to angry with Tesco for having a policy of not delivering infant milk!!!!

I ordered a large shop from Tesco including Aptamil baby milk, as it was delivery I ordered all my large, bulky items and lots of baby milk, 99 x 200ml cartons, which is about 2.5 weeks worth of milk. 99 is the maximum that you can order.

My order arrived, with 11 cartons of milk, saying that the rest was out of stock. This meant that the majority of my order wasn't delivered, I called customer services to complain that I wouldn't have placed the order if they couldn't deliver the main items (i wouldnt have paid £4.50 to deliver just the other items) they apologised for not letting me know before delivery that the items wouldn't be delivers and refunded the £4.50. So far all clear until I asked when the stock would be available (I only have enough milk to last until Sunday evening) then it all got a bit weird, the store was called and the message relayed to me was that they have plenty of stock of the milk but won't supply more than 11 cartons from an online order to prevent people reselling and shipping it out if the country?!?! 11 cartons is roughly 2 days worth of milk for a 12 week old baby.

Tesco have nothing online about this 11 carton limit and don't plan on changing the policy anytime soon!?! If you go into the store you can buy more 11 cartons btw, they deny this but I did it, I bought 45 cartons from my branch when I first using the milk.

Before everyone starts on at me for FF I DID breast feed for 7 weeks, I had mastitis by day three and never got my left breast clear, had to take antibiotics which gave DD terrible diarrhoea (scary with a newborn) and after struggling with right breast only and then combination feeding I had to give it up at 7.5 weeks after mastitis kept recurring.

I am outraged that Tescos are treating their customers so badly?!?! I don't know when I will get out to a supermarket so have placed an order with Sainsburys.

I understand why the policy is in place, but they should have it on the website that there is a maximum order restriction.

It sounds like you had a rough start with breastfeeding, and I'm sorry you didn't get more support :(

Understand your hesitation to change to powder, however if you follow the instructions fully and make feeds up correctly, it shouldn't make much difference for your DD.

That's nuts.....but........the 1 ltr bottles last 2 days in the fridge and you can easily order 7 or so for a week. I do this but also add the little cartons for through the night. There has been an issue with aptamil recently on supply as there has been a spate of issues with china hoovering up supply. I know my local Tesco and sainsbo has struggled to get them in.

The 1 litre bottles are usually follow on milk, not suitable for under 6 months.

But the fact is if you can only buy a certain amount it should state that. Rather than them hold your money in their account until they refund.

Doesn't matter what you were buying and it shouldn't be up to Tescos wherever you live to decide you might be an exporter of small cartons of formula

Nor is it up to Tesco or anyone else to tell you what type of formula you can buy. You cash your choice.

Aptamil recently introduced big bottles of all their formula. They introduced lots of useful things when i didn't need them!

I've ordered more than 11 but never anything like 99.

I would use amazon op.

As boob said though using some powder would be fine as long as you follow instructions and save you a lot if money.

I used powder in the day and cartons for going out & night and I think I used to order 15 cartons and about 1 box of powder a week.

I had the same issue. I do my online baby shopping separately now - from Boots. Bulk buys of milk,, nappies, wipes etc.

Marquesas I have only used it for a short time so not too worried about the cost, after DD moved onto FF from breast she got terrible constipation and the paediatrician thinks that this the cause of her large umbilical hernia, as her tummy is getting settled (fingers crossed) I am not going to change her feed at all, not risking it! Once the hernia reduces and she is regular will move onto powder.

I don't want to make any changes tbh, I just want her hernia reduced and pooing normal. It's going well so I am too nervous to change any part of her feed.

As I was combination feeding we used room temperature (advised to be similar to breast milk) so using fridge or heating up milk will also be different for her and I don't want that. I think I will try Ocado as recommended on here. I know being it like this is more expensive but it's not forever.

When my twins were babies I used to get Boots to home deliver a months supply of ready made formula at a time, as it was too stressful on relying on the supermarkets to deliver enough, if any at all.

How rubbish! Not strictly the same thing but relating to online orders: I ordered 2 packs of 52 nappies from Sainsburys as part of my online order (they were on offer). I got a substitution - for the same brand but a different size! No good to me at all! Grrr.

Op the first milk ready made 1ltr aptamil is the same as the cartons, dead handy as others have said it keeps for 48 hours in fridge. I thought it kept better as you can close the bottle after pouring our what toy need rather than having an open carton in the fridge.

That isn't biologically possible. Your breasts don't run out. They can slow down to 'pay as you go', as opposed to 'pre-paid', but milk will always be there for as long as your baby is at the breast.

Tesco are arses though. I used those cartons for a variety of reasons (mainly because they were more flexible and I have a haphazzard lifestyle), and don't remember any restriction on my internet shops.

I think ready made British formula is a big seller in china after they had all the probs with their formula being contaminated. The Chinese will pay extra for British/non Chinese milk as they think it's safer. I've heard of people exporting this and the main prob is to prove its from the uk.

When I was in Hong Kong in October last year the cartons of Cow & Gate were double the price selling at about £16 a carton instead of the £8 we pay here. A lot of people are bulk buying formula milk in Hong Kong to take back to mainland China with them as they don't trust the Chinese brands due to the issues with the poisonous milk that was being sold in China.

I think the Tesco website should state how many cartons you can order at a time, rather than accepting your order and then telling you afterwards that you can't have that many cartons.

hazeyjane. You're wrong. Aptamil do the first milk in one litre bottles. I feed them to my little one.

Starlight I was only able to use right breast at times and I couldn't keep up supply, it did actually stop while baby was still wanting to feed. Breast feeding specialist suggested Aptamil for when it happened.

I think the reason the op wants to stick to the little cartons though is the room temperature thing though, so she doesn't have to have them fridge cold or risk heating them too much. I was the same with ds, because any slight 'wrongness' in temperature made his reflux worse.

Although we will always try to cater for your orders, an order of large quantities of a line can only be fulfilled at the discretion of the store. For example if you were to make an order of 10 bottles of wine which would use up all that store's stock, the store may only deliver 5 bottles.

So, whilst it is not ideal, it is in their terms and conditions unfortunately.

Interesting about temperature affecting reflux, did you notice it worse with hot or cold. My little one suffers silent reflux and hadn't thought of temperature.

I've posted about this before....but I think it was Asda and their ridiculous restrictions.
When I rang up to point out that 12 cartons was not more for two days feeds I had an argument with the store manager. He said that to be fair to other customers they had to limit what they sold and it was also due to weight restrictions on the vans. I calculated approx how much coke/fanta I could order before the call just in case (limitless...and in excess of 48 litres) so asked him to explain that side of his argument.
Sent DH into said store that day to see the huge amount of milk in stock (and ask for more for the trolley)!!

Abandoned them and Ocado all the way from then on.
