To use men's deodorant instead of women's?

I am of a certain age(47)and am having copious bloody hot flushes ALL the time lately. The only deodorant I like really is the stick-type one....Dove do a really nice one and the Mitchum one is good but its really expensive and they dont last very long. I hate the sprays and the roll-ons take too long to dry and feel sticky and icky.
So,when shopping a few days ago, I noticed that the lynx stick-type ones are much cheaper and are much bigger in sizeXmas Shock. I bought one and have been using it with satisfactory results since friday.
My question is this-is it ok to continue using mens deod.or is it possible they use stronger/more harmful chemicals in the mens ones?
I must say I quite like the smell of the mens ones actuallyXmas Grin.

i like the bionsen one. it is like a stick. hate the cloying smell of most women's scents. this one smells of the sea :p or how the sea ought to smell.

StaceeJaxx · 03/12/2012 13:14

I'd say it was fine. I always nick a bit of DH's deodorant when I run out. DSD has been using men's deodorant since she was 15, she prefers it.

squeakytoy · 03/12/2012 13:15

some women sweat more than men, some men sweat more than women, I doubt it matters which gender wear a deodorant..

my husband has been using womens anti-perspirant for years simple because the only one that is unscented and doesnt leave white marks or stain clothes is Right Guard.

Mu1berries · 03/12/2012 13:16

which lynx one do you use? i know people might laugh at lynx (i have myself) but just out of interest, which one were you using/ i like fresh unisex smells. inis and ck one are the only scents i like. oh and m7s do one called Iris which is fresh and not too hard on my nerves.

Mu1berries · 03/12/2012 13:17

ps, i know what you mean about roll ons taking too long to dry. I hate standing there in my freeeeezing cold house with my arms in the air waiting for roll on to dry. I'm a busy woman and I 'm a cold busy woman!

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 03/12/2012 13:18

my dh uses a womans ones. he gets irritated by an ingredient in the normal ones so uses this one with no issues. i used to use mens deodorant all the time, but now use tesco value roll on. i dont think it really metters.

valiumredhead · 03/12/2012 13:22

Ds has been pretty whiffy lately but the Lynx stick has sorted him out a treat.

TheNightwearBeforeChristmas · 03/12/2012 13:23

YANBU.

I sometimes nick DH's roll on, it smells much better IMO. :)

Mu1berries · 03/12/2012 13:29

are any of the lynx scents unisex? the way they are advertised you would expect essence of cave man, eau de body builder, parfum de player

any that smell of the ocean?! :-|

ChunkyPickle · 03/12/2012 13:33

The only difference I ever found was that many mens ones (rollon/spray) sting like hell on a freshly shaved armpit - I'm guessing they still use alcohol in them or something...

Can't imagine that there's any difference at all with the solid ones.

Jinglegirl · 03/12/2012 14:07

Mu1berries its Lynx Africa . Thanks for all the replies ladies. On the strength of this I shall continue to use the mens ones.

It might give you "the lynx effect".

Jinglegirl · 03/12/2012 17:30

I use lynx africa as well, for some reason my skin doesn't tolerate roll ons any more, and lynx africa is the most obvious and reasonably priced option.

noisytoys · 03/12/2012 23:24

I use men's Mitchum stick always have used men's deodorant. I shave my legs with a Mach 3 too men's razors work better than women's

BackforGood · 03/12/2012 23:31

Of course YANBU. The are effective, and usually cheaper. I always use a "mans" one now, but it's my teenage niece who put me on to it, so it's not just an age thing, just a money saving one.

Mu1berries · 04/12/2012 14:45

thanks jingle, i'm going to buy that later... !

wannabedomesticgoddess · 04/12/2012 14:52

DP uses my deodorant sometimes when hes ran out of his.

He smells vair naice :o

WildWoodFlower · 04/12/2012 14:55

I'm a big fan of MUM deodorant especially the non perfumed one which i consider to be uni sex.I've often wondered why they target just the mums with such a name for a product because i'm sure many dads/men like this product

trikken · 04/12/2012 14:55

I prefer the smell of mens. i have been known to buy them instead of ladies.

Onemoreforgoodmeasure · 04/12/2012 14:57

I will give this a go, thanks OP! I hate the smell of women's ones and I struggle to find one strong enough. I currently use an unscented gender neutral one I found in the states and have been wondering what do to when it runs out! Which, btw, takes ages. I bought two sticks, 13 months ago and am still on the second stick!

Onemoreforgoodmeasure · 04/12/2012 15:00

OMG, just googled it and it can be bought from amazon for £5. "Arm & Hammer Ultra Max antiperspirant deodorant invisible solid unscented". May it bring you years of unscented and stink free happiness.

Onemoreforgoodmeasure · 04/12/2012 15:01

for two!

MackerelOfFact · 04/12/2012 15:02

Men's deodorants stink! They are cheaper though, as are men's razors and shaving gel. I do sometimes use men's shaving stuff (only if it's unscented or aloe vera or something) at a push but I'd never use the deodorant. In fact I had a Radox one that was in fairly girly packaging but smelt vair manly so I threw it out as it was making me gag.

WildWoodFlower · 04/12/2012 15:06

My brother never used to like wearing anti perspirant becaus ehe though it was un natural to block the sweat pores up with anti-p.He didn't mind going around smelling like a bag of onions .But we managed to show hime the correct way as he was minging tbh
