Xmas Blush x a million!

Shoot me again! I'm in a masochistic mood LOL

Hell at work..... hell at home (well OK not hell but busy doesn't really given any sense of the frantic diary checking and organising of everyone that is going on!).
Haven't even got the tree up....

and DD2 has a sleep over tomorrow Xmas Shock

Sweetest ever mate and DD2 never gets sleepovers as shes so busy so I couldn't really say no...

Mate eats nothing.... thin air.... Her mum has suggested she would probably eat sausage and mash. But I've no idea how i'm going to actually buy spuds and make mash in the next 24hrs. So I'm going to do something I've never ever done before and BUY the mash .... I feel soooo guilty!

(we do it real cooking too honest, its just it's all ready done at this time of year from the freezer)

Its a down hill slope to full on neglect of maternal duties isn't it- I can hear my mother saying so..... Mind you that is the same mother that has kept me interestingly employed for the last 5 days!

I switched to the dark side about 2 months ago. Can't see me ever going back to be honest. It's so convenient and tbh only has the same ingredients that I'd put in mine ( potatoes, butter, salt, pepper).

Hope you find some lovely things to do with the time that you've saved.

Xmas Smile

Instant mash = YABVU

M&S ready made mash = YANBU

DragonMamma · 21/12/2012 14:05

Do whatever suits you, it wouldn't be much more hassle to buy some spuds and do your own but it'll be ok, I'm sure

glentherednosedbattleostrich · 21/12/2012 14:12

DH and DD love my mash, I see no reason to tell them that it is specially made for them by M&S Xmas Grin

I have some stashed at the back of the fridge (DH doesn't look beyond the milk and sandwich goods)

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 21/12/2012 14:17

What's wrong with Smash? It's dehydrated potato+powdered milk. There's more vit C in it than regular potatoes, and it is actually made from real food.

If you'd said Pot Noodle, that would be U due to complete lack of nutrirional value. Instant mash is just dried regular mash Xmas Wink

NothingIsAsBadAsItSeems · 21/12/2012 14:17

If it's Smash then YABU I wouldn't eat it as a kid and still don't

Some nice ready made proper mash then YANBU Xmas Smile

ShakySingsMerryXmasEveryone · 21/12/2012 14:19

Aunt Bessie's frozen mash is fabulous.

Welcome to the dark side Xmas Grin

RobotLover68 · 21/12/2012 14:20

Buy proper mash not Smash - Aunt Bessie's do a frozen one too - once heated add a little extra butter and its perfect

Icelollycraving · 21/12/2012 14:21

Sometimes life is too busy to make mash

MarcelineTheVampireQueen · 21/12/2012 14:22

The Tesco one is the nicest thing I have EVER eaten, I get it once a week with a nice steak and a good sauce. Best thing in the world! YADNBU

SmallIWantForXmasIsA6ft2Dwarf · 21/12/2012 14:27

Why are you embarassed? It's just mash, no-one will die I hope.

Buy it and enjoy it guilt free. Grin

clippityclop · 21/12/2012 14:29

Get thee to M&S or Tesco, don't apologise for dishing up pre-prepared and enjoy the time with the kids. On the other hand isn't it going to be mad busy in the shops? Might be just as quick to do them jacket spuds with the sausages and let them mash them themselves!!

BiddyPop · 21/12/2012 14:33

Occasionally, we all have to say "Life is too short to stuff a mushroom" (even though I quite like stuffed mushrooms).

Knowing that you will have something that DC's friend will eat, and also allowing a sleepover at this very hectic time, will make you the hero in DC, the friend, and Friend's DM's eyes. Hide the wrappings if you are truly concerned - but sometimes you gotta "not sweat the small stuff".

Enjoy!!

Theas18 · 21/12/2012 14:33

Thanks all!

clippity I've got to brave chuffin town today to go to DD2 service ... there is a small tesco sainsbury and waitrose within spitting distance of the cathedral fortunately . Think I'll buy " ordinary" sausages too.... she probabl wont appreciate the linconshire ones or cumberlands that I have in the freezer.

We are having german market bratwurst for tea as the market is off home on sunday! Then I shall collapse!

(We are on an "emptying the freezer" fortnight - DH was insistant on it to clear space, but has not taken anything out, left me to organise meals of 4 different things for 4 people that kinda go together in any way, and the 2 nights he was "on duty" while I had work events, he took DD to McD's last night and was planning a takeaway tonight!!)

Theas18 · 21/12/2012 14:34

The only other think I've seen her eat here is a half jacket spud with grated cheese!

Can't get my head round kids that just don't eat as mine don't stop ..

Atthewelles · 21/12/2012 14:35

Tesco mash is fine and contains the same ingredients as home made mash.

clippityclop · 21/12/2012 14:40

Go shopping before the service then you'll relax and enjoy it more! Happy Christmas!

whatagreatname · 21/12/2012 14:43

Any mash will be fine

Couldn't help but think in the time it took to write your OP you could have made some mash! Smile

RedToothbrush · 21/12/2012 14:46

I confess to secretly having a liking for Smash. Not had it in years, but I used to love the stuff. Its not mashed potato though. Its different but nowt wrong with that.

SantaWearsGreen · 21/12/2012 14:46

Just as long as it isn't smash.. that shit is frigging horrible, nothing mashy about it, gross.

FellatioNelson · 21/12/2012 14:50

I am a huge advocate of home cooking, fresh is best, etc, but I LOVE Aunt Bessie's frozen mash. You just cannot make your own any better IMHO.

And for any doubters it contains only potatoes, milk/cream, butter, salt, pepper. That is it. You mustn't over microwave it as it can dry out easily, and I usually add some extra butter/milk halfway through, just to keep it from going dry, but once you get the hang of it there is NO going back.

I notice some other supermarket brands have some e numbers and thickeners and additives though, so I avoid those.

TheKnightsWhoSayNi · 21/12/2012 14:55

YABU - Instant mash is minging. There are some things I can do instant. Potato products are not among them.

I was in a shop a while ago when someone came in behind me and asked the shop keeper:

"'Ave you go' any frozen roasties? My son's comin' over for dinner an' he loves roasties."
"No sorry," said the shop keeper. "We've only got fresh potatos."
"Ah, no," she said. "I don' know wha' to do with those. He'll 'ave to go without."

I thought - you don't know what to do with a fresh potato? What is the world coming to.

StripeyBear · 21/12/2012 15:02

Why haven't you got any homemade frozen mash though already stashed in the freezer?

Severe lack of planning methinks ;-)

BiddyPop · 21/12/2012 15:15

Frozen HM mash is the work of the devil - it gets so wet and sodden!! No this is 1 time when shop bought beats HM (I don't even top shepherd's pies anymore if they will be frozen).
