Just that really.

Just forced myself to stop yesterday, I could go on buying them things forever. Have spent about (approx) £60 on each stocking and about £100 on their main presents - 2 children.

It all seems to add up
I have no idea how you spend just £30-50.
I think I have spent about £250, incl pjs, Xmas undies and socks Blush and I could easily add another £200 onto that with a scooter/skateboard, couple of games and dinosaur things he has asked for.

mrsEbruce - I have no quibble with the amount you spend, that is up to you. But I think it is a bizarre thing to be 'proud' of.

Everyone should spend what they think is appropriate for them, their kids and their finances. Some people on this thread have shown a stunning lack of empathy though.

rhonda - it gets more expensive, if you have the funds to allow that to happen. If you don't, then it stays the same or even has to become cheaper.

We've spent alot this year and I'm not ashamed to say it. I started Christmas shopping in August and found a couple of much wanted nearly new bargains so no debt to pay off in January. (Just finished the Christmas shopping Xmas Grin
Me &DH lived hand to mouth for so many years when our older 2 were smaller and really struggled to afford anything for Christmas, one memorable year the only reason we had Christmas dinner was because we went to family for it...
In fact we stopped buying each other presents in order to spend money on the DC's. This is the first year that we've been more or less financially comfortable and we're having a huuuge Christmas! Family and friends will be coming to us, loads of presents will be exchanged and for the first time in 12 years I don't feel stressed or anxious about anything, so we're in the mood to celebrate.
That comes across so much like the Monty Python 'we were so poor' sketch I know but thats how it was.

Nice one jingle hope you have a blinder!

I have got the kids some ACE presents this year, most of them though are pre-loved!! so DS gets his gadgets without me needing a mortgage, I have no idea how much I've spent on them, probably £100 but that's definitely it for them :) I think if you start early enough, you don't have to pay over the odds, but it doesn't matter at the end of the day, they all end up tripping me up for the rest of the year!
Have a brilliant Christmas everyone! I can't wait Xmas Grin

No-one is trying to burn anyone. Confused Happy that you can make your kids so happy, yes - but proud? Just seems a weird emotion to have.

£50-£70 on dc but they also get lots from family. We ask for clothes and money if people want to buy them things as they have so many toys it's crazy.

I am another who's child has gifts only from F Xmas and we two parents. I don't even add it up, I just sort of buy things until it looks like a nice amount. We don't do a "main present" though so it's not as bad as it seems.

My two love torches! And they were only £3!
Bargain :)
Got ds2 lots of little arty crafty bits like paper, pens, water colour paint tin etc.
Nothing they have was more than £30 but there are lots of little things this year.
Ds2 also has chocolate coins in his stocking which ds1 doesn't like.
Also managed to get him sme rare Thomas engines from e bay for 99p! Was delighted :)
Have a lovey Xmas everyone x

I am in awe of you bargain shoppers. I just bought two toys for the local toy appeal and that cost me just over £20. Getting the lot for a child for £30-40 is fab!

Report
Badvocsanta · 05/12/2012 15:41

Ah, you see I start in sept with the amazon sale :) and also use e bay for hard to find/rare stuff.
I haven't paid full price for anything!
The debenhams SAle was good this year. Less than half price on most toys.

I am a head-in-the-sand person when it comes to Xmas spending. I know it's too much (although much less than last year) in terms of what we can comfortably afford. It's been a difficult couple of years... so, fuck it. Xmas Grin

I have spent 50 quid on dd (3). A little ladybird dressing up dress and red patent shoes to match. A book about fairies, beautifully illustrated and a Brave jigsaw.

Ds (6) presents will come to about the same.

We go to mils for xmas and she gets them loads, spoils them rotten. So we don't go mad and save some money to do a nice concert and fun stuff over the holidays.
