Can't remember the last time I posted a letter or a card but I've just been charged 7.20 for 12 1st class stamps Shock

Or am I just getting old.

OP posts:

They went up by 16p earlier in the year. I bought 100 just before but I have used them up now.

IneedAsockamnesty · 14/12/2012 16:09

Could you go all way around the uk for less?

MrsAmaretto · 14/12/2012 16:10

I spent £72 posting cards & parcels today, next year everyone is getting e-vouchers from amazon. It's shocking when you post a huge amount in a one-er.

AnnaRack · 14/12/2012 16:23

Yes the cost is truly shocking. That's why I bought my Christmas stamps back in the Spring, before the prices went up. Will have to cut back drastically on cards next year, or send tacky e-cards.

punter · 14/12/2012 16:37

I bought a book of 2nd class stamps on Monday, £6, put it in the side of my wallet, did some other shopping, got home, did some other jobs then went to find the stamps for my christmas cards. No sign. Spent the next hour looking in every place, wallet, shopping bags etc then thought I might have thrown them out with the recycling so went out in the dark with a manky torch to sift through the papers and cardboard. No luck. Could not sleep for the waste of £6 - stupid I know but I was so CROSS. And our post does not come until about 2pm and rarely on Saturdays so I wish the service would improve in line with the cost. Rant over.

festivelyfocussed · 14/12/2012 16:43

I know! V pricey I thought.

SallyCinnamonandNutmeg · 14/12/2012 17:12

They are a rip off. I no longer buy any 1st class stamps on principle although even 2nd class ones are 50p each. Given as many Christmas cards as I possibly can by hand this year!

Sallyingforth · 14/12/2012 17:41

It's a stupid policy by Royal Mail because it will simply drive more and more customers away. And the deliveries now are appalling.

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune · 14/12/2012 17:42

I think 60p to send something anywhere in the UK and to have it arrive there the next morning 90ish% of the time is pretty cheap.

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune · 14/12/2012 17:43

92.3% arrive the next working day

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune · 14/12/2012 17:44

We are just used to it being very very cheap.

complexnumber · 14/12/2012 17:45

I agree Trills

..just don't send letters. Emails will almost always do the job more efficiently and are greener.

StrawberriesTasteLikeLipsDo · 14/12/2012 17:47

It is shocking but... I bought a book
Full over a year ago.. Those buggers sat in my purse are rising in value! That is as close to investment as I will probably ever get Grin Wink

maresedotes · 14/12/2012 17:49

Yanbu. Bought a book of 2nd class stamps from the Co-op and had to sign next to the amount to prove I'd been given them.

Meglet · 14/12/2012 17:50

I didn't realise second class stamps were fifty pee each until today.

TrillsCarolsOutOfTune · 14/12/2012 17:50

You also have to sign next to cashback to prove you've been given it.

NationalLottie · 14/12/2012 17:51

can you still use old ones even though the price has gone up?

notMarlene · 14/12/2012 17:54

WTF!?

Stamps have more or less doubled in price since I left the county (10 years ago) I had no idea Shock Thought stamps were pricey here at 50 euro cent for first class!

pippop1 · 14/12/2012 17:55

I bought around £200 worth of stamps before they went up. The "interest rate" i.e. what they are worth now, was something like 37%. Note: DH is an accountant. I still have loads left and reckon they will last me for at least another year.

PetiteRaleuse · 14/12/2012 18:00

Thing is their costs are increasing and fewer people are using the service so they put the price up. So people don't use it as much. Etc. etc. etc. and they have their profit targets, like all things that used to be known as public services.

notMarlene · 14/12/2012 18:02

Yeah, where I am is a much smaller country with an excellent infrastructure. Also are equivalent of Royal Mail is TNT, so a multinational and much less pushed for cash.

notMarlene · 14/12/2012 18:03

are??? OUR

PetiteRaleuse · 14/12/2012 18:06
