to want to give our DC the same name as our cat?

Just to be clear, I don't want to name DC after the cat, just use the same name as the cat. In an ideal world I would have saved the name for DC but it didn't occur to me at the time we got the cat.

It is my favourite name in the whole world and would love to name DC this but is it a bit odd? DP doesn't see a problem.

Has anyone ever given their DC the same name as a beloved pet?

If the cat is still alive and living with you, then yes, it would be very odd indeed.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 05/12/2012 22:14

I had this problem. Got cats, didnt want to save the names as thought it would be tempting fate. Got pregnant and spent nine months giving the cats evils for having my favourite male and female names.

Dh doesnt like girlcats name so it was ok accepting finding an alternative but had dd been a ds I would have still been uhming and ahing in the registry office.

In the end I think I would have used it as a mn.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 05/12/2012 22:14

What is the name?

This happened to my friend. He didn't mind at all.

FierySmaug · 05/12/2012 22:15

My Db and Sil did this. They used to have two pedigree cats. Now their Ds has the same name as one of the cats. It's a lovely name and suits my little Dn. He's not named after the cat, it's just their favourite boy's name!
If you love the name, you should use it!

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob · 05/12/2012 22:15

I don't think it is even slightly odd, just do it. Change that cats name to something else that's similar if it bothers you.

EvilTwins · 05/12/2012 22:16

My daughter has the same name as my cat. The cat is dead though - died years ago. She knows she has the same name as the cat and thinks it's hilarious.

Here Pussy, Pussy...

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 05/12/2012 22:16

Get the cat adopted Simples.

apostrophethesnowman · 05/12/2012 22:16

I wouldn't give the child the same name as the cat, I would, however, just change the cat's name.

HoratiaLovesBabyJesus · 05/12/2012 22:16

Weird. Don't do it.

I can't bring myself to recommend throwing the cat in front of a lorry and using the name in honour of it. Cats are too lovely to even joke about that.

Oops.

slambang · 05/12/2012 22:17

I'm sure your cat wont mind.

doublesquared · 05/12/2012 22:17

I'd rather not say the name if that's ok. It is a human name though!

..just to clarify, they don't have said cat anymore, and hadn't long before they had their Dcs.

natation · 05/12/2012 22:18

An ex-friend has her dog and son with the same name. She's a psycho, so no my judgement is rather clouded there. I think it very bizarre.

I suggested the name of one of our long-dead cats for DD2. DH was horrified and wouldn't hear of it.

QuickLookBusy · 05/12/2012 22:26

I loved our cats name and wanted dd2 to be called it. But I didn't do it, it felt a bit weird. It would get a bit confusing for a start.

Although you could change the cat's name, I'm sure it wouldn't mindGrin

FlojoHoHoHo · 05/12/2012 22:28

Is the cat still alive? Def rename the cat. And yes, I think it is a bit weird!

PurpleTinsel · 05/12/2012 22:28

It does sound a bit odd to give a child the same name as your cat.

But renaming the cat sounds like a good way to get around it. I can imagine potential confusion if they've both got the same name at the same time.

Pickles101 · 05/12/2012 22:28

As long as it's not Mittens. I say go for it Grin

breatheslowly · 05/12/2012 22:30

I've always thought that Oscar and Felix sound more like cat names than human ones, probably something to do with cat food. So as long as it isn't either of those then it sounds fine to me.

pettyprudence · 05/12/2012 22:35

go for it! I spent the first 6 weeks getting ds and cats names mixed up and dh told me to just swap them Grin

catgirl1976geesealaying · 05/12/2012 22:36

DS is named after DHs childhood dog
