A friend of mine has a dd who is a week younger than my dtds who are just over 15mo. dtds sleep well - 2 hours in the day and 7.15pm-6.30/7am at night. I am happy as it means Dh sees them for half an hour when he gets home from work.

today she was bragging about how well her dd sleeps - 5pm-8am and 3 hours nap in the day. she seemed surprised I wasn't jealous but that means her dd is only awake for 6 hours every day, once she's done meals and baththere isn't a lot of time left. DJ would never see dtds of they slept that much, plus school run would be a nightmare for dd1.

I guess dd1 was such a bad sleeper, this amount of sleep would actually worry me. I'm pretty sure it's not the norm but has anyone really had a dc who needed that much sleep at 15no?

Not trying to start an argument and happy to be proven wrong, just curious.

Kids are different. My dbro slept like that. Still does.

OHforDUCKSchristmasCake · 12/12/2012 16:23

I have an 18 month old and so does my bf. Her one slept like your friends baby at the same age. Mine was and is awake a lot more.

It can differ hugely. It really can.

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 12/12/2012 16:23

My boys would easily have slept that much at that age, not necessarily every day but often enough. Compared to dd who never slept at all it was bliss!

Also, keep in mind she may be fudging the truth slightly Smile

WorraLorraTurkey · 12/12/2012 16:23

My DS2 was similar. He used to go down at 7.30pm and sleep til about 9.30am...he'd also sleep a couple of hours in the day.

OHforDUCKSchristmasCake · 12/12/2012 16:24

Also, if she is bragging and wanting a reaction maybe shes talking out her bum.

DreamingOfTheMaldives · 12/12/2012 16:29

I hope that when I have a child that it will sleep like your friend's does. My DMIL tells me that my DH barely slept as a child - she just tells me that he only slept a couple of hours a night and didn't need a nap. He drove her to despair! She took him to the doctor countless times, because she was absolutely exhausted whereas he was a happy little soul, and they told her he just didn't need the sleep.

He was the same when we met - was more than happy with only a few hours sleep a night. We could go on a night out and he could spring out of bed for work, having only been in his bed 4 hours. Even now, he will often get up at 5am as he wakes naturally and doesn't need any more sleep. Weirdo! I pray that when we have a child, it takes after me who can sleep for Britain given half a chance

forevergreek · 12/12/2012 16:33

Not quiet but at 15 months they did, 7pm-7am overnight , 9am-10am nap, 1-3pm nap. Now a few months older the morning nap is gone but the ret remains

BumgrapesofWrath · 12/12/2012 16:35

I thought that a lot of sleep at that age could mean an underlying health issue...

PrincessScrumpy · 12/12/2012 16:35

Being a sahm would be a bit dull if my dc did that. Saying that dtds are both sleep now, one cuddling me which never happens :)

I think that DC are all different. I have the other extreme with a DD who has only ever wanted about 10 hours maximum. She's finally sleeping a bit more at 2 years old. I know which I'd rather have.

PrincessScrumpy · 12/12/2012 16:38

That's what I was thinking bumgrapes - lol at name - she was 8 Weeks prem and parents have special needs.

DragonMamma · 12/12/2012 16:39

I have known a few kids like this - who would do 14hrs at night and 3hrs in the day.

DC2 is 19 mo and does 12hrs at night and has up to 3hrs in the day so he's pretty high sleep needs!

forevergreek · 12/12/2012 16:41

Well an average 15 month old should be getting 14-15 hours a day, so excessively less or more than that may need looking at

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 12/12/2012 16:49

I think it would worry me to be honest. I dont think six hours would be enough time to get enough food milk and water in them.

IndigoBelle · 12/12/2012 16:54

My DS slept a huge amount at that age. I can't remember how long at night but probably 12 hours - but then he had 2 2 hour naps during the day (ie 10-12 and 2-4)

Turns out he has Aspergers. And I'm now sure that all that sleeping was an early sign of it.

Indith · 12/12/2012 16:56

My ds1 slept loads, he did a long run of sleeping 6.30 til 8.30 then having naps in the day, sometimes 4 hours in the afternoon yet still going back to bed at 6.30! He has always, always needed plenty of sleep and still does. The other children however.... I dream of sleep.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 12/12/2012 17:03

How is the growth and developement? If dc was 8 weeks prem then corrected age would be about 13 months ? I'd have thought that at that age you would be talking probably two bottles/cups of milk plus three meals aday. That would mean they would literally be eating or drinking every hour to fit all that in? It just doesn't sound possible they would be hungry enough to eat properly? Does the baby seem ok? :)

Fakebook · 12/12/2012 17:07

As long as she's not drugging her to sleep then I don't see why it should be worrying. Does it matter how much they sleep?

Jingleflobba · 12/12/2012 17:12

If my DD slept half that much I would be Envy!
(teething, again...)

PrincessScrumpy · 12/12/2012 17:15

My dtds were 4 Weeks prem and tbh her DD was walking first where as dtds are saying words but no obvious huge differences.

Nyancat · 12/12/2012 17:23

I'd be fucking delighted, though I'm suffering teething and the great non napping baby.

HollyBerryBush · 12/12/2012 17:40

I had one who slept like that - diagnosed autistic when he was 2.5

katiecubs · 12/12/2012 17:44

Er that's on the high end of normal for a newborn so I would be a bit worried.

Don 't really get why anyone would be jealous of that tbh - at 15mo I would want to be spending a lot more quality time with my DC's. 6 hours is nothing and I would also worry it would delay their development.

shrimponastick · 12/12/2012 17:50

That sounds like quite a lot of sleep, but it won't be like that forever.

DS used to sleep a lot - 7pm-7am plus a couple of naps per day until at least the age of 18 months. - he gets it frm me :) In fact he came home from school at 4.30pm, flung his bag down and almost immediately made himself comfortable for a snooze. He is 14 though - and tends to stay up quite late.

Icelollycraving · 12/12/2012 17:52

I'd be bloody delighted tbh. Ds doesn't sleep much at all. It's my punishment for being smug when he was a baby. From 6 weeks to 4 months,he slept from 6-6 with a feed. I thought I was doing it right & the others were getting it wrong. I have paid ever since.
