To expect to book a room for 3 children in a hotel?

Can anyone give recommendations of hotels that accommodate more than 2 children in a family room? I've been trying to find one all day for a weekend in Bristol and can only come up with self services apartments and the only ones left are really expensive! Help :o/

Look on the roomsfor5 website.

Lottiegal · 03/01/2013 16:47

Thanks I've tried that and there's nothing in central Bristol unfortunately!

I've had this problem. What's worse is most of them require you to have "one adult" in each room, which is really awkward with large families.
Sympathies, have you looked at hostels?

geogteach · 03/01/2013 16:51

Youth hostel? Am staying in one in Bath as I type, for the same reason. This is the third we have stayed in this year and you have choice to self cater or buy food here.

Dinosaurdrip · 03/01/2013 16:54

Have you just been looking on line? Sometimes it pays to call the hotel and ask, I work on reception, taking reservations in a hotel and if you book rooms on line it is only possible to book 2 adults 2 children but if you called there are ways around this. Ie interconnecting rooms, suites or the option of two of the children sharing a bed.

janek · 03/01/2013 16:57

have you tried booking.com? i agree though, i just had a theoretical look for you and it does seem expensive. when are you going? how old are dc? could you take a travel cot/thermarest and sleeping bag for the youngest?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 03/01/2013 16:59

where in Bristol? Have you tried the Youth Hostel?

weblette · 03/01/2013 17:01

B&Bs are often the best bet, they might have a family room.

Kendodd · 03/01/2013 17:04

We had this, we had to book two hotel rooms. They were next door to each other we would put the DCs to bed all in one room, their room was at the end of the corridor, then we when to our room and watched TV. We used a monitor and left our door open so that we would see them if any tried to escape. At bedtime one of us when to sleep with them in their room, the other stayed in the other room on their own so they could have a good nights sleep.

I wish hotels would cater for this though, families of five aren't even unusual.

weblette · 03/01/2013 17:07

Try booking for a family of six... We usually take two rooms, although they've never been next door to each other despite requests Hmm Means we seldom stay overnight :(

Kendodd · 03/01/2013 17:08

BTW this was at a travelodge. We specified in the booking the room MUST be next to each other. Despite this when we arrived they had given us two rooms that weren't even in the same building, luckily they were able to move us.

Our two rooms at travelodge were cheaper than the one family room we could find that could fit us all in, that was in a grim looking B&B.

But I would love to hear from anybody else who has stayed in hotels where two rooms are not needed, as I'm sure there are more than listed here. Interconnecting can work, but obviously you'll be paying for two rooms. The last time we stayed in a hotel with the 3 DC we went for a suit, so it wasn't cheap.

Chopstheduck · 03/01/2013 17:43

It is a nightmare. Are the kids old enough to be trusted in their own room?

We're s family of 6 and usually book two rooms, dd and ds1 take one, then dh, me and the dts in the other. We just actually book two lots of 1 adult, 2 kids then swap around!

weblette · 03/01/2013 17:47

Oh those websites are fab Lynette they'll be straight on to bookmark!

LynetteScavo · 03/01/2013 17:57

I think with a lot of those hotels, if you try to book on-line they will tell you they don't have room. I think you need to call them personally and let them know you want to put 3DC in the same room as you.

BerthaTheBogCleaner · 03/01/2013 18:04

Last summer we stayed at the Portishead Travelodge. I booked a family room - 2 adults, 2 children. And then all 5 of us stayed in the room. They didn't mind - in fact they offered us more pillows and sheets.

Dh and I had the bed, dd had the sofa bed, and ds1 and ds2 slept on rollmats in sleeping bags (which I'd brought with us!).

Breakfast wasn't provided (and if there was a cafe you'd have to pay per person anyway) so I didn't feel I was cheating Travelodge.

Dcs were 10, 7, and 4.

FairyChristmas · 03/01/2013 18:58

We stay in Premier Inns, there are 5 of us.

2 in the double bed, 1 on the sofa bed and 2 on the floor (kids very happy to do this!) - it's never been a problem with the hotel (and we pay for 2 adults for breakfast, means the 2 elder DC's have breakfast for free but DD also gets hers for free - again, no-one has ever said anything or we would pay!).

Premier have just released a whole load of their £19 nights which is fantastic value, even with breakfast it is under £50.

pingu2209 · 03/01/2013 19:02

AHHHHHHHHHH I am a family of 5 and the whole family rooms only for 4 thing drives me mad. It is a nightmare.

Please pass on the website addresses you thought were so great. I really struggle.

Oodhousekeeping · 03/01/2013 19:59

We are currently 5 & expecting dc4. We've stayed at travelodges but going to be more difficult with dd3 wanting her own room.
I seem to come out worse on sleeping arrangements as dd1/2 wouldn't share with dh ( teens/step dad) and I'm bf dd3 and will be bf dc4 so even if dd3 doesn't need me at night dc4 will. Where as dh would have a room on his own or with dd3!
Luckily we aren't planning on going far for a while!

Scholes34 · 03/01/2013 20:16

We've only ourselves to blame. Having three children (or more) is obviously such a freakish thing to do and so difficult for many hotels and any attraction offering a "family ticket" to accommodate.

I've booked as four and turned up with a travel cot and not had a problem.
I've also called the hotel directly and asked and they've had no problem with one extra kid.
We did adjoining rooms one time and propped the door between the rooms open and that worked fine too.
