Fancied AH in Gold Blend ad (he is a couple of years younger than me), then didn't at first realise it was him as Giles. (Giles' record collection was similar to mine, so Spike would have approved of it)

OMWF - about the most perfect hour of TV ever made.

JakeBullet · 05/01/2013 15:23

Bunnies bunnies it must be bunnies.....or maybe midgets.Grin Grin

TwllBach · 05/01/2013 19:49

They got
The mustard
Ooooooooouuuuut!

Sometimes I find myself singing the songs to myself I my car Grin

I' just got to the end of the episode where Giles and Ethan summon the thingy of aygon (sp?) only to discover that I'm missin the next two disks! I've missed the episodes where angel and Buffy get it on and then he runs bad

But I am now watching Passion.

I remember watching it for the first time when it was aired on BBC2. My parents had gone to the supermarket and I was on my own. It was dark outside and I watched the last half hour or so standing in the middle of the living room because I was far too tense to sit down Grin

Jenny is just about to start running round the school

EmpressOfThePuddle · 05/01/2013 20:10

Passion.

Oh God, that's the one that really stays with me so far....

When Angelus lays the trail for Giles & he's going up the stairs, looking so happy. I was digging my nails into my hands so hard I had marks.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 05/01/2013 20:27

I think I remember Joss Whedon saying that he killed Jenny off specifically to show that no one was safe.

EmpressOfThePuddle · 05/01/2013 20:39

Yep, that worked. And then they have the picture of Giles finding the rose in the series 3 intro.
All that is partly why the Buffy annual seemed so weird. On no level is Passion for kids!

TwllBach · 05/01/2013 20:39

It was never one of those shows that left the characters unharmed. Everybody suffered and key people died - that's part of what makes it brilliant. A bit like ER Grin

EmpressOfThePuddle · 05/01/2013 20:58

And you get to know the characters so well that you suffer with them!

JakeBullet · 05/01/2013 21:04

I cried buckets when Tara died....especially after the happy "Once More With Feeling" episode where she sings about her love for Willow.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 05/01/2013 21:14

I've just seen Amber Benson (Tara) in an episode of Supernatural playing a vampire called Lenore Grin

EmpressOfThePuddle · 05/01/2013 22:35

Me too Sad

Having watched it from the start now and got to really like Oz, though, I'm already feeling sorry for him in the knowledge that he's going to lose Willow for a second time. I didn't like the sudden Xander/Willow pairing, I know they're paving the way for Cordelia leaving but I feel really sorry for her especially.

kittensarecute · 05/01/2013 23:49

Am currently rewatching season 6 for the first time in ages. So awesome!

EmpressOfThePuddle · 06/01/2013 01:47

just watched The Prom.
'I'm going to give you all a nice, fun, normal evening if I have to kill every person on the face of the earth to do it.'

Perfect.

Tryharder · 06/01/2013 01:59

Ok. I have Lovefilm and want to watch Buffy. But I dislike violence in films/tv. For reference, I have seen the Vampire Diaries series and although I enjoyed them, I found them a bit too gory. Is Buffy less gory or on a par? Sorry to be a bit of a wuss but grateful if someone can advise before I start watching!

TwllBach · 06/01/2013 08:31

Most kf the violence is a bit power rangers IYSWIM? Bearing in mind that most if the time she's killing vampires, so it's largely a stake in the heart followed by a cloud of dust. That's not to say that there isn't a fair few bits of blood and the odd neck breaking here and there!

Remember, though, that it was aired before the watershed so I would say you would be ok. I've not seen the vampire diaries though... I've watched an episode of true blood and would say it was much less violent than that if that helps?

EmpressOfThePuddle · 06/01/2013 09:30

The pre-watershed episodes were censored. The full episodes usually had a 15 rating and were shown later.

It's not that graphic - not in series 1-3 anyway, can't remember how graphic it gets after that. But they don't need to be graphic because they can get all the violence and pain across simply through atmosphere and the look on someone's face.

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 06/01/2013 09:31

In fact the Pink Power Ranger was Buffy stunt double, I believe.

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 06/01/2013 09:37

I'm a total wuss too when it comes to gore and violence, but am an avid Buffy fan. It has a few moments here and there, and some episodes are a bit scary on first watch (Puppet Show creeped me out on first viewing!) but overall it is very tame compared to modern shows of a similar type.

I bought DH the Supernatural box set for Christmas and we're currently working our way through it. I'd say it is much more gory/violent than Buffy, even though they're both rated 15.

EmpressOfThePuddle · 10/01/2013 19:01

Well, I was a bit doubtful about season 4 at first. But I've just watched Hush.

Enough said really.

Questions though....

Why didn't the Initiative turn up on Graduation Day? All I can think of is that they're either brand new (which doesn't seem right) or their intelligence was too crap for them to know it was happening (which doesn't really seem right either, surely they'd have picked up on there being something odd about Mayor Wilkins).

And also wrt Graduation Day, I loved Jonathan's speech about Buffy as Class Protector but when they all know what Sunnydale's mortality rate is like...

WHY ARE ANY OF THEM STILL THERE??????????

juneybean · 10/01/2013 19:35

interesting thought, how did they build the initiative so quickly

FrankellyMyDearIDontGiveADamn · 10/01/2013 19:41

I'm just rewatching The Freshman. I'd forgotten how great the soundtrack to the show is Grin!

Favourite quote so far: "Are we gonna fight or is this gonna be a monster sarcasm rally?"

EmpressOfThePuddle · 10/01/2013 21:53

Grin I'm trying to decide now whether I can be bothered to start watching Angel in tandem.

I'm starting to think it might be worth it. Things like casual references to Spike as William the Bloody which I odn't remember having been discussed previously on Buffy so is it something she found out from Angel? And Buffy mentioning having seen him in LA.

MarmaladeSkies · 10/01/2013 21:57

I collected my Buffy Boxset yesterday. I watched Hush last night.I can't decide if I should start from S1 E1 and work my way through,or watch all my favourite episodes first. There's no Spike in S1 after all.

TwllBach · 10/01/2013 22:30

Empress I'm rewatching season two, which is when spike is first introduced to Buffy and I'm pretty certain I remember Giles reading about spike from a book "William the bloody" AKA spike, for his predilection for torturig people to death with railroad spikes.

sashh · 11/01/2013 06:30

Right

Enough is enough.

We need to picket Joss Wheden for a new series.

How about Willow has found a new love, they use magic to create a baby that is genetically 50/50 theirs, no sperm donors or anything like that. That has to be potential for something spooky happening.

Xander will also have a new partner and a child/children.

Cue a whole new generation.
