Two of each sex, aged 15 to 20. I'd really like to get them doing something other than xbox and texting their mates.

AIBU to think they'd join in with games? Hmm Need some inspiration.

Charades,

cantspel · 15/12/2012 20:52

As another mother of 2 teen boys i wish you luck with that one

NotSpartacus · 15/12/2012 20:53

Are you there Moriarty? - christmas classic.

apostrophethesnowman · 15/12/2012 20:53

You CANNOT be serious!

Xmas Grin

If you do get them to do something, can you record it and put it on YouTube please?

Kahlua4me · 15/12/2012 20:54

Card games involving money? Poker, horse racing, black jack etc
Charades
Scrabble
Chocolate game

Kahlua4me · 15/12/2012 20:55

Completely forgot, are you there Moriarty? We al love that game!

LaCiccolina · 15/12/2012 20:56

We used to use the questions from trivial pursuits and telly addicts and do forfeits if wrong answers.

BOFingSanta · 15/12/2012 20:56

Those 'Scene It' DVD board games you can get in B&M or Home Bargains are good for teenagers. The general movie quiz one though, not the special editions.

Quiz-based games are good. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire isn't bad either. You have to join in to get them going.

EverythingsDozy · 15/12/2012 20:57

Trivial pursuit.
I know it sounds rubbish but get them on teams and do every correct answer (that you get a segment for) gets £1 in the kitty, then the winners get the money.
It gets horribly competitive! I love it!!

Or (more of a grown up NYE on really) drunken jenga. The one who knocks it off has a shot.

difficultpickle · 15/12/2012 20:57

Who can make mum the best breakfast in bed.

How many potatoes/sprouts/carrots can you peel in 30 mins?

Who can get up the earliest to put the oven on and the turkey in to cook?

You get the idea. If I had dcs that age they would be playing a very active part in Christmas day prep. Plus of course who can do all the washing up before the Queen's speech is on. Grin

CMOTDibbler · 15/12/2012 20:59

My 5 nephews and nieces of that age did condescend to play Scaletrix with ds (who was 5) last year and enjoyed themselves.

Poker might work, but otherwise I wish you luck

BOFingSanta · 15/12/2012 21:00

I love the pounds in the kitty idea- it can't fail! Xmas Grin

thebody · 15/12/2012 21:01

Hi I have 4 ages 13 up to 23... 2 boys and 2 girls..

From day 1 practically our Christmas Day includes charades, give us a clue, shops( a family invented game) pork sausage( what ever question asked you answer with pork sausage) now it's obviously got ruder as they are older and can drink alcohol!! Also I always do a home made quiz.

During these festivities NO phones are to he used or even held.

To add me and dh drink quite a lot from 10 am onwards and strangely enough so now do the older children!!

Seriously it's the best laugh and we all enjoy connecting and being just daft.

Do it.

Backtobedlam · 15/12/2012 21:04

We were forced to play games (and still are) no option given. Proper organised games like pass the hat on the head, guess the caption (extra points for humour), that game where you put a post it on your forehead and have to guess who you have, team quiz...I could go on but I'm sure you get the idea.

The games I actually enjoyed at that age were 'buzz' a quiz on the play station, but probably available on other consoles now. I think they do who wants to be a millionaire, and other console based family games which may be more inviting than those I listed above!

SantasBigBaubles · 15/12/2012 21:05

kareoke and buzz

Yamyoid · 15/12/2012 21:05

The Rizla game (real name unknown), you could use post-it notes as well....everyone thinks of a famous person then writes it in secret on the rizla/post-it. you then stick it on the forehead of the person next to you. you take turns to ask questions about who you are. yes answers win another question, if the answer is no it's the next person's go. you can only ask yes/no questions. i.e., am i dead? It is funny.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 15/12/2012 21:07

Play Killer. On Christmas morning, everyone who will be at the house that day chooses a name, a location (from a certain room to something harder like 'in a doorway' or 'stood on one foot') and an object (again stuff like 'a classic book' or 'a hug' etc). As you 'kill' your target you take on theirs.

Eventually theres two left, so the one who kills the other first wins. Could take all day!

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 15/12/2012 21:09

We always play Cranium. It's like a mix of all the other games around.

clopper · 15/12/2012 21:13

Mine enjoy playing logo

We always loved falling out over "the really nasty horse racing game". There are other versions now too.

BabysPointlessPocket · 15/12/2012 21:20

They do games in places like m&s, house of Fraser, debenhams, bhs etc, with chocolate prizes, they're quite good.

ViperInTheManger · 15/12/2012 21:22

We always play charades, the Rizla game, etc. This year we have bought a word game called Pass the Bomb, you draw out a card with 2 or 3 letters on and have to say words with those letters in while passing round a large cartoony black bomb. You cannot pass the bomb until you say a correct word. When the bomb goes off the person holding it is out.

BOFingSanta · 15/12/2012 21:26

Forfeits like chilli chocolate roulette are good too- wrong answers get a chocolate, a small number of which are spiked with chilli.

Kahlua4me · 15/12/2012 21:40

Goldplated, can you explain your game? It sounds great but want to make sure I have rules right!
How does it work, how do you kill others!
