Horrific stories on Mail Online

i started reading Mail Online for showbiz and gossip when it first started, but now have noticed more and more often, stories they publish are now of child abuse and animal abuse. I have complained to the editors, but they do not respond. Today on MO there was a horrific story of a pedophile bringing a 15 month old baby he had abused, into hospital as she was dying. I was horrified at this, and why Mail Online would publish this, thinking we want to read stuff like this?.. I have written to 'Feedback' on MO to complain about the distressing articles they keep publishing, but they won't respond... What can I do? I suppose one option is to stop reading MO.

Marcheline, if a newspaper article can drive you to suicide, please consider getting some help. Obviously something has you so tense that a news story can push you over the edge. Please talk to someone. Look after yourself.

No, I won't, Fanjo. But the point is that the way they cover stories is so upsetting. I am not a particularly sensitive or emotional person, so for me to be so upset by something... seriously, they need to report things responsibly, not just go for the most sensationalist angle.

The video was used by most online news outlets. If you're that sensitive then best you don't read any newspapers or look at any websites.

I stumbled across that article while idly browsing last night. I burst into tears and cried for 15 minutes, then went and got in bed beside DD

It's the Daily Fail and we all know it's a disgusting sensationalist ad but this seems like a new low to me. That poor wee darling.

Might be because I'm from that part of the world too. Broke my heart

Oh god ive just read that story, poor poor little baby.
I just wish we could do anything to make sure that no baby ever suffers like this, i would give my life if it meant no baby went through any pain again.
I just don't know if reading it helps anyone?
Also were the fuck was her mum? She had obviously been left alone with this monster, yet her mum had only been with him a few months.
The mum should be in prison a as well, this is neglect. How did her mum not know she had such severe injuries? Evil bitch.

Those pictures haunted me last night. This morning the story is top of the page...last night it was smaller and lower down. My DH goes mad that I read mail online .. So depressing. I also like the showbiz but I can't bear this current story and the pictures of a helpless Lo.

Bellarose2011 the mum was tried but cleared of neglect. It's possible she was also abused by this 'man' as it sounds like he deliberately targeted her in order to get to her daughter. So, so sad for the little girl.

Re the Mail, I think stories like this do need to be reported but it can be done in a sensitive and serious manner and splashing them across the MO front page complete with clips from the (very disturbing) cctv is not the way to do it imo.

The judge has given him life but they won't decide exactly how long that will be until the new year . Hopefully they will never let him out.

I study Criminal Behaviour as part of my degree, the stories I have to read and the treatment/interviews/details etc are pretty harrowing, but to the point of suicide?!

I find I can 'switch off' from some of it, however, certain times of the month I find it harder to distance myself. I have a 4 year old DD and reading some stories that involve children her age is particularly difficult during these times of the month.

The stories are sensational, however, THEY HAPPEN. These things happen, it's horrible, harrowing and heartbreaking.

These stories do need to be heard imo. Yes the DM adds it's own lovely slant to them, but they need to be out there so people are aware.

If you don't like it, don't read it. But you can't stop papers publishing these stories, and absolutely you shouldn't be able to.

Go to a different site.

Everyone knows they happen HairyGrotter and no-one is saying that they should not be reported. But it is the lurid graphic headlines, with accompanying video clips, that I think people are protesting about on this thread.

Hence my comment about them being reported in a sensationalist way, I, like many others, completely agree that these stories should be reported in a factual manner and not to be salacious, however, that's unlikely to happen. Facts don't seem to sell papers, or stop people reading these stories.

Yes, it's less about this particular story and more about all those ones which say "Warning: graphic content". They are usually about torture of people or animals.

I never click on them, and I wonder about people who do.

You need to stop reading the DM, because by clicking on these same stories you are contributing to the site's traffic, and thus reinforcing the message that people like reading vile, sensationalised stories about torture and abuse. The DM doesn't care whether or not you like the stories, as long as you keep reading them. By coming back, you just boost the circulation stats along with all the rubberneckers who try to make themselves feel a bit less grubby by posting 'isn't it terrible' comments under the photos.

It would be different if you were finding out about these things through the NSPCC, or Amnesty, or Oxfam, or some other organisation that actually cares about making a difference. The DM doesn't. They seek out these stories because it pays - very well - and they don't care about the indignity caused to the victims, or the grief suffered by families who've been doorstepped.

You say you want to make a difference. For the reasons I've given, stopping reading the DM will make a very small difference. If you want to make a bigger difference, read a paper that reports news in a more balanced, respectful way and work out what issues cause you most concern. There will almost certainly be a charity for whatever you choose, and even if you can only afford to give £1 a month it will be something. I support Wateraid, Stepping Stones and Amnesty. Since reading the below story (warning, upsetting), I will also be supporting Medical Aid for Palestinians. Hope that helps.

stories like this are very upsetting, but I dont think their reporting was salacious. they told of a terrible incident, thats all. its the news

this american website is pretty fucking upsetting, and i think DM get stories from here badbreeders.net/

I used to get incedibly upset by these stories, now sadly I have accepted its part of life. unfortunately

Its not that i dont care, I do. I have sadly realised this shit is actually quite common

There is reporting on horrific stories and then there is sensationalising them into entertainment.

The monster need to be dragged into the light. They don't need disco balls and flashes.
