So everyone else in the office seems to have been givens cds , books, chocolates, opened mine to find a tin of T bags . I know this probably sounds really ungrateful and I did try not to laugh. Even the tin they are in is bloody awful as well ; 0 ( Am I being horrid/ precious/nasty ??

Williamson is posh - I have one of the elephant tea tins and I rather like it. I'd think it was quite a reasonable secret santa - it's hardly own brand red label teabags.

They sell quite well on eBay though, so that could be an option.

Then again, I did receive a bottle of lube this year for secret santa (from a good friend!!)

GrendelsMum · 21/12/2012 18:52

I would have been well chuffed with the posh tea. I think that was probably meant very kindly from the bloke that you see when you're both making tea.

Just shows that Secret Santa is a bit of a stupid idea, really, doesn't it? Everyone's disappointed - the person getting the present and the person who chose it and knows it wasn't appreciated.

looks like a lovely present. i've 2 secret santa openings tomorrow with different circles and hope no one is so ungracious as to skip straight off and complain about what rubbish presents i've got them :(

HellonHeels · 21/12/2012 18:58

I love the elephant tea tins. If that's what you got, YABVU. A box of PG Tips and you might have a point.

BehindLockNumberNine · 21/12/2012 19:12

I think the posh tea is a nice Secret Santa gift. A few years ago I received a lovely bag of posh fresh coffee as my SS gift. Was perfect as only a few weeks previously we had discussed coffee and I mentioned I was partial to proper coffee and preferred it to instant. Someone had obviously been paying attention and that touched me Xmas Smile

My SS present for this year is still at work, I have been off with that flu bug thing and they did the SS yesterday (last day of term).

This year I 'drew' a TA who is very much into arts and drawing as the person to buy for so with my £5 budget I bought her a nice hard-bound small sketch book and some pencils. She once mentioned she does not read on the tube / train / bus (does not have a car and uses public transport exclusively) but prefers to sketch instead. So I hope she liked it Xmas Smile

The worst I've ever seen was a few years ago when my colleague was given a small blue ceramic tealight holder...must have cost them 99p at the most. And they didn't even give her any fucking candles !

HibernHoHoHoCaledonian · 21/12/2012 20:47

This year I got a packet of 2 Velcro garden ties. I don't garden, never have and never will.

Enfyshedd · 21/12/2012 22:39

My SS present one year was a firework - a f firework in the office. I nearly screamed when I opened it and it scared me witless. Growing up a fireman's daughter, I have a "healthy" attitude to incenduries and a firework which has been on the window ledge near the heater is not something I like opening up on my lap.

The manager found out who it was and apparently had a word about inappropriate presents. A couple of the other girls clubbed together and got me a little lipgloss set from Boots as a consellation as there was no way I was going to take that firework home on the train.

Theicingontop · 21/12/2012 22:41

I got a multi-pack of walker's crisps and apparently it was hilarious! I felt like a right humbug, being grumpy about it. The limit was £10 and the gift I gave was a gorgeous necklace on sale from £30 down to £9.99. People really should note whether the SS is joke-gifts or not Envy

Groovee · 21/12/2012 22:44

I once got a box of basmati rice

tarantula · 21/12/2012 23:03

I once got a crappy voice changer megaphone. Talk about walk into a shop and grab the first thing you see, and this was from a bloke I had worked with for years so he knew full well that I hate crap like that but cba to actually go and buy anything decent as, well, he's a bloke, innit (his words not mine, the term I used was fuckwitted arsehole).
I'd have loved the tea instead.

simplesusan · 21/12/2012 23:52

I am howling at some of these, especially the firework.

DuddlePuck · 22/12/2012 00:55

:( I did a SS in a place I hadn't worked very long, didn't really know the person I got given and was stuck for time and inspiration, so gave her a pretty dull gift that was exactly in the £2 price range.

Having seen all the others I am very dubious about whether people stuck to the limit and pretty embarrassed about the gift I gave. Mine was dead cute: sweets and a little toy, from someone who didn't know me either. It's fun with good friends or colleagues you know well, but a bloody minefield otherwise.

The tea sounds like they've made a real effort to think of what you might like. I'd put it in the office at work and comment on how thoughtful it was. Plus, you've got a special place to store your tea now...

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 22/12/2012 01:03

I think the teabags are a nice gift.

You on the other hand sound a bit horrible and ungrateful.

giraffesCantFlyLikeReindeer · 22/12/2012 01:07

I just got tea bags as a present from a friend - along with some other stuff. It is better than some of her usual presents so I was quite happy!

janji · 22/12/2012 01:08

I got some tacky light up tent pegs from the 99p shop (the spend was supposed to be £5) & I don't even go camping!!

chickensarmpit · 22/12/2012 01:12

I have been ill so i haven't been able to get out to sort DH's secret santa. He come home today and told me he'd sorted it, he's handed over a 6 pack of beer wrapped up in a black binbag. To a woman! Xmas Confused

AbandonHopeAllYe · 22/12/2012 02:30

yabu, its a nice present with a little thought put into it. Don't be ungrateful!

Toomuchturkeyatendofthedinner · 22/12/2012 03:25

No, nice williamsons tea in a box from someone who knows you drink tea is NOT a "crap" SS present at all, could have been much much worse, as we can see from this thread! Feel sad Xmas Sad for the chap who thought about you, esp as you were ungrateful enough to let your reaction show on your face.

Startail · 22/12/2012 03:33

my quiz prize was a chair shaped plastic egg cup.

I hate boiled eggs.

tinyshinyanddon · 22/12/2012 03:56

One place I worked did a really vicious secret santa which I always dreaded but never got anything too hurtful. One year an older lady who wore a lot of makeup got a bag of poltroons and a trowel. It still makes me sad to think of that.

tinyshinyanddon · 22/12/2012 03:57

P o l y f i l l a. Wft are poltroons?

BobbysBeardOfWonder · 22/12/2012 04:46

YABU. Williamson tea is very nice, not crap at all Hmm
