to hate adult 'onesies'

They just look like over grown babies in them. Where are you supposed to wear these things? I thought they were just for sleeping in (still annoying though) but they are starting to make them look like clothes you would wear outside (www.onepiece.co.uk). Even the ones for children just look really odd. This may seem like a stupid question but I can't work out how would you use the toilet when your wearing them? They are selling them in Next now and they just look like costumes. Please tell me I'm not the only one who can't stand them.

Rant over Grin

I am not a huge fan of them for adults but DS (10 tomorrow) looks like Christopher Robin in the one I have bought him, when he's wearing it I chase him all over the house for a cuddle...sooooo cute GrinGrin

NotWankinginaWinterWonderland · 19/12/2012 07:07

See now that guy just looks silly! I wouldn't eve think of dating a man who worse one, I was talking on a dating site one night, via mobile, nice guy, seemed okay, got up next day, switched on laptop had another look, read a profile stating:

I have a Superman one-sie and am proud of it... that was that!

No, not men, like I say they have fluffy body hair and can grow beards, us females shave/veet/wax etc and erm... well my DC bought it for me!! They do ask if it is not seen for a while. I even had a competition one night, me v's 3 - 12 yr old boys in one-sies, I won obviously, they just looked silly, I would never buy DSs one.

NotWankinginaWinterWonderland · 19/12/2012 07:08

Okay maybe the 8 year old, a fluffy one though, just for hugs! Again he would have to strip for bed though, we all generally sleep almost naked in this house, thankfully there are only 3 of us!

MackerelOfFact · 19/12/2012 07:08

YANBU, they are creepy as hell and the word 'onesie' makes me retch.

OddBoots · 19/12/2012 07:09

I'm not keen myself but my kids love them. I'll stick to my very snuggly dressing gown and slippers.

LetsFaceThePresentsTheyrePants · 19/12/2012 07:11

In the 80s jumpsuits were a 'fashion item'. No one wore them as workwear as per overalls/army gear. So your argument doesn't hold there -ie that an all-in -one design is only in order to do their jobs.

FolkElf · 19/12/2012 07:13

I've got one. A big rabbit one we've affectionately termed Bunsie.

It's so warm and snuggly. I love it.

I wouldn't go outside in it though!

peacefuloptimist · 19/12/2012 07:16

JumpingJack noooooo. Don't go over to the dark side. Ignore these onesies stooges. They're a shepherd for the devil. They work for the devil. Repeat after me "I am an adult. I have no reason to dress like a baby"

I have to laugh at the models on the website all standing in their 'seriously cool' looking stances. Hoping to look serious. And cool. Xmas Grin

I notice also that allot of the shots of all the beautiful people together in their onesies don't show much of the onesie at all, but quite a bit of undies. I'm picturing the marketing director saying right people - we've got to somehow make this look cool and serious ... lol.

Anyway my eldest loves hers for sloping around the house in the evening. It always makes me smile - its a tiger suit complete with ears and feet. She's 19. She looks soooo cozy. She's bought her two younger sisters one each for xmas and i cant wait to see them in them all Xmas Grin

LetsFaceThePresentsTheyrePants · 19/12/2012 07:20

Such a lot of emotional energy going to waste here OP. Smile

bumhead · 19/12/2012 07:22

I was working in a shop and a woman came in wearing one of these with some boots. She looked like a scruffy tramp to me. Hate it when people wear pyjamas outdoors.
On that site they are £130!!! Who the hell would pay that for one of these??
If you look like one of those female models you could just about get away with it but I don't. And neither do most of us.
That all said I am buying one each for the kids for Xmas, but as PJs! And only to be worn for bed!! Xmas Grin but they are kids and I'm guessing that is who these should be for.

whomovedmychocolate · 19/12/2012 07:24

YABU - I love mine (but I wouldn't wear it out.)

I hope someone buys you one for christmas OP so you can come back sheepishly in the new year and admit that yes, they really are very comfortable. Oh and as a tip, if you wear a vest underneath, going to the loo is not chilly at all.

gastrognome · 19/12/2012 07:26

YANBU. They are weird and creepy.

Reminds me of that episode of Entourage with the adults that got their kicks from wearing giant fluffy animal costumes.

I can think of many other ways to keep warm that don't involve dressing up as a baby/furry animal.

peacefuloptimist · 19/12/2012 07:33

LFTPTP I will not be cowed and WMMC I will not be moved. I am on a mission to get mnetters to boycott these monstrosities (sp?). I'm starting a revolution! (Until my 3 month old wakes up and gives me something to do Grin)

Give him/her a poke then - you sound a bit frothing now! Grin

peacefuloptimist · 19/12/2012 07:50

A question for those who wear them at home. What do you do if someone unexpectedly knocks on your door whilst you've got them on? I don't think I could keep the horror (or keep myself from pmsl) off my face if someone opened the door dressed in one.

OP posts:
JakeBullet · 19/12/2012 07:52

Yeah...should add that despite loving the one DS has it OS strictly bedtime wear. I wouldn't take him out in it.

JakeBullet · 19/12/2012 07:53

IF I wore one (unlikely, very unlikely) I would ignore the door...couldn't cope with the shame lol.

gazzalw · 19/12/2012 07:53

They are an abomination against style and sexiness....Yuk!

whomovedmychocolate · 19/12/2012 07:53

Well I strip off and answer the door naked of course Grin

SavoyCabbage · 19/12/2012 07:57

I have had mine for two years. I wear in in the winter over my PJs as it's 11 degrees on average in my house and things blow across the floor when it's windy. I don't sleep in it as I have an electric blanket. I would love to just be in a warm house but Australians don't do insulation.

Nobody has ever knocked on my door since I have had it.

NotWankinginaWinterWonderland · 19/12/2012 08:00

No sorry I have limits no answering the door, I was caught once, running upstairs and someone spotted me so it was must, I had the good grace the Blush and say 'very sorry about what I am wearing' the man said 'No it's ok you look fine' Hmm yeah right I do have full length mirrors

NotWankinginaWinterWonderland · 19/12/2012 08:01

to not the... (my brain is in bed)

peacefuloptimist · 19/12/2012 08:12

Did anyone see young apprentice last week where one team were selling onesies at a festival. The guy in the bumblebee onesie... Do I need a better reason then that to want them banned? My ds is growling in his cot. I might have to give up my quest soon...
