to send my nanny and toddler out in the snow?

to fetch my preschooler from nursery? It's a 15 minute walk. Not hard-going underfoot, no snow's settled yet. Toddler will be well-wrapped up, in cosy-toes and under rain-hood (and probably asleep, since she usually drops off on the way).

I'm working (at home). Neither she or I drive. I know it's okay but part of me feels it's wrong. If I was in an office, I wouldn't feel this guilt, but I feel like I should stop work and go instead.

Yanbu you are paying her to do a job so you can do yours.

lovelyladuree · 14/01/2013 12:04

It is snow, not nuclear bomb fallout.

specialsubject · 14/01/2013 12:06

Exactly. There's duty of care, and then there is outrageous mollycoddling. Clothes on, out of door.

safer than driving and better for everyone!

You are WORKING!

DH is working from home today, I wouldn't dream of asking him to run an errand in the snow for me, he has work to do he will probably bunk off for an hour later to make a snowman anyway

Lueji · 14/01/2013 12:12

Would you ask your nanny to do your job?

Sokmonsta · 14/01/2013 12:14

YANBU. I walked dd to school with dts wrapped up in the pushchair. 10 minute walk. Dd loved skipping through the light scattering of snow. I fully intend walking to fetch her, even though its supposed to be heavy snow here at 3. I cba to de-snow the car as it'll take longer than the walk to school. No option for taxi here.

megandraper · 14/01/2013 12:20

Well, nanny doesn't appear bothered by going out in snow while I sit around on my (fat) bottom. So I guess there is no issue, though I still feel rather lazy.

Later this week my DM is doing childcare for me, if the snow is still this bad, I will probably do the school/nursery runs even though it cuts into my day a lot. She's not a paid employee, and she's older.

I love how half the posters on this thread have the wrong end of the stick completely! Grin

Bedhopper, I think you're probably right to do it instead of your mum; but it would have been a bit daft to do it instead of your nanny (unless she had brittle bone disease, Raynaud's or some other condition that made her at huge risk in the snow) :)

megandraper · 14/01/2013 12:46

thanks thumbwitch.

I think most MNers don't read the thread before they post!

My DS has cold urticaria (google it - i can't be bothered to explain). I walked him and my DD to school this morning in the snow (20 mins) and I will walk him home. If he can do it, albeit so covered up only his eyes were visable, anyone can.

megandraper · 14/01/2013 13:15

sorry about your DS, autumnmum, but think you haven't read my posts either!

Did read your posts (I too am supposed to be working from home!). I thought you meant you were gulity about the cold, not the work. Get off MN and get back to it Grin

Yes ma'am Smile
