To wonder if Amazon Prime is worth the £49 a year?

I do order from them a lot but I don't know if its too much to pay for next day delivery. I'd get Amazon Family membership too, but that's only really useful if you need stuff that's on offer. Has anyone got it? Do you think it's worth it?

I love it. I buy loads of books as a student and it saves me a fortune in delivery fees every year. Next day delivery is fab too.

redlac · 07/01/2013 16:42

Yes - free next day delivery and kindle lending library!

itsthesimplethings · 07/01/2013 16:46

My son forgot to cancel on time, he rang up and they refunded it.

INeverFinishAnythi · 07/01/2013 16:51

Same here, also forgot to cancel mine and then emailed them, they refunded it no questions asked. The only reason I'd done the trial in the first place was to get a present on time for my mums birthday which I'd left very late to buy, and it didn't come the next day anyway! The driver got lost apparently (!) and it came the following day. So I was not impressed, and certainly wouldn't pay £49 for it.

DoubleMum · 07/01/2013 16:55

I use it loads so worth it for me, and also have added my sister and parents as family members - we share the cost.

KenAdams · 07/01/2013 17:15

Craic I think if you go past the trial date but haven't used it, they will refund your money.

They also have a "do not auto renew option" so you don't have to remember to cancel ( I just came out of a trial).

Is the library good? Is there any way to see what books you can borrow before you sign up?

I wish we had the movies too. I don't see why UK Prime members don't have that option - seems a bit unfair to me.

Why is it 49 pounds? It is 9.99 euros here in Italy, or am I getting something wrong?

MrsJohnDeere · 07/01/2013 17:34

No. I have it but regret it. Half the deliveries don't come the next day as they should (and Saturday ones never do).

NadiaWadia · 07/01/2013 17:35

The library is not very good (unless you are a slow reader!) as you are only allowed ONE book a month - rubbish. Not all books are available to borrow anyway.

I would say compared to what US Amazon prime members yet (online TV etc.) the Amazon prime in the UK is not worth it. Can be useful at Xmas thiough, so if you can, just take one month's free trial in December and don't forget to cancel!

mcmooncup · 07/01/2013 17:35

You have just reminded me to cancel....thank you Smile

BumgrapesofWrath · 07/01/2013 17:38

Not worth it! Especially as they use Yodel for their next day delivery who are ridiculously unreliable...

fuzzpig · 07/01/2013 17:39

Ken - if you browse kindle books on the website, some of them will say 'available to borrow' under the title and others won't.

I am really astounded that there is a one book a month limit, though, that's ridiculous. I could understand if it were a limit of one book at a time though.

Startail · 07/01/2013 17:41

DH dropped his because he said a lot of his weird computer and technical stuff comes from obscure suppliers or was to heavy so not enough of his orders qualified. It want worth it for the few that did.

Hulababy · 07/01/2013 17:44

Is there an easy way to see all books available in Kindle library?

MrsKeithRichards · 07/01/2013 17:45

I would have. Got a free month with my kindle but you only get one book a month. One a week and I'd be interested.

Surprised me that it's nearly 50 pounds in the UK. ?30 here in Germany so around 23 pounds.

I use it as there is no online supermarket shopping here but I can use Amazon for juice, long life milk, bulk buy cereal etc. Worth it for a couple of pounds a month.

NetworkGuy · 07/01/2013 18:04

"It is 9.99 euros here in Italy, or am I getting something wrong?"

"Unlimited FREE shipping with guaranteed delivery within 2-3 working days ...

Get it in 1 business day just ? 3.98 per item ...

After the trial, the annual fee of Amazon Prime is just 9.99 euros."

No, not wrong, but it looks like rather different terms. In UK, Prime gives 'next day' delivery (apart from Sat/Sun) for things from Amazon. However, there's also FREE supersaver (3-5 days I think) with no annual fee. Looks like your 'Prime' gives you 2-3 day shipping after you have paid the low fee of ?9.99 per annum but next day still appears to be at extra cost per order.

cinnamonnut · 07/01/2013 18:08

I have it and love it. I don't think I have ever had anything arrive late - possibly once or twice.

I ordered some pens a couple of hours ago for guaranteed delivery tomorrow - very handy

NetworkGuy · 07/01/2013 18:08

Fiderer is correct - from
Amazon.de :-

"Try Amazon Prime 1 month for free:

Free next day delivery

No minimum order

Morning or Evening Express for only 5 EUR / item

Borrow a Kindle book for free each month from the Kindle Lending Library

After your free month Amazon Prime costs only 29 EUR a year."

Maybe they are responding to market forces... Brits were willing to pay 49 quid so they fleeced us. Germans were not, so get it for half the cost!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/01/2013 18:09

DH has it and we use it all the time, at least two or three orders a week for odds and ends, presents, stuff for the house, books, CDs etc, it has virtually always arrived next day even in the run up to Christmas and DH can receive deliveries at work so it is very handy indeed.

NetworkGuy · 07/01/2013 18:10

Amazon would probably blame VAT for the difference, knowing their dodgy tax methods !! Angry

NetworkGuy · 07/01/2013 18:12

Those of you who use it and are happy... how about contacting Amazon and asking when they will offer you items from LoveFilm for free,* since they own LF too !

NetworkGuy · 07/01/2013 18:12
