To think that I should be able to eat sugary foods or drink a glass of wine without thrush coming back.

This thrush is really taking the edge off my festive mood. Every time I eat something sweet or drink more than a thimble of wine it comes back again. Doctor says use pessaries and cream but do people think the oral capsule works better? Anyone got any other useful tips? This is really pissing me off now!

MY GP told me the best way to get rid of thrush is to take the tablet and then take another one a week later even if you think it has cleared up. It says in the tablet instructions you can do this. I never had any side effects with them.

try cooking/drinking tea with Xlitol - sweet but healthy with low GI

also take some good bacteria if you have been on antibiotics in the last three years

It's ok to drink spirits, its the wine and beer you must avoid. Slimline tonic has no sugar (from what i read of the contents).
It's yeast and sugar that must be avoided, artificial sweeteners are ok. Apparently bread is ok if toasted. Avoid nuts unless roasted, anything with sugar, anything iwth yeast like marmite and stock cubes. No sugar preserved meat like bacon and ham, though some are ok preserved with dextrose. No grapes or mushroom.

oops posted too soon. So everything else is ok, eg diabetic jam/chocs etc Oh, and cheese must be processed or cooked.

A diet I was given recently by someone with a severe thrush problem. Friend was told to stick to it for a couple of months to sort her prob, not for life.

If you have recurring thrush you can ask your gp to prescribe the oral tablets - I've taken one a week for 6 months. You do need to have your bl

Whoops blood checked to make sure they're not affecting your liver - a very rare side effect. For me, it's linked to periods but prob also to sugar as I've been stuffing my face with roses etc in the office. It is an absolute bugger, so miserable and depressing. Hope you're feeling better now.

I have this too. The oral tablet usually seems to work but just recently it seems to not be as effective. Please say it's not the wine!!!

ReinDearPrudence · 19/12/2012 23:13

I used to get it regularly, and it was awful. Doctor used to prescribe cream and pessaries (in the days when you couldn't buy pessaries OTC) even when I repeatedly went to see him.

Then one day, oral flucanazole was approved for pharmacy sale - took one, thrush cleared up totally. Made me quite cross with the doc who could have given it to me years earlier.

Hope you feel better very soon.
