to want a tumble dryer?

My DH and I try really hard to be energy efficient, turning off lights, turn thermostat down etc. At the moment we dry the washing over airers including a heated one.
But my laundry drying pile is never ending, DH is a nurse so needs clean uniform each shift and we use cloth nappies....really starting to want a tumble dryer. AIBU to want one for a slightly easier life? Thinking about January sales...

The new ones don't emit any steam, ours is in the futility room which has only internal walls.

5mad when do they start washing up? Give me hope- we have no dishwasher either..

saccro what features do I look for for that then?

QueenofPlaids · 26/12/2012 20:47

YANBU I grew up with one, DP's parents never had one. We leave too early / get home too late to hang washing outdoors except for maybe 3 months of the year (assuming it's dry).

The older type are pretty inefficient. We have a category A rated condenser and it's brilliant. We still use the line or an indoor airer when we can and obviously for stuff that can't be tumble dried, but the idea of having sheets and towels littering the house causing condensation in the winter fills me with great horror!

My eldest three can all wah up, they are 13, 10 and just 8. My eldest can cook as well and the 10 and 8 yr olds help with food prep and can cook with supervision (the eldest can just get on with cooking a meal and doesn't need supervision) but my five have all helped around the house in an age appropriate level from toddler age, the rule in this house is 'we all make the mess, so we all help clean it up' plus I have four boys and I am not raising them to be men that expect women to wait on them!

They do help as in dirty clothes in right place, bring plates to kitchen after dinner , tidy toys etc but can't actually reach the sink yet..

Only 5,4,2&1 though so I think I may be in for a few more years yet!

I want to reach the parental holy grail of having a cup of tea made for me Grin

YANBU I have always had and used a drier, I despise washing around the house and it is such a time saver.I put a full wash on at 7pm, it is now in the dryer and all bar 4 shirts and 2 jumpers which are on an airer in the utility room will be back in drawers and cupboards before I go to bed tonight. Nothing better than warm, soft clothes fresh out of the dryer.

I have one for sale. Moving to the US in Jan and need to get rid off it. Message me if you are interested. Going cheap.

I have just ordered one it arrives on Sunday Grin

We've been in this house for 3 winters. The first 2 winters I continued to line-dry everything and even on the coldest days it dried. This year it has rained constantly, and even when it isn't actively raining, the air is so wet that the washing comes in wetter than it went out.

I have just given in and bought a tumble dryer :(

Onezerozero · 28/12/2012 10:32

My tumble dryer is across the road in my garage which is kind of annoying. I still appreciate it though.
