to hate adult 'onesies'

They just look like over grown babies in them. Where are you supposed to wear these things? I thought they were just for sleeping in (still annoying though) but they are starting to make them look like clothes you would wear outside (www.onepiece.co.uk). Even the ones for children just look really odd. This may seem like a stupid question but I can't work out how would you use the toilet when your wearing them? They are selling them in Next now and they just look like costumes. Please tell me I'm not the only one who can't stand them.

Well the matalan instore advertising would have you believe that its perfectly normal for the whole (2+2 traditional mum dad, boy and girl) to go skipping in the woods in them Hmm

MrsLyman · 19/12/2012 08:30

YANBU they are awful, I feel a bit creeped out when I walk past them in shops.

Southeastdweller · 19/12/2012 13:36

I suppose they're warm and comfy but personally I'd rather put on more clothes or the heating on. I certainly have no need for one now, as well as the tit factor.

Each to their own, innit.

Beksybob · 19/12/2012 13:52

How are they any more comfortable than just wearing, say, trakkie pants and a hoodie (or similar comfortable but not-for-outside wear)? And isn't is a PITA to strip off to go to the loo? And cold?

PinkSnow · 19/12/2012 13:55

Like an absolute bellend I thought it would be a good idea to pack a onesie in my labour bag. What a BAD idea that was post labour, why, why, WHYYYY

boomting · 19/12/2012 14:00

I've known people wear them as fancy dress on a night out, I've seen people wandering around Sainsburys in them, and I've seen someone on the ferry at Dover-Calais wearing one.

There is a time and a place for them!

FBworry · 19/12/2012 14:03

They are ridiculous!

My DH is desperate for one.

I tell him its a choice between owning a onesie or sex life.

Luckily the house is still an adult-onesie free zone.

gordyslovesheep · 19/12/2012 14:17

My dd1 made me buy one in Primark - I love it - it's warm and snuggly - I would NEVER wear outside though!

Norfolkbumpkin · 19/12/2012 14:44

I predict that they will be the garment of choice instead of pyjamas on the school run next yearGrin

SantaWearsGreen · 19/12/2012 15:48

I don't want to see people wearing them outside because past about a year old nobody should.. They are pyjamas-nightwear and should be for just that. However indoors they are fair game. I think they're A) amusing and B) look snuggly..Although one thing is it must be flaming annoying going to the loo in it.

I bought DH one for Christmas (but he found it and decided to wear it tskk) He looks hilarious, I suspect he's going to get me one as well. They do look nice and warm, fab for this weather.

Ohh I did see Strictly's Robin in a fair isle one, it actually didn't look bad.. only person that i've seen in one that I can take seriously though.

elizaregina · 19/12/2012 18:23

I am sure they serve a fantastic purpose - you could really shave off heating costs while wearing them round the house - but its a catagorical fact:

No one - absoluty no one looks good in them - rather like the Olympic Torch Tracksuits .......hideous....

gordyslovesheep · 19/12/2012 18:28

I am at home watching TV, reading and drinking wine - I don't really care what I look like!

Pandemoniaa · 19/12/2012 18:33

YANBU. They are an abomination. Since when did adults feel the need to spend most of their lives in their pyjamas anyway? They make shell suits look like haut couture.

I sometimes wear my onesie under my slanket.

Marzipanface · 19/12/2012 20:22

I don't like them. I don't know why as they are no different really from a boilersuit/trackies, and personally I think people should wear whatever they want, but I draw the line at animal suits with ears on. It's the same with kids wearing fancy dress costumes as normal wear. Something about it just irritates me but again, I think kids should wear whatever they like.

I totally understand why people wear onesies if they are really comfortable and relaxing. My thing is pjs. I have many.

Marzipanface · 19/12/2012 20:26

Oh hang on...

The onepiece tracksuit type things are less offensive than those bloody Kigu things.

www.kigs.co.uk/18-shop?gclid=COHWmsqmp7QCFXHLtAod3jQAXQ

I could be persuaded to hang out in the house in a loose jumpsuit if I didn't look like a massive weeble, but the animal things are just weird.

Shakey1500 · 19/12/2012 20:33

If I don't get one for Christmas, I'm buying myself a nightime one afterwards. I bloody freeze in bed and don't give a stuff what I look like Grin

singledadof2 · 19/12/2012 21:05

Er....they've been out over here for a few years now, mostly as animal onsies, winnie the pooh, tiger, eyore etc. I know loads of adults who have them. Aged 20 to in their 50's.

WafflesandWhippedCream · 19/12/2012 21:10

I don't really get them myself.

Are they supposed to be worn as pyjamas? I can't imagine wanting to sleep cocooned in cheapo polyester fleece. Doesn't it make you feel all sweaty, and doesn't the zip chafe if you are wearing it next to your skin?

Or are you supposed to wear them over your pyjamas? If so, surely that would be far too hot to sleep in? If you're that cold at night, what's wrong with a hot water bottle or an extra blanket or two on the bed.

Or are you just supposed to wear them for lounging around the house? If so, how much lounging do people do? Confused. Why don't they just wear normal clothes?

But my biggest source of confusion is surely they must be ill-fitting on most people. I mean, when I think of myself and my friends, none of us are the same height. As someone with quite a long body, I imagine they would be massively uncomfortable because they'd be a bit tight round the crotch area. Whereas on my friend, who is a fair bit shorter than me the crotch would probably be bagging round her knees! Or do they sell them in a range of heights?

elizaregina · 19/12/2012 21:43

They make shell suits look like haut couture. Grin

lolajane2009 · 20/12/2012 08:26

I really like mine as they are comfortable and warm but i wouldnt wear them outside

monkeybrains · 20/12/2012 16:00

I can't see who would pay £100 to look "cool" in an adult onesie, but I bought the Polar fleece one from funzee (www.funzee.co.uk/product-range/soft-white-fleece-onesie-for-adults) and it is just warm and comfortable. I wear it in the evening sometimes instead of Pyjamas and a dressing gown.

Psammead · 20/12/2012 16:05

YANBU.
