A friend of mine has a dd who is a week younger than my dtds who are just over 15mo. dtds sleep well - 2 hours in the day and 7.15pm-6.30/7am at night. I am happy as it means Dh sees them for half an hour when he gets home from work.

today she was bragging about how well her dd sleeps - 5pm-8am and 3 hours nap in the day. she seemed surprised I wasn't jealous but that means her dd is only awake for 6 hours every day, once she's done meals and baththere isn't a lot of time left. DJ would never see dtds of they slept that much, plus school run would be a nightmare for dd1.

I guess dd1 was such a bad sleeper, this amount of sleep would actually worry me. I'm pretty sure it's not the norm but has anyone really had a dc who needed that much sleep at 15no?

Not trying to start an argument and happy to be proven wrong, just curious.

If the baby's parents have special needs (or did I read that wrong?) will they have lots of parenting support? Will any issues be picked up by others?

DC are all different.

My DS is like that. Between about 6 and 15 months (when his dsis came along) he would sleep from 6 at night until 10, 11 or even 12 some days! Shock He just looooved his sleep. As soon as DD came along she would disturb him and new wake up time is between 8.30 and 9 with bedtime the same and they both have an hour and a half nap some days too! DD would never sleep as late as Ds used to but she also loves her sleep. I think i'm just lucky to not ever have had sleep problems with them.

I tried a later bedtime actually because I was concerned they were sleeping too much but they just got overtired and ratty so stuck to 6.

DialsMavis · 12/12/2012 18:07

Does she mean every day? DD always slept well 6.30pm- around 8am and at least a 2 hour nap. One memorable day she had a 3 hour nap and went to bed at 6.20pm- she woke up at 9.40 am! My eldest slept nearly as much and there is nothing at all wrong with him. DD however, just stopped sleeping at 20months and we seem to have finally turned a corner 5 months later, it's been hell!

My DC1 slept like that - I had "mummy friends" that I saw pretty much every day whilst on may leave and one day whilst DD was awake one remarked it was the first time she'd seems DD awake.

DD was 5.5 mths!

Some are like that.

maternity leave

Actually if a 15 month old is sleeping 18 hours a day I would be concerned - tell your friend to take her to the HV/GP and get her checked out just in case, could be anaemia or something.

SoleSource · 12/12/2012 18:14

My DS slept 18 hours per day for years.

Her parents are lucky :):):)

SoleSource · 12/12/2012 18:15

The parents having special needs stil make them nicer than you are. Jealous cah.

Sleeping 18 hours out of 24 everyday does seem excessive...is the child going for their developmental checks etc?

CMOTDibbler · 12/12/2012 18:16

My ds was sleeping from 7-7 (with wakes for milk), a morning and afternoon nap at that age, and was still napping for 2 hours in the afternoon at nearly 4. At 6, he needs 12 hours sleep a night

ivykaty44 · 12/12/2012 18:17

DreamingOfTheMaldives - it will not matter though whether your baby sleeps or not- as your oh doesn't he can do the entertaining Grin

alwayspregnant · 12/12/2012 18:18

My ds at 18 months slept 7pm - 11.30am then an 2pm - 4pm. This went on for about 6 months. He ate like a horse when he was awake and was a very happy boy. Spoke to doctor but no health issues. HV said it was MY fault he slept so much because we obviously didn't have a daily routine!

mummymeister · 12/12/2012 18:21

my eldest dc slept like that and has heart disease. not for one minute suggesting that this child does but if something seems out of the ordinary/not normal then it usually is and there is usually a reason for it. can you perhaps tactfully broach the subject and see if they will go and get checked out by the gp. this is how i knew something was wrong with her because she slept so much more than my friends kids who were the same age. might just be one of those things but always best to be certain.
