So following on from 'dishwasher vodka' threads I have tried to make some chocolate vodka.
Made last night, gorgeous, come to it this morning and its set in the bottles!
It will go back to runny when I put it in warm water but I cant give that as gifts can I?
I know this is the wrong place to post this but im getting desperate, time is running out and ive not budgeted fro disasters with presents!
TIA

Could you dilute it with more vodka? Seems a waste to throw away perfectly good vodka

Rachel130690 · 11/12/2012 11:51

Have a little scream and send it my way instead of throwing it out. I'll happily eat/drink the vodka :)

Scroobius · 11/12/2012 11:55

Why not write a little tag with instructions for warming it up first; make it winter vodka so you have it warm (I think they do this in really cold countries) instead of cooling it in the freezer like normally?
Might actually make it a nice novelty thing...

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 11/12/2012 11:55

I did wonder about adding more vodka. Hmm, I may just have to as I cant think of anything else!

P.S Another deprived pregnant person; don't throw vodka away!

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 11/12/2012 11:57

Mmm like a premade winter hot chocolate, also have GD so no chocolate either!

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 11/12/2012 12:00

I can imagine all you pregnant ladies sitting there screaming at the computer 'noooo, it can be saved!!'
I just cant bring myself to chuck it. Going to try and remelt (is that a word?) and add more vodka.
Scroobius I did think about just writing on the tag to warm gently before drinking but dont know if anyone will be bothered and I just cant give them gifts they might have to chuck.

Warm-up vodka sounds brilliant!

You could add a couple of recipe ideas too - like add to hot milk for boozy hot chocolate, add to coffee for Irish-Belgian-Russian coffees etc.

sugarandspite · 11/12/2012 12:07

Would it be better presenting it in a jar? So they can scoop a spoonful out and just heat that rather than repeatedly warming the whole thing?

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 11/12/2012 12:39

Have melted and added more vodka. Testing a small amount in fridge before all goes back into bottles! I will learn the hard way. Thank you all though for suggestions.
Thanks

I have made choccy vodka - it has to be stored in the freezer not room temp or refrigerated or the choc sediment will keep setting, the vodka prevents the choc from freezing - so straight from the freezer you just give the bottle a shake and down it use!

maddening · 11/12/2012 13:02

In jars and it could've been choccy vodka spread - imagine getting that mixed up with nutella !

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 11/12/2012 14:04

Bigmouth- it can't just be in fridge? Ha to be freezer? So I definately need to get quantities right!

yes the magical properties of vodka keep the choc frim freezing solid. should be ok for transporting for a couple of hours but needs to be put back in freezer once given as gift. not really ideal for posting.Smile

bigmouthstrikesagain · 11/12/2012 14:31

yes and should only need approx 100g of choc for 70cl of vodka.

where are you storing it second? as far as i know sweety vodka is made over a few weeks by keeping in freezer and shaking dailyGrin haven't tried dishwasher method. i melt choc in microwave and then pour in bottle of vodka shake and put in freezer.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 11/12/2012 14:36

OwlLady · 11/12/2012 14:37

You can either put it through the dishwasher or stand it in a bowl of warm water and shake occasionally Second. I just did a search and Shirleyknot said 8 packets of giant parma violets/L of vodka

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 11/12/2012 17:59

Also careful with the cola cube vodka, it tastes like vodka and coke but is obviously 40% proof. You may lose an entire new years eve like I did Xmas Grin

FellowshipOfFestiveFellows · 11/12/2012 18:19

Ah? What's this Dishwasher vodka of which you speak, and is there a Gin alternative? I could die happy with gin and chocolate combined

justmyview · 11/12/2012 18:31

dishwasher vodka sounds a bit weird to me but I'll try anything once

Please expand ......

VikingLady · 11/12/2012 18:39

DH got a load of Quality Street as a leaving present from work and gave me all the ones he doesn't like. Toffee Penny vodka is gorgeous..... You need to give it a good shake when it comes out of the dishwasher though. It looked like - ahem - a tummy upset until I shook it and it went all smooth.

Sorry. Cannot think of another description.
