encrusted in poo..... there is no pooey water collecting in the loo brush holder. It is possible.... you just have to do it properly

AKissIsNotAContract · 14/01/2013 22:55

I have a loo brush.
My 'thing' is not keeping toothbrushes in the bathroom. Anyone who does that has shit on their toothbrush and is more minging than I am with my loo brush. At least I don't put that in my mouth.

DeepRedBetty · 14/01/2013 22:55

YABU about bog brushes but YANBU about Wine. Sauvignon Blanc please, TD day tomorrow so I'm pretending it's Saturday YAY!!!

GreenShadow · 14/01/2013 22:59

I use loo brushes for cleaning lime scale off the loo. I don't use it for cleaning poo marks. Even I find that pretty yucky.

OK, it's still not the most hygienic item in the house, but doesn't seem to be a cause of any sickness here.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 14/01/2013 23:01

Spot the people who live in soft water areas on this thread Grin.

OpheliaBumps · 14/01/2013 23:01

I can't believe no-one's commented on Lauriesfairy who uses a hand scrubber which she washes and microwaves afterwards Envy that's [vom] by the way.

Surely putting a shitty scrubber somewhere you heat food is much more manky than having a loo brush in your bathroom?

snowday · 14/01/2013 23:03

What about all the poo germs on money and bank cards.......?

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 14/01/2013 23:04

This isn't as bad as the person who disliked other people having magazines in their loos because, while she was sitting on the toilet , the sight of a magazine would make her think about the fact that her hosts might defecate on that toilet while reading a magazine, and people defecating was a distressing thing to be forced to think about whilst defecating.

So YABU OP, but YAN the most uptight loo-related poster on MN today.

manicbmc · 14/01/2013 23:05

Is there an award? Grin

snowday · 14/01/2013 23:07

Having trouble with my link 0n Dirty Money

It's there now.

Primafacie · 14/01/2013 23:12

I love magazines in the loos. I find the idea that my hosts also poo weirdly comforting, like we're all in the same boat. toddles off to therapy sesh

HazeltheMcWitch · 14/01/2013 23:17

Loving this thread. But then I am a keep-your-shoes-on germ denier.

Incidentally, I was very immuno-comromised (Chemo), and I had ti avoid certain health risks... under-cooked meats and eggs, packed public transport in winter (or wear gloves) etc etc... No mention was ever made of boggy bog brushes.

BunFagFreddie · 14/01/2013 23:19

I don't know how DS manages it, but I definitely can't do without the toilet brush. But, I generally think they are evil minging things.

ArtemisatBrauron · 14/01/2013 23:20

My two and a half year old brother and my mum came to stay with us in our old flat and while she was in the bath he washed her back with the toilet brush before she realised what it was... Thank god she's very laid back and thought it was hilarious, I was grossed out though!

Primafacie · 14/01/2013 23:22

I had a dream last night that I was reading ingredient list on a packet of healthy, vegetable-flavoured crackers, and it contained a warning not to consume if you are taking any drugs such as panadol.

What's it got to do with this thread? Nothing, but I sure as hell am not a germ denier. A germ avoider, maybe.

Primafacie · 14/01/2013 23:23

Artemis that made me lol! Your mum is ace, I would have freaked out!
