Can't remember the last time I posted a letter or a card but I've just been charged 7.20 for 12 1st class stamps Shock

Or am I just getting old.

It costs less to send a Christmas card airmail from South Africa than to send a card 2nd class within the UK Xmas ConfusedXmas Shock

I think the Royal Mail have made a big error of judgement. The number of people I have seen both on here and on facebook saying that they have cut back drastically on Christmas cards and/or are not sending any this year 'cos the cost (and donating an amount to charity) and/or are making this the last year that they send even the limited amount that they decided to do this year.

PhallicGiraffe · 14/12/2012 19:18

As Royal Mail was making a loss on stamped mail, I don't see how they are making a mistake.

Second class stamps are the cheapest in Europe. First class stamps are the fifth lowest.

See here: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/stamp-prices-soar-to-record-highs-7586642.html

For the service you get, it is exceptionally good value for money.

The OP just sums it up though, "can't remember the last time I posted a letter or card..." So what does it matter!?!?

BreconBeBuggered · 14/12/2012 19:29

Parcels up to 750g are all the same price, so I find I put more into parcels rather than less. In a twisted way I feel as though this balances out the frightening expentiture on stamps.

AllTitsAndTinsel · 14/12/2012 19:35

The price increase is also due to the Governments plan to privatise Royal Mail next year, they need to be seen as a profitable organisation and have not made any profit on stamped mail for years. If there were no plans to privatise the increase would not have been so substantial. After privatisation does any one really think they will get a card to Scotland for 60p no chance also I highly doubt they will do daily deliveries to rural areas with a sparse population due to fuel costs, most likely weekly or a central collection points.

Agree op. it's far too expensive.
