Friend of mine just lined up about twelve very pricey items her dh bought for her. And uploaded a pic onto Facebook, with the caption 'thank you my darling hubs'.' Seriously, why would you do that? I got lots of lovely things, but won't be uploading photos of them onto social media. Am I being a Scrooge?

I totally agree MrsDevere. It smacks of how dare the proles enjoy Christmas?

LaCiccolina · 25/12/2012 20:51

Mrs mn is the same as fb just no photos or names oractual connections, the fakery /narcissism / snobbery/ one upmanship / joneses / Chav haters etc all live here too.

When ur mate reads fb but doesn't post what she's thinking, well here they just do. Every, little, thought. Mostly it's all blooming funny or just mad! Otherwise it's trolls.

DizzyHoneyBee · 25/12/2012 20:54

Hopefully they will have good house insurance. Somebody I used to know posted on FB about a fantastic holiday they were going on the following week, unfortunately they had all and sundry on their "friends" and somebody took advantage of their absence.

How long before insurers refuse to pay out if you have posted pics of expensive items/holiday dates on FB?

crashdoll · 25/12/2012 20:56

I totally agree MrsDevere. It smacks of how dare the proles enjoy Christmas?

Sorry what do the 'proles' have to do with it? Why does everything have to be a class war on here?

Piemother · 25/12/2012 20:56

Jugs - I got a a hand mixer and a flour shaker - I may post those. I was as delighted as if is been given something wanky Grin

ihavenonameonhere · 25/12/2012 20:58

I love seeing peoples pics, facebook is all about being a bit nosey and so I like to look at ppls pressies, trees, tables etc at this time of year

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2012 21:00

I don't mind photos of people on FB doing interesting stuff, but as I say the world of 13 year olds on FB is very strange indeed and I only have that to look at. They give each other marks out of 10 for looks and personality. Sad

Lizzylou · 25/12/2012 21:02

Loads of people on my fb have done this today, not something that bothers me have to say. Get annoyed with all the competitive gifting, but understand why in a lot of cases and it is Not.a class thing
It's odd that when I left work for holidays people were asking me what I was having for Christmas, they were getting $100s worth. I am 40 next year, work ft and can buy what I need. I am more confused when adults act like kids ay Christmas.

pictish · 25/12/2012 21:05

I don't mind it other than it all being a bit samey.
I don't think it's always boasting - it's often just sharing the good times.

LaLaGabby · 25/12/2012 21:06

DizzyHoneyBee, your story sounds like it's made up... how did they know that the burglars found out about the holiday from Facebook??

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2012 21:06

I wish when the 13 year olds are taking those photos in the mirror with their arm outstretched and the phone in their hand that they would clean the mirror first. That annoys me.

Arisbottle · 25/12/2012 21:06

Trees decorated nicely with lots of beautifully wrapped presents can make a nice twinkly picture .

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 25/12/2012 21:07

YANBU. My BIL is a nice guy but is a righty one for doing this kind of thing. When he got married we had months of updates about his bespoke designer suit, 5 star honeymoon hotel & Michelin starred restaurant he was booking for one night.

Meanwhile my SIL (who is actually the main breadwinner) got her vintage frock from eBay!

I'm always a bit Shock at coupes who spend a fortune on each other at Christmas. We usually spend £40-£70 which is plenty for a few nice gifts.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/12/2012 21:09

I do not live near my family, I always take a photo of the kids opening the gifts from them and put them on facebook tagged with their name, but the lovely things DH got did not make it on facebook, and I thanked him personally :)

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 25/12/2012 21:10

personally as in turned to him, not thanking him on facebook lol

maxmillie · 25/12/2012 21:14

Sparkling I agree with you. It's all about the kids innit?

Actually, joking aside, I am getting sick of adults going on about what they want/what they got/how much their partner spent etc - it's pathetic.

cantspel · 25/12/2012 21:17

I have loved seeing all my friends christmas trees and piles of wrapped presents followed by the morning after photo after the kids had attacked it all.
I am the nosey type and like to see what everyone has got or the set diner table or their cat wearing a santa hat. I have loved the photos of the kids in their christmas oneies and the santa sacks and even the odd one of some random grandparent asleep after diner.
You know it is not a law that you have to have facebook and could could always delete your acccount if it pisses you off so much that you have to spend your christmas getting arsey about how other people share their chrtistmas.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2012 21:17

I think so max, I don't see the need for DH and I to swap gifts at Christmas. But that's just me.

kennyp · 25/12/2012 21:21

My son aged 8 gave me a jimmy kimmel inspired present ... An onion. Best present. Youtube jimmy kimmel christmas presents. Best present and surely worthy of a fb braggggggggggggg.

Fuck 'em. Its nearly time for the royle family xxxxx

My daughter gave me a pebble with a blue glittery sticker in it. I put a photo of that on faceache...

MurderOfGoths · 25/12/2012 21:36

Agree with MrsDV

If it makes people happy and doesn't harm anyone else then who the fuck cares? Really?

"You know it is not a law that you have to have facebook and could could always delete your acccount if it pisses you off so much that you have to spend your christmas getting arsey about how other people share their chrtistmas."

Abso-fucking-lutely.

autumnlights12 · 25/12/2012 21:36

Oh, I don't think it's snobby. I think they're showing off. It's funny. Would hate Facebook to be boring! Hell, I show off myself. I just can't help it sometimes. I've been on holiday and facebooked a photo of the beach at the bottom of our villa. I couldn't help doing it! Mark Zuckerburg made me!
