I am so sick of not being able to follow stories correctly because I get confused by who is a BFF, or a BBF, a DH, DC, a DSiL, a DMiL, DFiL, DC2R (dear cousin twice removed) or whatever - where did this trend start and why are we perpetuating it? It's been going on for years, and I've had enough of it ;)

Hth - hope this helps not sure on pesh and besh though.

HerBigChance · 05/12/2012 22:13

despite all the cunting and fucking it's like we're in a little room having tea and biscuits while the depravity of The Internet happens outside.

Heh, stuntgirl Xmas Grin

Agree with your second point too: although I find the acronyms tedious, I try to skim past them and just enjoy the site.

I'll have to google meme. Havn't a clue.

HassledHasASledge · 05/12/2012 22:18

Sometimes I make the mistake of reading YouTube comments on what I think are fairly innocuous videos - something like the Beach Boys, say. Something old and safe. And my god - there are some nutty psychos out there - I don't think you can look at more than 3 comments on any single video on YouTube without some scary fucker making some incendiary comment.

So yes, compared to that we are definitely tea and biscuits :o.

KenLeeeeeee · 05/12/2012 22:20

DILLIGAF

FlojoHoHoHo · 05/12/2012 22:20

YABU the only ones I get confused by are DN (neice or nephew?) And DF (father or fiance?)
It's the darling bit I don't get, especially when its usually following by what a complete twonk they have been!

WorraLorraTurkey · 05/12/2012 22:23

What LadyBeagle said

Or WLBS (for short)

Cathycomehome · 05/12/2012 22:25

I got cross with this too when I first came on here, it seemed so twee, but recently I've just given in and started using ds1 and ds2. "My younger/older sob seemed suddenly too much bother to type! So YANBU and yabu. Hth. Wink

amillionyears · 05/12/2012 22:26

I like it, having all the dears. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by it when I came on here.
The acronym I got confused by was EA. I thought MNetters were a bit obsessed by estate agents. Took me longer than it should have done to cotton on, and in the early days I didnt post on threads with EA, as they didnt make much sense.

Cathycomehome · 05/12/2012 22:26

Son, not sob. Sob is a hole different acronym!

Cathycomehome · 05/12/2012 22:26

Ahem, whole...

RandallPinkFloyd · 05/12/2012 22:27

It took a little bit to get used to them I suppose but I don't really see them anymore.

It's like all the pointless acronyms used in work all day. Every workplace has them, some the same some their own, you stop noticing them very quickly.

I do like a well placed lol and am particularly partial to a good soz. I also use iyswim a lot as I'm a bit crap with words. (Not great when posting on a forum.)

XiaoxiongMerrilyOnHigh · 05/12/2012 22:29

I googled "besh pesh" and found (a) a person on Facebook with that rather unfortunate name and (b) this useful thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/1048367-ESH-PESH-BESH/AllOnOnePage

Apparently they call periods "the droid" which is a hell of a lot better than that twee AF nonsense IMO.

I overuse IMO, IMO.

Merrycuckingfistmas · 06/12/2012 14:59

Really is that what they mean? Wow I wouldn't want to call myself or anyone else that Confused

LRDtheFeministDude · 06/12/2012 15:05

I started an anecdote to DH the other day with 'and this woman told her DD - sorry, her daughter ...' and he cut me off with a sniggering 'I know the lingo, LRD'.

Blush

I can't decide which is worse, me telling MN posts as anecdotes (it was funny though), or DH knowing exactly what it all means.

I over use TBH too, usual. And TBF. And, at the moment, 'frankly', which I seem to have picked up from MN.

Paiviaso · 06/12/2012 16:46

I don't like it either, and don't really understand why it's used. What is wrong with writing mum or husband?
