OMG!! It is unreasonable unless it is advent calenders for 60 people!!

catgirl1976geesealaying · 08/12/2012 20:21

Depends if you can afford it
I always lust after the beauty one (can't remember where sells it - might be Selfridges) but have never felt able to justify it

dishwashervodkaanddietirnbru · 08/12/2012 20:21

the Lego city one is half price in Argos (still wouldnt get one though!)

Floralnomad · 08/12/2012 20:22

Not if you can afford it and are going to enjoy them.

HollyBerryBush · 08/12/2012 20:22

Your DH bought himself an advent calendar?

I presume the womdos have buildable lego within, therefore probably not overly expensive when all added up

giraffesCantFlyLikeReindeer · 08/12/2012 20:22

Take £20 of overall xmas present budget for each person

giraffesCantFlyLikeReindeer · 08/12/2012 20:22

off

YoHoHoAndABottleOfSherry · 08/12/2012 20:22

I bought Playmobil advent calendars for my DC.
I'm viewing it as part of the Christmas presents, and accordingly have bought them a slightly smaller christmas present for Christmas day (also Playmobil) than I might have done otherwise.

catgirl1976geesealaying · 08/12/2012 20:23

sold out :(

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/12/2012 20:24

My 3 dc have the lego ones and are absolutely loving them.

have just looked -the lego ones are cheaper on Amazon

FionaJT · 08/12/2012 20:30

I bought a (sale bargain) Playmobil one for dd last year. If you'd be buying lego/playmobil anyway the amount of stuff you get in it is pretty good value compared to the normal sets

Aspiemum2 · 08/12/2012 20:33

I got the lego one half price for ds and zhu zhu one for £4 for dd. £14 in all and they love them. I've never done it before but it's nice they have something to keep

silverfrog · 08/12/2012 20:35

I bought a couple of the seasonal lego kits (a reindeer/father christmas sleigh and a train) and have apportioned them up, wrapped the bits in tissue paper and shoved in our reusable advent calendar.

so a lego advent calendar each for my 2 dds for less than half the price. bargain.

but otherwise, if you can afford it, then why not?

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 08/12/2012 20:36

I was VERY extravagant and bought DS (aged 8) a Lego one costing £27. He loves it and I definitely see it as part of his Xmas present.

So not sure if you are BU or not

DS1 gets a Lego City advent calendar every year - as part of his birthday present, since his birthday is December 1st.

DS2 got a half price Percy pig one. He's feeding me all the chocolates because he doesn't like them! :o

YourHandInMyHand · 08/12/2012 20:38

DS has had a lego one this year and last year. I bought both at half price, and DS is lego mad so well worth it IMO. Wouldn't pay full price for them though, and certainly would Hmm at an adult buying themselves one for £20.

TheReturnOfBridezilla · 08/12/2012 20:39

Catgirl that one looks right up my street.

I hope my dc hate Lego when they are older. It looks an expensive hobby. Grin

hermioneweasley · 08/12/2012 20:46

We reuse the playmobil ones each year. Pieces get packed back into the right window and put away.

Lollydaydream · 08/12/2012 20:59

I'm planning on doing the same as hermioneweasley; they are also sharing the calendar between them. I'm hoping it will become a tradition for them - may be over optimistic there!

pecans · 08/12/2012 21:07

Can't see quite how you reuse them - the element of surprise is gone, and that's the main point surely. I get one calendar to share - so £18 between the two this year. £20 on an adult's calendar is crazy!

TheCortanaThatStoleChristmas · 08/12/2012 21:11

If it wasn't within your budget or discussed first I think your DP was BU to buy them.

They're good value though, less than £1 per lego toy and not only has DS loved opening them but we'd loved watching. I will get DP one next year as the joy that comes with a limited edition Star Wars Christmas Toy is not limited to the under 10's apparently.

YourHandInMyHand · 08/12/2012 21:11

I think Lego is actually one of the best value toys you can buy! DS plays with his lego all the time, he likes to sort by colour or block type, build stuff, adapt it into whatever his other interests are. We currently have a lego figure made into Captain Underpants, and a very square Eve robot from Wall-e made of lego. Smile

It's unbreakeable. Doesn't need batteries. Can be played with again and again. Never goes out of fashion. His lego is played with with his 3 year old cousin and his 15 year old brother. Not many toys you get that sort of age range from!
