To be a geeky Doctor Who fan?

Geekster · 13/01/2013 21:12

I am a massive Doctor Who fan hence my user name. I have all the stories on DVD or video, have most of the books which have been well read. Subscribe to Doctor Who Magazine and am a member of The Doctor Who Appreciation Society and have had a couple of articles I've written published in their magazine. My DH can't understand my love of it, he tolerates the new episodes but refuses to watch any of the older ones. He is away at the moment so I'm having a Doctor Who marathon.

Please tell me I'm still 'normal'.

A Geek section? Grin

Oodsigma · 14/01/2013 11:12

We keep asking if we can have Moffat for a webchat but no response yet :(

manicbmc · 14/01/2013 11:13

There is a geeky stuff section!

SamuelWestsMistress · 14/01/2013 11:14

Haha yes!

"AIBU to think 11 is better than 10?"

Allonsy · 14/01/2013 11:17

Love dr who too, not as much as ds though its his only intrest in life and he watches several episodes a day, he wants to build a dalek empire, you can move in this house without tripping over dakeks and cybermen, pictures of tardises etc...

Geekster · 14/01/2013 11:19

Allonsy, your house sounds great.

Great name Allons y :)

Domaby · 14/01/2013 16:47

I love it too. DH and I have been collecting all the DVDs for the last decade. Can't wait for the animated episodes of the Reign of Terror!

Geekster · 14/01/2013 16:58

SamuelWestMistress, YANBU to think that 11 is better than 10. Everyone has their favourites, it doesn't matter which one you like best. If you asked me though I'd quote the Brigadier (though might not be quoted exactly right). 'Splendid fellows all of them'.

Love Dr Who. Been a fan for years. Used to go to Swansea in the 80s for meetings of DWAS.

Now my 4 year old loves it. He hasn't many episodes but he loves'playing Dr Who', drawing books of adventures and pretending to be the Matt Smith (his little brother is David Tennant!).

I found an A-Z of monsters in the charity shop the other day. 1.99 bargain! many happy hours reading with Ds.

Geekster · 14/01/2013 21:17

Dawndonna · 15/01/2013 09:29

pmd you Geekster
Oh, and I went on holiday with him once. There was a disaster! Grin

KayHarker · 15/01/2013 09:38

I still love it. Am enjoying Matt Smith immensely and looking forward to Clara Oswin Oswald muchly.

QuietNinjaTardis · 15/01/2013 09:44

Yanbu. Dh thinks I'm mental. I went to the convention last year for my 30th birthday present Grin it was fab. I met Danny Hargreaves the special effects dude and dh randomly bumped into matt smith and got his autograph for me. I had a photo with Arthur darvill and when I talked to the canteen lady she said he was the nicest out of the bunch even though they were all nice. It was brilliant! My family and dh family have ripped the piss but I couldn't care less. Can't wait till doc who is back on the tele.

One of the tie-in books mentioned good things about Doctor Who fans, including the following:

'Doctor Who fans don't run riot and beat each other up if the enemies seem to be winning' (although they do wear long scarves and watch things on Saturdays)
' Doctor Who fans know the difference between actor and character' (apparently an actor in a Star Trek film who played the guy who killed Captain Kirk got lots of death threats, and soap actors get letters warning that their character's spouse is being unfaithful'
'stamps are for posting letters, coins are to replace barter, Doctor Who is to entertain - which one is the most reasonable thing in which to be interested?'

'geek' - a poncey arty person's word for someone who is interested in science, science-fiction, or knows something about it.

glued to it since 'Planet of the Spiders', although since Sir David Tennant hung up his specs I have only watched the episodes once.

this dosnt apply to my 7 year old he thinks dr who is real, that virgin advert with david tennant causes many stressfull conversations lol

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 15/01/2013 10:20

Oh can I join this quiche?

Best claim to fame ever was being Matt Smiths Road Safety Officer when he was at school. Resulted in being awarded unbeatable cool Auntie points on the basis I taught Dr Who how to cross the road.

fancyanother · 15/01/2013 11:47

Liza what a brilliant claim to fame!

I would like to add to the benefits of being a Doctor Who fan- My son loves Doctor Who- it used to be his one and only love- cue sonicing things open, running away from Daleks (baby brother), Doctor Who theme tune inspired interpretive dance, now sometimes replaced by Spiderman - Jumping of sofas, beating up brother, climbing on furniture, door frames, chairs etc etc and Power rangers- general beating things up. Give me Doctor Who's peace loving Brainiac any day of the week!

Flobbadobs · 15/01/2013 12:11

Another geek here but am into most sci fi tbh. This year O shall mostly be watching the new DW series and the new Star Trek film Grin
