to think it doesn't matter if an OP or poster isn't genuine??

takataka · 19/12/2012 16:50

was just enjoying the thread about the lady who was too beautiful...and it was deleted because the OP wasn't genuine?

genuine 'what'??? Confused

she (or he) was genuinely a person...do we care if the problem is real or made up? there was no harm to the thread, except people being a bit 'orrible; but then people are more horrid on actual 'genuine' threads which are left standing...

and all them sharon threads....sharon got banned from the pub didnt she? (metaphorically speaking)

stuffez but but how can MNHQ determine who i genuine in those types of cases...they only have email addresses??? don't they??

takataka · 19/12/2012 17:15

OK...I suppose my question is...how does MNHQ determine if someone is making stuff up??? and if it is harmless (like lovely sharon, and beautiful beauty) why does it matter...

(only skim read replies...back in a minute

< slips Helen some gin and a mince pie >

what would be great, Helllllen (did I say how lovely you were looking today, your hair is positively swishy ...) is if you tell us what name they had been previously banned under

that would be fucking ace very useful

howzaboutit ? < (mmm, your perfume is luvverly, what do you use again ?..)

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 19/12/2012 17:17

No MNHQ are in your mind

Erm, that would be strictly against protocol, AF. but wedding dresses might figure

GreenyEyes · 19/12/2012 17:18

I'll be honest, in RL I do tend to try and avoid the fantasists and weirdos, same applies to on here.

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 19/12/2012 17:19

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet

You do realise (assuming you have banned her again) that she has rejoined and is carrying on posting on her Sarah Palin thread.

DorsetKnobwithJingleBellsOn · 19/12/2012 17:20

And on here.

forbiddenfruit85 · 19/12/2012 17:21

Hmm

I'd like to know how they determine this too.

If you started a thread saying how beautiful/rich you are then ... You can all have a joke, it's probably not real and no one gets hurt.

Threads with made up abuse and violence are different. Invested time and emotion.

Has there been threads of people asking for money? And have people actually given the OP money before?

HECTheHallsWithRowsAndFolly · 19/12/2012 17:21

because then you get into MNHQ having to decide which fake threads are ok and which are not.

And that's never going to end well.

Better to have a blanket ban on it.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 19/12/2012 17:22

Wot the rest have said, it does matter especially when people are putting their hands in their pockets or their hearts on their sleeves when they are talking to them.

There's at least one regular whose hands aren't hairy from living under a bridge IYSWIM.

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 19/12/2012 17:24

The problem is that if MNHQ think they are lying, how do they decide whether its offensive or not.

Also the 'too beautiful' thread was potentially harmful. To the person whose photo she was using.

amillionyears · 19/12/2012 17:24

how many trolls would you like op?

Moominsarescary · 19/12/2012 17:25

I think it depends on the thread

HECTheHallsWithRowsAndFolly · 19/12/2012 17:26

sorry, that was to taka.

Yes, forbidden. There have been people who have done very well out of mners. There was one who used to pop up every year with tales of woe. Used to be my cue to fetch down the christmas lights Wink

And they're not the only one. There have been many times.

There have been many genuine people too, who have been helped so much in their hour of need. But it's so awful to now read something and your first thought be 'oh yeah...' when it used to be 'how can I help'

And that's the fault of the piss takers and begging bowl lot.

And I'll never forget the mner who gave so much of herself emotionally and it turned out the person was a total freak who was making it all up. She'd even gone to meet this woman to try to help her! It affected her so badly.

HoFlippinHo · 19/12/2012 17:27

I got badly hurt years ago with a thread involving a troll who claimed to be a woman (in Japan I think) with young dc who was trying to escape her violent husband. I found it really messed with my head for a long time afterwards.

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 19/12/2012 17:27

DorsetKnobwithJingleBellsOn

Missed that one.

LadyBeagleBaublesandBells · 19/12/2012 17:27

I wonder who this girl who's pictures the OP exposed all over the internet is.
I agreed she was beautiful but that I didn't believe it was the Op.
It just brought into my mind someone , somewhere, probably a sleazy bloke, posting a picture of a stranger, and the recipient hasn't a clue.
So, IMO, good decision, MN.

woopdiedoo · 19/12/2012 17:27

I'm assuming this was the poster who bombarded AIBU with mnhq will never ban me type posts. They harped on about ip addresses so maybe a troll in the know!

woopdiedoo · 19/12/2012 17:28

I think the photos were taken from somebody's Facebook page, probably public profile pictures.

HazeltheMcWitch · 19/12/2012 17:28

Wedding dresses, huh?
Still none the wiser. Must try to spend more time on here so that I can build me up one of them-there spreadsheets.

forbiddenfruit85 · 19/12/2012 17:28

Does anyone want to hear my tale of woe ...

I have cold feet. I'm a small person.

The solution to my problem would be Laboutins - help me with the warmth and height.

I will send you all my PayPal account details. Thanks in advance x

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 19/12/2012 17:28

Then the troll in chat a few weeks ago that claimed to have 7 kids and she had just found out one had cancer.

Thankfully MNHQ caught it really quickly. Some many people here are effected by this type of thing.

A troll, is a troll, is a troll.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 19/12/2012 17:31

ah, wedding dresses < taps side of nose >

KaraStarbuckThrace · 19/12/2012 17:32

Hoflippinho - yes, I got sucked in by the Japan one two. Luckily someone kindly pm'd me to warn me!
It is frustrating but I can see why MN do delete these types of threads.
