Ds aged 6, very good at reporting things, has told me this morning that when they see us in the school hall they have only to smile and not wave, to their parents.

Bonkers.... Right??

MrsDeVere - I've never seen an infant nativity that was limited to the singing of a few carols??

Our nursery just come on at the end for a couple of carols and a scene or two but I did say that they sometimes wave etc. The R,Y1,Y2 however do a proper musical nativity play with songs that go with that play specifically, dances and acted scenes that requires proper blocking. I'm fairly sure this is normal.

It sounds brilliant! "We cant son". Love it.

It seems the hairbrained idea of no waving caused more trouble that if it had never been implemented then. That will learn 'em :)

Whats blocking may one ask?

manicinsomniac · 12/12/2012 21:19

movement around the stage - where to go, how to stand, what to do etc

Picturesinthefirelight · 12/12/2012 21:22

Blocking is when the actors are told where to stand and where and when to move during a scene and what "actions" to do.

Aha. Thanks :)

So are the parents generally waving back ?

CabbageLeaves · 12/12/2012 21:36

Nativity tonight. Most parents smiled and caught the eye of their child. One in front of me bobbed up and down, ran down the aisle to get 'the' picture. Waved and took photos of friends in rows behind her. Imagine if we all did that. Be chaos.

At times I felt that parents watched the 5 mins that their child starred in then talked amongst themselves and ignored the rest of the children. The children were impeccably behaved. Adults less so.

One teacher gives a huge amount to this production. To hear previous posters gloating at the idea of parents ruining it (to teach the teachers a lesson for daring to ask for some discipline) is really sad.

At my infant school:
Reception - mainly singing songs with actions
Y1 - proper musical style show based on nativity story, with acting and songs
Y2 - a longer showing assembly with every child speaking, sngs and some extra bits (a dance, a mini role play, etc)

DD's school
Involves whole school - musical show based on nativity story.
Y2 - get main parts
Y1/Reception - lesser parts
Juniors - choir
