to angry with Tesco for having a policy of not delivering infant milk!!!!

I ordered a large shop from Tesco including Aptamil baby milk, as it was delivery I ordered all my large, bulky items and lots of baby milk, 99 x 200ml cartons, which is about 2.5 weeks worth of milk. 99 is the maximum that you can order.

My order arrived, with 11 cartons of milk, saying that the rest was out of stock. This meant that the majority of my order wasn't delivered, I called customer services to complain that I wouldn't have placed the order if they couldn't deliver the main items (i wouldnt have paid £4.50 to deliver just the other items) they apologised for not letting me know before delivery that the items wouldn't be delivers and refunded the £4.50. So far all clear until I asked when the stock would be available (I only have enough milk to last until Sunday evening) then it all got a bit weird, the store was called and the message relayed to me was that they have plenty of stock of the milk but won't supply more than 11 cartons from an online order to prevent people reselling and shipping it out if the country?!?! 11 cartons is roughly 2 days worth of milk for a 12 week old baby.

Tesco have nothing online about this 11 carton limit and don't plan on changing the policy anytime soon!?! If you go into the store you can buy more 11 cartons btw, they deny this but I did it, I bought 45 cartons from my branch when I first using the milk.

Before everyone starts on at me for FF I DID breast feed for 7 weeks, I had mastitis by day three and never got my left breast clear, had to take antibiotics which gave DD terrible diarrhoea (scary with a newborn) and after struggling with right breast only and then combination feeding I had to give it up at 7.5 weeks after mastitis kept recurring.

I am outraged that Tescos are treating their customers so badly?!?! I don't know when I will get out to a supermarket so have placed an order with Sainsburys.

Pigs my son has an umbilical hernia too and would only drink carton milk. I know his doctors insisted it wouldn't make a difference but giving him powdered formula was a disaster. Never had a problem with Tesco enforcing limits online and we always ordered at least 15. Guess it varies store to store ? Glad you got it from elsewhere.

My ds is other way round will have powder but not cartons and he was funny about temp as well. He has feeds at room temp and his reflux has gone!

Another good thing about ocado is they only debit money from your account once shopping has been delivered and you have accepted it which stops nonsense about waiting get refunds and money to clear etc.

I got all the milk that I wanted from Sainsburys today, Tesco have sent me an apology and £10 voucher (with no minimum spend). I still don't intend to sell FF on the black Market.....

Even when you go into store, some supermarkets won't sell the small cartons in bulk. I used powder formula when at home, but the cartons and steribottles when away (after going to Lativa when DS was 4 months and having a melt down as we couldn't boil a kettle in the hotel room).

Over the three year that my children required formula my DH and I have had to argue and reason with the till staff to be allowed to buy more than 12 in one go. Sometimes we had to both pay for 12 and then put them in the car and then go back into the store to buy more.

It wasn't every time (I think it may have been the rule but some of the staff used some common sense), the reason we were given was that they wanted to make sure that they didn't sell out of any one product and it was 12 max of any one item.

Sorry Pigs if I sounded rude! I just assumed that you were only FF (not BF at all), because of the quantity of milk you need!

You can make milk up in advance like this:

1. Sterilise bottles - I would prepare enough for the next 12-24 hours, so maybe 3-5?
   
2. Fill kettle with fresh water and boil.
   
3. Put 5 to 6oz of hot boiled water in each bottle.
   
4. Leave to cool until 70 degrees.
   
5. Add correct amount of powder
   
6. Cool VERY quickly. I like to use a tub filled with ice cubes and water.
   
7. Once cool, put straight into the fridge (not in the door). Use as needed.
   

DO NOT PUT INTO FRIDGE UNTIL COLD!! Putting anything warm into a fridge will encourage bacteria to grow.

You can warm them in a jug of hot water if your baby likes warm milk.

I noticed in Sainsbury's that they limited purchases of formula (made up cartons or powder I think) to 6 per customer. Thought it was a bit odd at the time.

I can understand a restriction if it´s from a store, but to not clearly point it out is terrible imo.

I thought all online shopping came from a central warehouse, so shows what I know!

But a gentle bugger off to BF promoters, this isn't a post about BF, it's a rant in AIBU about Tesco's, I don't need your input. I am no longer BF, I put that on my post btw so I don't need "support" thanks, I had all the support I needed from HV, midwife, consultant and one of the top breast specialists in the UK. I didn't put any "misinformation" on here and my ego isn't so big that I think my experience will influence others? It was personal to me and had nothing to do with my rant at Tesco's.

OP starlight is right, it sounds like the information you may have been given is incorrect, if you do want any help and support with continuing/increasing breastfeeding do pop over to the feeding board as the posters there are fab and very well informed. Am also a bit suspicious that she's recommending aptamil at room temperature, I know of course that breastfeeding advisors do sometimes need to advise formula but to advise a particular brand is very bad practice. Also, breast milk doesn't come out at room temperature, but body temperature! Still, I'd stick with room temp if your baby likes it, saves hassle anyway. But yes - I'm not sure about this advisor you've seen so just be aware there is other help and support if you want it, if you don't that's fine too.
