to send my nanny and toddler out in the snow?

to fetch my preschooler from nursery? It's a 15 minute walk. Not hard-going underfoot, no snow's settled yet. Toddler will be well-wrapped up, in cosy-toes and under rain-hood (and probably asleep, since she usually drops off on the way).

I'm working (at home). Neither she or I drive. I know it's okay but part of me feels it's wrong. If I was in an office, I wouldn't feel this guilt, but I feel like I should stop work and go instead.

Many mums up and down the country are doing exactly the same thing. Your nanny is paid to look after your children. I hope your nanny is appropiately dressed.

YANBU

If you're really feeling worried, give the nanny cash for a taxi there and back. If it helps, I cycled to childminder/work with my 3yo this morning! she survived but wanted the wind to go away

WorraLiberty · 14/01/2013 10:41

No don't risk it

They will probably explode and their heads will fall off.

WorraLiberty · 14/01/2013 10:43

A taxi for a 15 min walk?

Just why? Grin

Thumbwitch · 14/01/2013 10:43

If you're working then no, YANBU.
Although if I were you I'd be out in the snow anyway - I love a bit of snow, especially with little children!

megandraper · 14/01/2013 10:44

Worra Grin

I'm not worried, it's perfectly safe. A taxi would be more dangerous (no child seats here). I just feel like a lazy lump sitting here in the warm while they go out in the cold.

Reallytired My nanny is a Yorkshire lass - she probably won't even bother with a coat.

Though I'd better get off MN and make sure I AM working, or else IABU.

It's only snow. It's like rain, but a bit more solid. I walked to school this morning with dd and was asked by 3 different mothers if I drove today Hmm. They'll survive OP.

WorraLiberty · 14/01/2013 10:47

Just kick them out and don't expect them back for a while...they'll be having too much fun Grin

If you're feeling really nice, pop some hot chocolate on for when they get back.

melika · 14/01/2013 10:48

Just forget you are at home, you are supposed to be working aren't you?
Many of us trudge up and down the road in all weathers, no problem at all.

mollymole · 14/01/2013 10:49

I can't see any problem at all

ZZZenAgain · 14/01/2013 10:51

I think you have to tell yourself you are at work even if you are not at work outside the home. I'm sure it will be fine for the nanny to collect her.

megandraper · 14/01/2013 10:53

yes, i wouldn't think twice about the weather if I was going - last year I pulled DS1 and DS2 to pre-school on the sledge, with DD strapped to my front on the Baby Bjorn (not doing that this year, nearly killed me...)

I just feel lazy! But yes, I am at work even though it's in a spare bedroom.

Writehand · 14/01/2013 11:10

How overprotective are you, OP? It's just weather. Babies don't melt. Mums all over the country are moving kids about regardless of the snow. YABU, honey.

KellyElly · 14/01/2013 11:13

No don't risk it. They will probably explode and their heads will fall off. Grin

Cherriesarelovely · 14/01/2013 11:19

Why on earth are you worried? It will be anice little walk. 15 mins is perhaps a mile? They will be fine.

GogoGobo · 14/01/2013 11:24

OP. I hear you! It's hard when you are working at home but just imagine you are in the office. I always end up "jumping in" when I work from home

I like Worra's idea of a hot choccy on their return.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 14/01/2013 11:27

I'm a cm and my lot were playing out for an hour before school on sledges etc, they would have no choice but to go if you weren't there.

ZZZenAgain · 14/01/2013 11:27

I think it is the nanny she is worried about, whether it is fair to expect the nanny to go

5alive4life · 14/01/2013 11:28

oh fgs its a bit of snow!
i am a nanny and my charges and I will be out in it all afternoon! i grew up in Canada and once the snow falls it does not melt until spring.....it migjt surprise you that everyone carries on as normal! Shock

kinkyfuckery · 14/01/2013 11:30

FFS it's a bit of snow, it won't hurt them!

I think they'll be OK - it takes more than half an hour before they go rusty.

YABU, Op.

Bit of fresh air never killed anyone.

valiumredhead · 14/01/2013 11:43

She'd have to do it if you didn't work at home.
