I chose a space that had the best view, locked up and left the car for the whole day. I had to walk further to get to where i was going, but it felt right.

I'm losing it aren't I?

Goldmandra another one here who is really interested by your comment.... I've wondered over the years if I had some sort of ASD (scored highly on various online tests, had to learn correct emotional responses in social situations, that sort of thing) and your comment rings a bell.

I used to:
cuddle all of my toys if I cuddled one of them so the rest wouldn't be sad
and still do:
feel bad for reaching to the back of a shelf in the supermarket for the non-battered stuff because the battered stuff may never find a home and it will be sad (this includes boxes of chocolate and also carrots Confused)

I've never deliberately left my car with a nice view though, maybe I don't love him enough!!

Luigi, is old and past his best. He may have once been a good looking italian but he's starting to show his age and get's a bit grumpy in the mornings. He likes a good view to enjoy in his old age.

assigning emotions to inanimate objects is a symptom of ASD? my dc (with ASD) can't assign emotions to people let alone inanimate objects.

Morloth · 05/12/2012 21:12

I talked mine up a big steep hill yesterday by telling her she was a good girl and just a little further.

DS1 now thinks I am insane and wants to know how I know the car is a girl.

She just is.

thatlldopigthatlldo · 05/12/2012 21:17

oh yes, the cajoling. C'mon, you can do it old boy.

I park mine next to other similar cars so he has friends Xmas Blush and have been known to park in more scenic or remote places so he has plenty of space and nice surroundings. I also talk to him. Save me a seat in the loony bin Xmas Blush

I assign emotion to almost everything too. I used to feel sorry for waste food as it wouldn't get eaten and fulfill its destiny. I feel sorry for almost anything thrown out, particularly unused stuff. I am going to turn into a hoarder of epic proportions Sad The thought of throwing out stuffed toys fills me with horror and sadness too...

I look after all her brothers and sisters on the roads. I had a Focus and so let out Fiestas, Kas (that looks wrong Confused) etc. I was devastated when I realised I had been driving a Vectra for a few months and forgetting, thereby ignoring all the Astras and Corsas. I felt terrible. :(

My Mini has to park next to other mini's. It's obvious isn't it- they're family.

BrevilleTron · 05/12/2012 21:34

ALL my cars have had names and personalities except the Renault Megane Scenic that was named 'The Polished Turd' aka 'the PT Non-cruiser. I HATED that car
Victor is my current car and let's me know if he is unhappy by the airbag light coming on and going off when the thing is sorted eg a bath.
I have parked him next to other 75's and regularly talk to him.
He likes it.

lovebunny · 05/12/2012 21:35

that was thoughtful of you, op. if i had a car, i'd park it where i had the best view of it. i have a suspicious nature.
however, my elephant screenwipe is cosy in a fleece in case he gets cold...i don't wipe anything with him, that would be uncomfy for his tummy...

BrevilleTron · 05/12/2012 21:35

Damn you iPhone

Goldmandra · 05/12/2012 21:36

My DD1 who has AS feels exactly like you Herrena. She really is quite bizarre about it at times Smile although less so as she gets older. It was noted as evidence for her diagnosis.

It always made sense to me that children should assign feelings to dolls or teddy bears but it is a bit weird when DD1 is worried about how leftover food feels.

I dread to think how she'll be when she gets her first car!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/12/2012 21:39

Our car doesn't have a name or gender BUT the satnav lady (it's built in) is called Doris. As in Directional Doris.

Goldmandra · 05/12/2012 21:44

Oh yes feel very sorry for the satnav lady when DH keeps deciding he knows a better route. I always picture he with her head in her hands over a table full of unfolded maps as she inwardly groans and says 'recalculating' for the umpteenth time.

VisualiseAHorse · 05/12/2012 21:49

I panic when I have to buy something and there is only two left on the shelf, when I only need one. I'll buy both so the other one doesn't feel lonely.

Also had a problem once sewing a button on to replace a popper on some trousers. Thought all the other poppers would gang up on the button and be mean to it...

VisualiseAHorse · 05/12/2012 21:52

Also, when I see two cars by themselves, one facing away from the other, I imagine they've had some sort of argument.

And all cars have faces. Even my ugly Landrover Disco.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 05/12/2012 22:04

If DH manages to park in front of me, the two cars facing then that makes me really really happy. I like to think of the cars out there chatting.

Hahaha loving this thread, especially the poppers gang bit!!!

Morloth · 06/12/2012 01:33

Our SATNAV lady is called 'Stupid Bitch' or if the kids are with us 'Crazy Lady'.

VisualiseAHorse · 06/12/2012 07:47

That poor Satnav Lady.
