In theory its a good idea .... sales will probably be on if you leave it a couple more days.

Rudolphstolemycarrots · 07/12/2012 13:49

Is it worth waiting for the sales if you are really tight financially? He could open a few gifts Xmas day and tell him the majority will be new years eve.

givemeaclue · 07/12/2012 13:49

150 is absolutely loads

specialsubject · 07/12/2012 13:51

you are strapped for cash and you are spending £150 on presents?

there does not appear to be an icon for 'holds head in hands in despair'

redskyatnight · 07/12/2012 13:52

YWNBU to buy presents at what ever time suits you.
YABU to think that £150 is not very much.

Charliefarlie1192 · 07/12/2012 13:54

I won't be strapped for cash on 21st

Is it loads though? Some of my colleagues have spent in excess of 500 per child (which I do think is ridiculous ) 150 isn't going to go that far .....

Last year I did loads on christmasd eve, tescos was great got all their coats and clothes less then half price and loads of toys to. Thought it would be packed but I went early in the morning. I suppose it depends, if there was something like a furby your dc wanted you would have to get that before it would be sold out, but if they'd be happy with anything then christmas eve shopping is great. I'm working christmas eve this year Sad

BahSaidPaschaHumbug · 07/12/2012 14:02

21st is about normal for me, mostly because I never have a clue what to get anybody. The amount depends of the age of your child really. My DS is only 2 and his entire present collection costs less than £60 but I can see it gets harder as they grow up and get more sophisticated technological stuff.

Nobody will know or care really if you spend £50 or £500.

AmberLeaf · 07/12/2012 14:04

I thought this was going to be about the so called end of the world due on the 21st december Grin

YDdraigGoch · 07/12/2012 14:08

£500 per child!!!! That's ridiculous.

I have the week off starting 17th, and will do all my shopping then. I haven't bought a single present yet.

honeytea · 07/12/2012 14:09

Yanbu to shop on the 21st.

Yabu to think 150 pounds isn't much money, it's loads. 500 pounds on presents is just silly unless you are buying a holiday, 500 pounds on toys would mean a new extension needs to be built.

WileywithSageStuffing · 07/12/2012 14:11

I thought this was going to be about the so called end of the world due on the 21st december

Oooh yes wait until at least the 22nd. It would be gutting if you went to all the grief of shopping and then the world ended when you just get back through the door!

HeathRobinson · 07/12/2012 14:14

Yes, Amberleaf, I thought Charlie was hedging her bets re the 21st! Grin

gymboywalton · 07/12/2012 14:16

'only' 150 quid on one child???

the world is going bonkers!!!! i would not consider myself hard up at all-i thinkn i am comfortable ish but i would dream of spending 150 quid on just one child! wtf are you buying?

HalleLouja · 07/12/2012 14:18

£150 per child. Mine should be so lucky.

I have bought some pjs etc that I would have bought them anyway. As I got carried away on Zulily.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 07/12/2012 14:18

I don't understand the point of your post; if you can't afford to shop until the 21st, then of course you are not being unreasonable. You are being unreasonable to think that £150 isn't much to spend on DS.

mamij · 07/12/2012 14:22

We are fairly comfortable, but I find £150 for a child way too much! I've spent about £20 on DD1 and £15 on DD2.

£500...! Wow!

Each to their own I guess!

givemeaclue · 07/12/2012 19:19

Yes 35 each here!

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 07/12/2012 19:23

The OP didn't ask opinions on amount of money spent, for all we know she might do what I do and get things like jammies and socks and pants and slippers and clothes and shoes and toothbrushes ect which other dc get frequently anyway.

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 07/12/2012 19:25

And no one in RL only spend £15 and at least 50% of people I know/aquaintences are on full benefits.

Tamisara · 07/12/2012 19:29

I'm another who wondered if it was due to the 'end of the world' Blush

Still, even so I'm not worried about the wasted presents if the world does end; it will give the zombies something to play with.

MaltesersR4LifenotJust4Xmas · 07/12/2012 19:35

I think £150 is average for most people I know in rl, also getting more expensive as dc's get older, I still have a few pressies to get op, just can't face braving the shops yet! It will be fine then as long as you have a list

Northernlurker · 07/12/2012 19:40

I will be doing quite a bit of shopping on 21st. I think £150 is fine. All in, with a big present of around £30-40 plus an outfit and pjs plus stocking stuff that's about what my dds get.

mamij · 07/12/2012 19:45

Actually, it is possible to only spend £15 on one Christmas present as I stuck to my budget. DDs Christmas presents are more of gestures from DH and me, as they get toys throughout the year anyway!
