Horrific stories on Mail Online

i started reading Mail Online for showbiz and gossip when it first started, but now have noticed more and more often, stories they publish are now of child abuse and animal abuse. I have complained to the editors, but they do not respond. Today on MO there was a horrific story of a pedophile bringing a 15 month old baby he had abused, into hospital as she was dying. I was horrified at this, and why Mail Online would publish this, thinking we want to read stuff like this?.. I have written to 'Feedback' on MO to complain about the distressing articles they keep publishing, but they won't respond... What can I do? I suppose one option is to stop reading MO.

And OP , I think you'll probably find that some people do which is what makes it a popular newspaper. We need to know what is going on in the world, there's no point kiddy blocking everything just because you find it distressing. Writing to them will do nothing I'm afraid.

No-one is forcing you to read, so don't.

It's the first website I go to, so I'll just have to wean myself off it, or use Kitten Block. Glad that posters have been feeling the same about the website as I have done.

I used to buy Take a Break magazine, finding it quite entertaining, but then I went to buy it one day over the summer and on the front page, stories about child abuse and rape were advertised and I thought "What sort of person wants to read about that? Not me." and I've never bought it since.

Mingebiscuits yes I know it happens, and im not pretending it doesnt, but it shouldn't be on the same page as showbiz gossip, ie which the Mail Online was originally, for people to come across when looking at gossip

If you actively seek out 'gossip' in these rags...which usually amounts to a load of sensationalist lies about people's personal lives, why are you offended when they sensationalise other stories too?

Every time you read that paper (and it's entirely your choice to do so) you add to the profit it makes...therefore helping it to continue to print what you're saying you don't like.

So yes, stop reading it if you don't like it.

Glad it isn't just me. i know these things happen but it is the graphic photos also accompanying the article and often on the front page is just too much.

i have complained about this as these images should not be so accessible or without warnings but did not get a response.

Maybe i need to find another sleb gossip site any suggestions?

RIP little one. I live in Northern Ireland so this arrest, and trial, has been on the news for some time.
Just because you are in a different part of the uk does not mean that this man does not need the publicity he has received.
He has been found guilty.
He said it it was the child's mother.

it scares me so much, that title life. I was asking to a social workers today actually, she said many times they would like to remove children earlier but it they can only do so with a judicial decision. she said it can be frustrating.

It is really in the public interest to have the hospital CCTV footage available to view? I have not viewed it and think including it in the report is sensationalist and insensitive.

I expect no response.

I was pro BBC in the discussion the other week though.

I hate the Daily Mail and I agree it was very unnecessary of them (and other papers/websites) to publish the CCTV images of Barry McCarney "trying to resuscitate" Millie Martin.

However, are you saying that cases of sexual abuse and murder of toddlers should not be reported in the media OP, because it distresses you?! This horrific and unspeakably sad case happened near me. If it had happened near you would you think differently?

The BBC website has four videos, including one just of the CCTV of the dying child being brought into the hospital, and three articles on this story:

I see the BBC has not included the cctv shot of the murderer supposedly trying to resuscitate Millie, which the DM has. It is the most upsetting image by far imo and was plastered all over tabloid-type sites like the DMs and described distastefully in headlines.

It's real life. If you want to ignore it, ignore it. The Mail can put it wherever it wants to and it's jolly good that it does cover these stories. If you want to pretend real life is about Kim Kardashian's butt go ahead.

I live in NI, this awful, sad story has been in the news here for some months, and the CCTV footage was shown on the tea time news here last night. It is very distressing, and tbh I don't think it was particularly necessary to show it, but the story NEEDS reporting, and for once the DM hasn't done anything wrong IMO.

And I think there's something odd about wanting to read 'showbiz and gossip' and stick your head in the sand when it comes to what actually goes on in the real world. That poor little girl shouldn't be forgotten or what happen swept under the carpet in favour of Chezza Coles new hairdo.

Yes it should be reported. Factually and without sensationalism. That CCTV is horrific and should not be on the BBC website or anywhere else. The police should not have released it. The facts would be enough. What does it add to the horror of it? On the BBC report it says the mother "Sobbed uncontrollably" as the verdict was announced. Not necessary. We don't need to know that. All we need to know is that he is locked up.
I never read the Mail, online or otherwise. That story makes me understand why. The people I know who read it always seem so full of hate. I am now so full of hate towards that man that if he was in front of me right now I could kill him with my bare hands. I don't need to feel that way every day.

I feel the same. Twice this week I have been upset to the point of near suicide by things I have seen and read on the DM. They go too far.

I bet they think, "we have a winning formula - lets keep doing more of the same, and dial it all up too"
