To think dressing a baby in a babygro isn't trampy or lazy?

Apparently so according to a friends nan.

Because you wouldn't go out in your pj's, so why would you take your baby out in theirs?

Actually I would if I could

And, another thing... Why do people insist on putting baby girls who are trying to learn to crawl in dresses? It just makes them look like they are trying to strangle them. Poor little things.

valiumredhead · 11/01/2013 15:51

Ds always used to wear baby grows right up until he was about 10 months, with a nice home knit from my mum or nan. I really don't like proper clothes on babies - they look so uncomfy.

florilegia · 11/01/2013 15:52

YADNBU! Although, when DS was about 6 months old, we were out in a cafe (him in a babygro), and a little boy of about 3 or 4 was staring at us. He turned to his mum, and said in a loud, affronted voice, "Mum, that baby is out in his pyjamas! And it's lunchtime!" The mum tried to explain that that was quite normal for little babies, but her son was absolutely convinced that it was indecent!

CrackedNipplesSuchFun · 11/01/2013 15:52

YANBU at all. My DS was in them until 4+ months, and even when I stopped using them in the day he would wear vest, t-shirt and jogging bottom. Who wants to be restricted and trussed up when they are learning how to move properly!?

nickelbabe · 11/01/2013 15:54

babies are much more comfy in babygros.

they have no restrictive parts, no stiff bits, not sticking-in-out bits.

perfect.

NolittleBuddahsorTigerMomshere · 11/01/2013 15:54

YANBU, they have their whole lives to be restricted by fancy clothes, and IMHO babies should look like babies, I loathe trendy children's clothes.

valiumredhead · 11/01/2013 15:54

Woolworths used to sell lovely cotton ones in a pack of 3 for £9.99 :)

BonaDea · 11/01/2013 15:55

YANBU. I hate seeing little tiny babies in jeans and dresses and stuff. So silly. And don't get me started on 'track suits'. Bleugh.

Doubt my baby will be seen in anything other than a babygro for the first 6 months of his/her life!

Graciescotland · 11/01/2013 15:58

I love babygros too!

florilegia · 11/01/2013 16:00

I heard of a baby who went home from the hospital in an honest-to-goodness three-piece suit. That makes the tiny "proper clothes" look sensible...

Anniegetyourgun · 11/01/2013 16:00

Babygros RULE. Eminently practical. No, I wouldn't go out in my pjs, but I wouldn't go out wearing a frilly dress that didn't quite cover a large bulky nappy, either, or scratch mitts, or satin bootees or a pink poke bonnet, because I am not a baby (spookily enough). Some people are just looking for an excuse to look down their noses at other people.

oldraver · 11/01/2013 16:00

I think with more adult type clothes being available for babies people seem to of forgotten that babygro's are baby clothes. It shouldn't matter what you dress them in,( though I'm not fond of the jean type stuff) but its certainly not trampy to keep them in all in ones

Lyrasilvertongued · 11/01/2013 16:01

YANBU, my 3 month old dd wears them most days and is most comfy in them rather than 'outfits' - dressing her in anything else is more for my benefit than hers!

DameFanny · 11/01/2013 16:03

Babygros are proper 'foundation' garments - no need to worry about socks coming off, no gapping at the waist - just layer on top if you're going out.

The only point of putting babies in jeans and combats is to have a spare pocket for your door key Grin

bedmonster · 11/01/2013 16:05

Not really bothered really. As soon as all mine reached 6 months they were dressed in day clothes and babygros for night. I don't care if others leave their dc in babygros for longer but all my dc have had lovely clothes bought for them, it seemed a shame to waste them.

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 11/01/2013 16:49

YANBU, DS (4 months) has some very fetching babygros in lovely bright colours. For a tiny non crawling baby, they are the most practical clothing choice.

stopgap · 11/01/2013 16:53

Huh? My son wore kimonos and onesies until he was at least three-months-old, after which I put snowsuits over said onesies.

We live in NYC and he was born in late August. I think comfort and keeping him cool were my main priorities, not to see him trussed up like a turkey.

(And I'm another one who loathes to see babies under at least a year in jeans.).

CecilyP · 11/01/2013 16:58

The clue is in the name, really. So dressing a baby in a babygro isn't trampy or lazy. It is sensible. Babies grow so quickly that it makes no sense in buying them special outfits in the first 6 months. And anything with a waistband tends go get caught in the nappy and gets wet and unpleasant. And having said that, an adult wouldn't normally go out in a nappy either.

Lueji · 11/01/2013 16:59

b e c a u s e i t ' s a b a b y .

And babies fall asleep a lot during the day, and they are mostly on their backs?

And it must be bloody umconfortable for them to be in anything other.

Mine lived in babygrows until he started to stand up, basically.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/01/2013 17:00

YANBU

Babygros until 9 months for most days.

One of my friends insisted on stuffing her very chubby DD into 'proper clothes' from about 6 weeks old. The poor child was obviously so uncomfortable with things digging in and tight around her neck :(

Nancy66 · 11/01/2013 17:01

babies in babygros make me melt.....they just looks so adorable.

higgle · 11/01/2013 17:03

we called them grow bags, and DS 1& 2 wore them mainly until about 9 months. DS1 was signed up for prep school in one.

DoItToJulia · 11/01/2013 17:06

YANBU at all! Babygros all the way here!

BegoniaBampot · 11/01/2013 17:10

I'll stick to my babygrows and my, erm neighbour can stick to putting her little baby in a red fake leather bomber jacket.

bluebiscuit · 11/01/2013 17:11

Dressing a baby in a babygro is sensible. The main thing about them is that they don't have a waistband. I think it is by far the most comfortable item for a baby to wear.
