To be fed up with jealous people who seem to hate anyone who has more money than them?

I seem to epitomise what some people hate - I live in a gated estate, drive a 4x4, am a SAHM and send my children to private school. Why does this mean that some people think this gives them a right to be rude to me or about the choices my family make? I would never look down on anyone who doesn't have or do what I do, so why is it ok to do it the other way round? I am so fed up with it! And you know the ones I really can't stand? Champagne socialists who think they are all left-wing with socialist ideals but are really just like me!

Boasting at this time of year when people are struggling to make ends meet is just mean. That's why people don't like you.

I didn't say I was disliked. I also volunteer and fundraise for a number of charities and have a very good network of friends.

What I asked is why people think it's ok to make judgemental comments about expensive things in life but it wouldn't be ok IF I did the reverse.

To whoever it was who asked, I had an exceptionally well paid job and now that I am a mother, don't need to work. DH works part time so we do spend a huge amount of time together, enjoying hobbies and sports as a couple and a family.

Judging from a recent thread on here a very large number of MNers live in houses with either fully or very nearly paid off mortgages. I think there are a lot of wealthy people on here.

The ones without money talk about it more though as that is ok, whereas talking about how rich you are is distasteful. It's all very British, my mum would rather die than discuss how much someone earns, how much their house is worth, and what their mortgage is. I can hear her now.... 'Ugh, so common'.

I guess it's site politics in a way. I think some of the responses on here are pretty nasty though, I accept people on their actions not their bank balance.

Surely in your rarefied world, OP, you are shielded from such rabblement?

I am a SAHM, have a small (six year old) car, DCs go to state school and I'd hate to live in a gated community, so don't.

I also have a lot of money (both in assets and income).

Go on OP how much have you got any I'll see if I can trump you. If I do have more, am I allowed to dislike you or are only people with less money that you allowed to dislike you?

Because that is what I think, you don't know what I have or what we do, but I will tell you we are happy and wouldn't want life any other way.

You are also making an error in assuming that others on this thread don't have what you do. I second that.
Also, it may surprise you but not everyone hankers after a 4x4 and large house.
Wealthy people are also disliked if they have no class and are unpleasant. It's easier for them to think that others are jealous because it deflects attention away from their personal failings.
