2 days ago I lost/misplaced 3 rings, my engagement ring, my wedding ring and a ring passed onto me from my grandma that was made with my mums ashes.
I usually wear all 3 but due to health problems my fingers have been sore so have been taking them off indoors, I haven't been anywhere so they must be here somewhere.
I have pulled the whole place apart, my gran died earlier in the year and gave me the ashes ring, I feel terrible, I can't stop crying, I literally feel like I must be being punished, I am tired of bad stuff happening, I feel sick. Do I need to "get over it" I am going from rationally thinking they can't have disappeared to thinking they must have.
A lot has happened this year, my gran was diagnosed with cancer and had died within 6 weeks then I suffered a miscarriage, I felt like I was coming through the other side after a tough time and a long history of depression, now I feel a mess.

This has probably gone on far too long but even if noone reads it, it felt good to get it down, and thanks to anyone who does manage to read it.

Now back to searching!

I've been lurking all afternoon on this thread hoping for a happy update. I hope you find them soon, good luck!

maddening · 08/12/2012 19:58

A diamond fell out of my ring - I had been out, to my sister's, I'm the car and everywhere in between. Ds was 20mths and I had been all over the house with him.

I didn't Hoover for a week and the day I had to Hoover I just spotted it there on the floor - had given up on it!

maddening · 08/12/2012 20:01

Can you systematically do each room. Pull everything out and put it back carefully - even furniture. Take the chance to have a sort out :)

kitbit · 08/12/2012 20:20

You will find them!

Pockets.
Safe places that you might have created.
Did you just pop them down somewhere or did you put them away completely?
Jewellery box.
Small tupperware.
In zip pocket of handbag, or in 'best'handbag as safer.
Inside duster.
Bedside table, flicked across the room when making the bed.
They will turn up!!

Down drains, ubends, get a metal detector? Check not hoovered up? I once lost my passport becauseit was on top of books on a bookshelf. In a pocket? In the oven?

Bedat10 · 08/12/2012 20:37

A friend of mine lost a very special diamond earring at my house last year - we searched and searched and searched, hoovered, turned everything upside down looking for it. In the end we decided my toddler DS must have eaten it, but nothing sparkly appeared in his poo... Friend bought herself new earrings and I felt guilty...
MONTHS later I was emptying the washing machine and heard something tinkling in there, lo and behold it was the earring. Must have been caught up in something I washed obviously but no idea what. At least you know they are in the house, they will eventually turn up. Good luck! X

I lost my wedding ring and my watch on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, after a whole day of frantically looking for them my Ds1 aged 2 told me my watch was under the sofa and he was right. On Weds I was still searching for my wedding ring when Ds1 told me very sweetly it was in the bin! and it was bin day that morning.

Keep looking, if you don't have any naughty little fingers about im sure you will find them.

Pictureperfect · 08/12/2012 23:20

Anyone would be upset. Did you take them off in the house? Have you thrown anything away? I would start with re-going through any rubbish and try and get someone else to so you are 100% sure that they aren't in anything leaving the house, that should mean they are somewhere in the house. I've heard of the occasional story of rings being washed down a sink but seems unlikely 3 would disappear down so I'm sure they will turn up. I agree with suggestions of unwrapping all gifts wrapped up for starters and if you have a bag/box of ribbons or scraps of wrapping paper try that. My nan died this year, shortly before she died she lost her engagement and wedding ring in hospital, the wedding ring was found hiding on the floor but engagement one wasn't (obviously much more likely to be lost in a hosp than at home), she got married young and I was sad that they had lasted all those many decades only to be lost at the end

Thumbwitch · 09/12/2012 00:04

My DH has lost his wedding ring 3 times:
the first time after moving some plants from his brother's house to ours, I was sure it must have come off when he was planting the big fern. He wasn't convinced but eventually agreed to get a metal detector, as his brother was selling his house and we needed to check his garden before the sale completed - it was in our garden, about half way down the roots of the big fern he'd planted;
the second time he eventually found it on the floor of his office;
and the third time was when DS swallowed it, as mentioned above.

I think his luck has run out on finding it again though - so hopefully he won't lose it again!

I am sure you'll find yours again though. :)

BinksToEnlightenment · 09/12/2012 00:16

I lost a ring inside a pair of gloves. It had ended up tucked inside when I peeled the glove off.

maddening · 09/12/2012 00:17

In cups or wine glasses in a cupboard?

starfishmummy · 09/12/2012 01:02

Agreeing with the metal detector.
I have seen some in toys r us and they will be open on Sunday - not sure how good they are!

camrywagon · 09/12/2012 03:12

When we were kids my mum threw her engagement window out of the window in a fit of pique during an argument with my dad. Spent days looking for it before presuming a magpie had done away with it...ten years later the gardener found it in a bush - the branch had grown through it.
They WILL turn up! ( I second a quick prayer to St Anthony)

ChristmasFayrePhyllis · 09/12/2012 04:05

You poor thing. I get like this when I lose precious things - all weepy and exhausted. You will find them, but I've asked St Anthony to speed things up for you.

cheekybaubles · 09/12/2012 05:11

I love your mn name. Hope you have found them? Do you have wood flooring?

sufferingfromcraft · 09/12/2012 06:02

Yanbu, I once found a ring I hadn't realised I had lost Xmas Blush. I also have m.e. hence the name, which might explain it.
I would make sure you check the filter on the washing machine if you have used it, the other thing I would suggest is to get someone independant in, because when I'm looking for things I think I won't check certain places because "I wouldn't have put it there" Good luck!

WhereTheWildOnesSnow · 09/12/2012 08:34

Will definitely be following these suggestions. Had to stop searching yesterday as it all got a bit much.
What I do know is I wasn't wearing them when I lost them and they are definitely lost in the house. No bins have been emptied, recycling has been checked and I checked one bag in particular in the household waste but will be going through the whole lot today.
We have laminate or tiles all through the house so not lost in the floor.
My cousin has said I can borrow his metal detector, although for searching inside the house I don't know whether it will be any help.

I know for definite that it isn't in the bathroom, so that's one room ruled out, just the rest of the house to go, I really hope I can come back to this thread soon and say I've found them somewhere really obvious.

Have you checked where you keep wrapping paper/presents?

Fingers crossed they turn up very soon x

cheekybaubles · 09/12/2012 09:35

Good one goldilocks

WineGless · 09/12/2012 09:39

Saying a prayer to St Anthony for you and sending positive vibes

WhereTheWildOnesSnow · 09/12/2012 11:02

I have some FANTASTIC news, I found them! They were in amongst a bag of food leftovers in the wheelie bin, I had to sort through manky beans, garlic bread and spaghetti and they were in the bottom of the bag, I am so happy I shed a little tear.

I had looked through 1 bag in the bin that had the leftover scraps of sticky tape and wrapping paper but did not even think to look amongst the food. I think i must have picked up loads if things at once which all needed to go in different places and put the ring in the wrong one.

The only problem now though is they stink of garlic, I've tried washing them and can't get rid of it.

Thank you for all the ideas and kind words, made me not feel so much of a drama queen.

Lemon juice might get rid of the smell; if not, rub neat fairy liquid onto the dry rings, rub it in really well, and use an old toothbrush (or similar) on it to really get into all the fittings and crannies. Then rinse.

Hurrah for finding them and well done for braving the bin bags!

Tiredmumno1 · 09/12/2012 11:09
