DD's 16th birthday today and it's a school day so to make it extra special I ordered flowers, chocolates and 'Happy Birthday' balloon to be delivered to her at school. I checked with the school and they said they would get her when they were delivered.

I specifically requested that they be delivered before 2pm or in the morning preferably as it was being delivered to school and they obviously finish at 3pm. I was told that a note would be on the order requesting this and it should not be a problem. You can only contact them by email as their phone line keeps you on hold for over 30 mins and I have given up as it's an 0844 rip off number.

So I have just picked DD up, no flowers delivered. Tried ringing again and still can't get through so sent an email requesting that they deliver to our home address as DD is not now at school and it is shut. If they leave a note for redelivery she won't get it until Monday. They have said that they will not change the delivery address or refund and we will have to wait for it to be redelivered next week Flowers will be bloody dead! They will not refund as they have until 7pm to deliver even though I have informed them that the school will be shut.

i am fucking furious!!! £40 spent on a surprise which DD did not get!! GRRRRRRR!

I think it's a bit weird you sent them to her school...

CantQuiteBelieveItHappenedToMe · 14/12/2012 15:55

Huh? OK then!

squeakytoy · 14/12/2012 15:55

what was she meant to do with them though? walk round school all day with a bunch of flowers??

badtime · 14/12/2012 15:57

Yeah, FrenchRuby that was my thought too. Particularly if they didn't have a guaranteed delivery slot.

bumperella · 14/12/2012 15:59

Yep, I think is odd to get flowers delivered to her school, too! Sorry!!

I can see why you're livid about not being able to get in touch with them though, and being told when you ordered that there would be no problem giving you a morning delivery then failing to do so.

CantQuiteBelieveItHappenedToMe · 14/12/2012 16:00

What the actual fuck has that got to do with them not being delivered Squeakytoy.

It's a shame that your surprise failed but wouldn't it have been wiser to have asked for them to be delivered to your home to surprise her on her return from schoolplus a cake for tea, of course?

YuleBritannia · 14/12/2012 16:01

plus a cake for tea, of course?

CantQuiteBelieveItHappenedToMe · 14/12/2012 16:01

And yeah, she said she would have rather liked to have walked round school with them.

Does the school shut that early? Loads of staff work on way after three, office staff don't finish till half four and our cleaners are in till seven.

FrenchRuby · 14/12/2012 16:02

Wow rude much?

TennisFan42 · 14/12/2012 16:02

Another in the "bit weird to send them to her at school" camp I'm afraid

JambalayaWarmMincePie · 14/12/2012 16:02

Sorry, Its a lovely thought - but there's just so much potential to go wrong, and it did.

Also, working in a secondary school, I know most girls that age would be mortified at having to carry round a bunch of flowers, all day, from their mum.

YANBU in expecting delivery as agreed but it is weird to have this sort of stuff sent to school.

YuleBritannia · 14/12/2012 16:06

I worked at a school and there was always a bucket of water into which delivered bouquets could be kept until the end of the day.

If I wanted anything flowers to be delivered somewhere (anywhere) I would never have used a 0844 number or any of the others that charge a fortune. Were there no local florists with a telephone number local to you? If so, it might have cost less in petrol or bus fare to go to the shop than use a 0844 number.

Think positive; if the flowers are delivered on Monday it will make ytour DD's birthday last longer than 1 day.

ThingsthatgoSgreekinthenight · 14/12/2012 16:14

My daughter always wanted flowers delivered at school but couldn't get it organised in Greece.
Got them sent to her work in UK though last year.

I think its very bad business on their part. Hope you get the flowers even though the surprise is spoilt.

Pancakeflipper · 14/12/2012 16:19

Jambalaya - I have the giggles at carrying flowers 'from mum'. You'd have to tell your mates a different story wouldn't you?

That's poor service though on the delivery. And poor customer service in trying to resolve it. Hope you get it sorted out.

BridgetBidet · 14/12/2012 16:19

Girls had flowers sent to them at school when I was there and that was about 20 years ago now. And the school said it was ok.

I think some people have been very rude to the OP. whether or not this kind of present is to your taste has nothing to do with the fact the company agreed to deliver by two, didn't stick to that and now the flowers won't be delivered until Monday, ruined.

Whether that was for a delivery at a school or at work for a leaving present or at home if you were going out, if a company agrees to deliver for a particular time they should stick to that.

BridgetBidet · 14/12/2012 16:20

And have the bloody flexibility to change the address in these particular circumstances!

KenLeeeeeeeInnaSantaHat · 14/12/2012 16:31

Did they confirm that they would deliver by 2pm when you ordered? If you put that as a request but they didn't actually come back to you and say that was fine, then YABU to be annoyed.

And yeah, I think it's really odd to send flowers to school. I would have been mortified if my mum did anything like that when I turned 16.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 14/12/2012 16:34

Does it say on the website that you can specify a time and they will try to meet it, or does it say that it's guaranteed before 2pm?

Because it sounds very much like the first, from what they've said. If it did say they were guaranteed, argue for a refund.

HoHoHokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 14/12/2012 16:39

It doesn't matter where you asked for them to go they should have got there!!

It's bloody outrageous and i would be livid too.

They don't sound like a great company see the reviews here if you can face it!

Wouldn't hold out much hope for a happy resolution OP, sorry.

CwtchesAndCuddles · 14/12/2012 16:42

You've been unlucky but unless they guarenteed to deliver before 3pm the YABU. I would not rely on a "request" for delivery before 3pm if they say delivery could be up to 7pm.
