To not have a clue what to get my 4 year old girl for christmas?

Fairly trivial problem, I know. I trogged round ToysRus for an hour and still none the wiser. Is it me or are girl toys a bit crap? All pink, sparkly and mostly all trying to instill values in my little girl I would rather avoid. Oh alright she does have some barbies and stuff but I wanted to get her something with a little more substance.

Any ideas? Anyone???

My dd nearly 4 is also getting the Asda dolls house I haven't built it yet though. She also asked for a white cat (got an animagic one from asda for £15) and a Dr dress up kit, sil is going to get that.

autumnmum · 07/12/2012 20:41

My DD Doesn't do pink or girly. For her 4th birthday we got her a marble run which has a motorised bit on that picks the marbles up. The kids still play with it now and DD is nearly 8.

Toys r us have wooden dolls house with furniture for £30, we have one which I painted & wallpapered and my girls (2, 4 & 6) all love it. Can't link to it but is on their website.

Micro scooters here for dd 4 1/2 and 7. Not sure though whether to get them a maxi micro each or one of the others?? Anyone have any experience with them?

MerylStrop · 07/12/2012 23:58

5 year old DD's getting this shedload of pens

Also a make gloop and slime science set.

The only things she asked for were some pens and some chocolate. She's not one bit interested in toys, just making stuff and dressing up.

For her birthday in Feb I might get her a polaroid camera, I think she would adore it.

MerylStrop · 08/12/2012 00:01

DD would LOVE a human body with removable organs. LOVE it.

LaTrucha · 08/12/2012 08:28

Mine too. She'd also love those pens! And neither is she interested in toys. Maybe they should meet... Grin

My 5 year old DD had the ASDA dolls house last year- it's such good value for money. I also agree with others about Playmobil, the sets are great. DD also had the Playmobil waterpark, and she's played with it loads.

quirrelquarrel · 08/12/2012 09:53

Can't you just get her lots of arty materials- fabrics, lots of postcards, posters out of her favourite books.....strawberries, a rug, a little table which you paint and stencil, or a tiny little cupboard with a doll in it, or a box with sparkles and sequins mixed in altogether (though I don't know how you'll keept them in there after five minutes of her having it!), stacks of secondhand books, fake flowers for her room.....it doesn't have to be toys all the time.

AppleAndBlackberry · 08/12/2012 17:55

hexbug nano set?

quoteunquote · 08/12/2012 19:31

Lego.

jellyjem · 08/12/2012 20:22

My dd is nearly 5, the only thing she has asked for is a lalaloopsey doll so she has that along with another outfit for the doll. We've also brought her loads of art and craft duff, some playdoh sets and a new scooter.

I was at a bit of a loss this year too, she already seems to have everything. Barbie is usually a good bet but our house is full of them and their accessories already.

BarceyDussell · 08/12/2012 20:25

Mine is having an animagic pony.

helsbels03 · 08/12/2012 21:42

I have got my 4yr old a 'disco' for her bedroom- aka karaoke machine and disco lights!!!! Wouldn't have been my first choice but its what she wanted- that and yet MORE play-dough!!!! Tescos have a ice little pop cake maker that looks good too

My dd was 4 last year and the big hits were playmobil vets and one of those barking puppies which was half price in Argos. Dmil bought her a small dog bed and blanket for it which she also loved.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/12/2012 22:21

And she also loves orchard games.

StateofConfusion · 09/12/2012 01:13

My dd just turned 4.

She adores her designer friend doll and clothes from argos, so much so grandmas indulging her with a second one for christmas. Threading buttons from elc, she LOVES these.

For christmas I've got her a vtech laptop, iron and ironing board (for aforementioned dolls clothes at her request) and the wooden dolls bed from ikea, crayola twistables pencil case paper/pads etc.

HELPMyPooIsStuck · 09/12/2012 01:45

It's christmas, kids don't want substance.....they want stuff !

SkiBumMum · 09/12/2012 02:54

My almost 4yo is having a science set because she loves Nina and the Neurons, a tea set because she's outgrown the fisherprice one, a hula hoop, a leotard and a lunchbag. She will love all of them Don't you know what your DD will like?

girlsyearapart · 09/12/2012 03:55

I also had problems getting my 4 year old dd her present.

She only said she wanted a baby annabell which mil has already got her..

In the end I got her a vetech laptop.

Her 5 year old sister is on the other hand very easy to buy for- she has a tag reader with the world map previously mentioned.

Also getting a DVD each, a book each, dd2 the 4 year old- is getting an elc game called fishing for letters.

They all have character pyjamas & some chocolate.

Sil is getting them each a personalised notebook - name on the front blank inside - because all they want to do is write & draw

MamaChocoholic · 09/12/2012 05:25

Ooh I've got ds, 4, one of those bodies with squishy removable internal organs. Not gruesome at all, just human biology!
He loves science.
