We have a new learner dog staying, and he never met cats before,

For the last hour, he has been circling our cat who has been sitting in the middle of the floor in a sun beam resting from rat killing duty, getting more and more invasive, she gave him a couple of gentle taps, but he didn't get the message not to disturb her afternoon meditation,

He put his face right up to hers,so she just gave him a mighty whack across the face, she went straight back to sleep sitting bolt up right, he screamed, ran and he is now trying to work out how to move around the house without going near the dangerous feline.

all the other dogs gave him a told you so look and are trying to look invisible.

He's in for a shock tonight when he finds out she is in charge of the dog's bed.

Can't say I like your thread title

GoldQuintessenceAndMyhrr · 03/12/2012 14:23

Hmm Provocative title on purpose?

tinierclanger · 03/12/2012 14:23

Did you think you were being funny? It didn't work.

quoteunquote · 03/12/2012 14:24

sorry, I just thought it interesting that something so unacceptable in human communication, was so well used in the animal world.

Very funny, but better in The Doghouse/Litter Tray I think.

GoldQuintessenceAndMyhrr · 03/12/2012 14:26

It is well used in the human world too. It does not make it acceptable.
And as a heading on a forum where many users are victims of domestic violence, it is ill judged at best.

FrostyTheSnowSlut · 03/12/2012 14:27

Sometimes its a slap needed sometimes its a hug. Cats are quite good at working out the right prescription.

hopkinette · 03/12/2012 14:27

Is this a funny story?

Proudnscaryvirginmary · 03/12/2012 14:27

Why 'lighten up' when it's not funny, Shuffle? Attention seeking and stupid.

quoteunquote · 03/12/2012 14:33

It's a joke, sorry, if it offends, just watching the cat teach a dog manners, in a way that we wouldn't. I wouldn't even hit a dog, but I wouldn't stop a cat doing it.

Oh dear.

Poor dog.

I do think your title was a bit, well, ill advised. But I can totally see where you're coming from re the cat.

quoteunquote · 03/12/2012 14:43

we have one long dog bed all of them sleep in it, (usually about eight), the cat sits in it, she lets them in one by one, depending on how respectful they are, usually a new dog has to wait,

she then sleeps on top of which ever dog is warmest.

tittytittyhanghang · 03/12/2012 14:47

I thought it was funny, provocative maybe, but nonetheless funny. Anyway this isn't a dv forum, if op wishes to share her story I dont see why she should be chased away to the dog section.

steppemum · 03/12/2012 14:53

quote - your cat sounds hilarious, I think there is a fortune in You've been framed videos waiting to be recorded at your house!

DreamingOfTheMaldives · 03/12/2012 14:55

OP - title aside, you made me smile because this is exactly what happens with my dog when we go to visit my Mum. He spends his time going up to the cats looking at them while the sleep and they get annoyed at him so give him a clout. He then refuses to walk past them because he thinks they're going to get him. He even lets them pinch his dinner and get in his bed - he just looks at me as if to say "Mum, tell them!" I have to rescue him from the cats - he really is a pathetic pooch!

I had to laugh the other day when before I had to chance to grab him, my dog ran after the neighbour's cat, barking at it - the cat didn't move a muscle, even when he got really close to it. The cat wasn't in the least bit bothered by him and my dog had no idea what to do with a cat that wouldn't run so he just walked back to me looking rather sheepish.

tittytittyhanghang · 03/12/2012 15:10

I once watched my ds and the cat have a rather petty fisticuff fight! Despite being told and moved half a dozen times ds would not leave the cat alone who was sitting on the windowsill behind the blinds. The cat started it and took a single swipe at ds, who took a single swipe back. Then for about 10 secs, before ds conceded defeat and decided to move swiftly on! Must say that ds hasn't really bothered the cat since then!

tittytittyhanghang · 03/12/2012 15:12

Doh, that should read this went on for about 10 secs with the cat and ds, looked like they were pushing each others hands out the way!

SantaWearsGreen · 03/12/2012 15:23

I dislike dogs with a passion, I am a cat person all day long. So I find it mildly amusing when cats beat dogs up, especially when its a big dog and small cat. That is funny.

I had a cat and a rat. It was like Tom and Jerry, except the cat was running away from the rat. Funny.

StrawberriesTasteLikeLipsDo · 03/12/2012 15:30

Well I found it amusing OP, im sure the dog wont be traumatised and I have to say, you cant post anything on here these days without offending someone linking a cat biffing a dog to DV triggering? To quote lethal weapon.. "Thats thin, reeeal thin"

Lonecatwithkitten · 03/12/2012 15:31

They don't all learn. The mobile mop believes that cats waving paws in an invitation to play. He has been smacked across the nose more times than I can remember blood has been drawn on several occasions still he keeps coming back for more.

whois · 03/12/2012 15:39

Lighten up people, it's a funny story about a car and dog.

Many years ago our friends bought round their huge dog. Our ginger car took exception to the dog being in our garden and properly went for the poor dog who didn't really know what to do!

StripyMagicDragon · 03/12/2012 15:43

haha, sounds exactly like my mum's cat when the puppy of doom was introduced. now puppy is the cat's evil minion.
I like your cat's attitude, choosing the warmest dog :-)
