To think piercing babies ears is horrible?

2 acquaintances have recently had their under 1 dd's ears pierced.
I can't see why someone would do this, not just due to being needlessly painful for a baby who doesn't understand, but also the likelyhood of a little girl catching earrings while playing, or pulling them out and them being a choking risk.

Unless theres some reason i've missed behind doing it so young?

My 9 year old recently has hers done - she really wanted them.

She asked - why didn't you get them done when I was a tiny baby as then I wouldn't remember the pain - friend in her class told her it was done before she even remembered.

I personally wouldn't, but each to their own.

Different horses for different courses. I think depriving a child of sugar is pretty cruel and miserable. I don't care a lot though, why care about people you don't like online and would like even less in RL?

My grandma did a DIY version when she was a teenager in the 1920s (copying some film star).

Aparently the darning needle and cork trick wasn't a very good idea and got stuck until her dad pulled it out (and gave her an earful as it not a 'respectable' thing for a young gel to do in those days). That story put me off for a long time!
