to want to give our DC the same name as our cat?

Just to be clear, I don't want to name DC after the cat, just use the same name as the cat. In an ideal world I would have saved the name for DC but it didn't occur to me at the time we got the cat.

It is my favourite name in the whole world and would love to name DC this but is it a bit odd? DP doesn't see a problem.

Has anyone ever given their DC the same name as a beloved pet?

Give the cat a new name

Beaverfeaver · 05/12/2012 23:19

I purposely name my cats with names not suitable for my babies

StuntGirl · 06/12/2012 00:09

I think it's odd but you do what you like!

wtf1981 · 06/12/2012 00:12

Is it Ben or Sam or Tom?

Cahoootz · 06/12/2012 00:25

Perfectly ok thing to do.

I've always thought that Oscar and Felix sound more like cat names than human ones, probably something to do with cat food. So as long as it isn't either of those then it sounds fine to me

   you are a bit late with that advice <img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Xmas Wink" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/fwink-BR5ocTsv.png">

Think that would be a really odd thing to do.

Change the cats name!

My sister gave her ds the name of a cat we had as children. Its long since dead tho.

I have an oscar why does it make people think if pet food?!

Dp wanted felix for ds1 and i said no because of the cat food, but actually i rather like it now, its quite popular, i know three little felixes.

My friend did that - changed the cat's name from Oliver to Gulliver. As it rhymed the cat didn't really seem to notice. All I can say is it was lucky she didn't want to use the other cat's name or her son would have been named Gizmo Xmas Grin.

WildWoodFlower · 06/12/2012 01:18

I think your child is more important than the cat and should be given the name .You can give the cat a nickname similar

quirrelquarrel · 06/12/2012 01:27

I wish I could give my future kid (dangerous thought!) the same name as one of my pets....

whois · 06/12/2012 08:34

Can you rename the cat?

FeelingFestiveCheerMum · 06/12/2012 08:41

If dd had been a boy then she would have had the same name as my dads two dogs as Henry George was top of our list, not because of the dogs, just nice boys names. Luckily, she was a girl so no confusion.

I'd give the child the name you love and rename the cat.

ChaoticforlifenotjustChristmas · 06/12/2012 08:56

My dd, when she was 4, wanted to call the puppy we got after her Xmas Grin

TaggieCrimbleBlack · 06/12/2012 09:08

When pregnant I had a moan that I wanted MiLs cat name but couldn't because it was the cat.

Cat died the next day Blush

ornellaia · 06/12/2012 09:14

My DD has the same name as my long-dead childhood cat. My parents found it a bit odd but nobody else really knows; I do joke that I named her after the cat.

I also gave my dog one of my favourite boys names, I'm pretty sure I won't I won't be having any more DC, but if I miraculously do the dog will be getting a new name.

carabos · 06/12/2012 09:16

This is why you shouldn't give animals human names. You will have to change the cat's name. The cat won't notice mind and there are no circs under which you should hesitate to put what you want for your child ahead of your pet.

Caerlaverock · 06/12/2012 09:25

Cats don't give a shit what you call them, change it
