Argh sorry should be their point of view

TheCortanaThatStoleChristmas · 16/12/2012 00:15

"and get a username that doesn't have "mummy" in it"

YY.

I don't often play guess the thread from the name but did here, MN can be a shock to some especially if you've used other sites first.

MN is mostly self moderated, if something feels wrong, report and MNHQ will take a look as per the talk guidelines. Otherwise we just tend to rub along as best a massive group of women with differing opinions can. That's my personal view on it anyways.

I felt reading classics was the best way to finding my feet here and understanding the tone of MN.

fedupdotcom · 16/12/2012 10:53

I'm a occasional lurker but was wondering why everyone can't post opinions without the deliberate nastiness. Struggling to get used to it tbh. That's why I'm an occasional lurker. Keep coming back hoping that people have developed manners and the ability to communicate in a grown up way just the way we hope our children will eventually. Nope, as usual people make presumptions from a few words on a thread and get all bitchy. Off to find a pub rather than a playground!

Fakebook · 16/12/2012 10:56

And learn how to spell.

ModernToss · 16/12/2012 11:03

Some people just aren't cut out for talkboards, fedup. You are clearly one of them.

fedupdotcom · 16/12/2012 11:21

Nope just not cut out for mn I fear. Other talk boards are not like this. I think some people come on here for genuine unbiased advice. What they get us a competition between posters about how nasty and insincere they can be. Some fragile people could actually be genuinely affected by the comments but lets not think about that. Oh and if anyone dares to express that their oh is less than perfect the advice is always to ditch the bastard. All blokes should be Prince Charming in mumsnetters eyes the same as us women are all perfect obviously.

TheCortanaThatStoleChristmas · 16/12/2012 11:21

I'd advise stepping out of AIBU and onto other subjects then fedup the help and support given by so many posters on MN is a wonderful thing. AIBU is for opinions. The only time I've ever seen someone flamed is when they have posted something nasty in the OP or the classic. AIBU? YES! NO I'M NOT YOU BITCHES! That gets nasty quickly.

ModernToss · 16/12/2012 11:25

MN is way gentler than the other talkboard I use.

Fedup, the amount of kindness, selflessness and generosity I have seen in my few years on Mumsnet have outweighed a hundredfold the "nest of vipers" bitchiness that occasionally rears its head.

ModernToss · 16/12/2012 11:36

No, it's a general chat site, everlong - news, advice, football, politics, media etcetera. Similar demographic to MN overall - quite left-leaning, and low tolerance for racism and sexism.

Anyway, I am not advertising!

"I think some people come on here for genuine unbiased advice. What they get us a competition between posters about how nasty and insincere they can be."

You are obviously reading a different forum to me. I see people going out of their way for total strangers, virtual hand holding when things are tough, cheering up those who need it, and all of the above happening whether a poster is well known or a newbie.

YANBU, I've posted on here and it's true fucking true Grin

TheCortanaThatStoleChristmas · 16/12/2012 12:07

Also in response to "Other talk boards are not like this." I agree. The users are the same though, they just have swear filters and babysitters heavy handed moderators.

FreudiansSlipper · 16/12/2012 12:07

of course there is bitching on here and put downs and the desperate need to show what a great person some are blah blah blah makes it all the more real

but I have been moved to tears on quite a few occasions when I have seen how much support there is on here too often women are pitched against each other yet this is a site mainly used by women and there is fantastic support here for all those that need it

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 16/12/2012 12:08

fedupdotcom - you are having a larf.

I was on netmums for years and it can be horribly cliquey and bitchy there. In fact, threads with this title get started on there all the sodding time as someone has taken the hump.

The difference with Mumsnet is that its more forthright, but also more supportive and helpful. When my life was utterly falling apart this year MN posters were so supportive it took my breath away. NM couldn't have given a shiny shit, even though I've been on there a lot longer.

SledYuleCated · 16/12/2012 12:53

fedupdptcom Read this, this and this

MN may have its moments, but there's much more lovely, funny and kind posters than truly foul ones.
