We have a new learner dog staying, and he never met cats before,

For the last hour, he has been circling our cat who has been sitting in the middle of the floor in a sun beam resting from rat killing duty, getting more and more invasive, she gave him a couple of gentle taps, but he didn't get the message not to disturb her afternoon meditation,

He put his face right up to hers,so she just gave him a mighty whack across the face, she went straight back to sleep sitting bolt up right, he screamed, ran and he is now trying to work out how to move around the house without going near the dangerous feline.

all the other dogs gave him a told you so look and are trying to look invisible.

He's in for a shock tonight when he finds out she is in charge of the dog's bed.

It also works wonders against cats! I had a very small dwarf rabbit (think palm of the hand size) and a cat. Rabbits had free run of the garden, cat decided rabbit looked interesting and was stalking with intent. I was watching ready to scare cat off, tiny rabbit turned round, growled and boxed cat on the nose. Cat is still scared of rabbits (and guinea pigs just in case) 11 years later! I think the rabbit may have been descended from the one in monty python.

Here I was all set to hoist judgey pants..
Cats rule the universe..my youngest DD was also on the receiving end of a smart slap, when she went by and tugged on our alpha male cat's tail..she screamed in indignation, but has not tried that behaviour with our felines again..

steppemum · 03/12/2012 16:10

roger - my cat tries to bat the rabbits and they just sit there. they don't even notice, don't move, get out of the way. if I didn't chase him off, they would let him eat them for dinner
(stupid, stupid rabbits)

rogersmellyonthetelly · 03/12/2012 16:35

Yeah the other rabbits never bothered either but this one rabbit I think had small man syndrome. He had a point to make to anyone and everyone in range ;0)

When i read the title I was thinking that I wouldn't use a slap on a child but have definitely been tempted at times in work.

piglettsmummy · 03/12/2012 16:42

When I had a puppy we used one sharp snack down on her nose! It defiantly worked x

My cat used to beat up my sisters Labrador every time he came over. He just wanted to love her. (he lives with 4 cats and thinks he is one Grin ) She used to whack him straight across the chops every time Sad (once she actually punched him, well, it looked for all the world like an actual punch anyway!) and the even more sad thing is he used to go to her the next time to say hi and hoping for a snuggle. Every time. He never learned and he just kept trying to be friends.

thanks,

cat is now sitting in the doorway washing herself that divides the house, I and all the dogs except new learner dog are sat this side, and new learner dog is sat waiting patiently for the cat to let him past.

he learning fast, If he had come and sat down when told earlier, he wouldn't be separated from the pack,

she (cat) keeps making like she might move, then noticing that another part of her body needs a good wash,

she really enjoys teaching new dogs their manners.

we are off up the fields in a moment where he going to learn all about standing still next to sheep.

quoteunquote, want to borrow my dog and teach him to behave around sheep!? and horses and swans.

He is good though and is scared of my black cat, but will chase any other cats unless they too are black, then he is scared in case it is OUR cat

dexter73 · 03/12/2012 16:52

When we got our kitten many years ago we got her home and tried to introduce us to our large lurcher cross dog. Considering she was about the size of one of his paws we were very surprised when she arched her back and swiped at him! He looked like this Confused , kept his distance from her for a couple of days and then they became best friends!

HullyEastergully · 03/12/2012 16:54

oh dear op

how ill-judged

KaraStarbuckThrace · 03/12/2012 16:55

My mum's cat used to terrorise the next door's neighbours Lab who was about 10x her size. He was as soft as shite though and she was a mean cat!

foxy6 · 03/12/2012 17:14

Lovely tail of feline dominance. My 2 ginger told give the dogs 2 staffies a wide birth as the dogs are always chasing them and I was a bit nervous when we got our kittens 2 weeks ago because of the chasing, but I didn't need to worry the 1 kitten ran and hid the other stood her ground arched her back and hissed at the dogs. They ran scared of a 8 week old kitten
