To write to the school about these disgusting graffiti/doodles inside toilet cubicles

Dd attends an out of school activity on a Saturday morning in another school. It is a secondary school.

Today she wanted to use the loos before we left so I took her in and waited outside the cubicle.

She is 5 years old and has recently started "sounding out the words" and can read a lot of easy 3-4 letter words. She gets really proud when she reads something and so do I. Except for today.

On the cubicle walls someone had written sex, fuck, gay fucker, sexy gay....just an endless amount of the word "sex" combined with other terms. As dd was doing her business she sounded out the word and said "sex". When I told her to quieten down she said it again and asked me why I'm telling her to be quiet.

Now I know sex isn't a swear word, but it's not something I want to talk to my 5 year old about yet. Ofcourse I will talk to her openly about these things when she's older, but at 5 she is too young. I'm really angry. I don't know why. But I am. I suppose I'm angry because my innocent little pfb read something that shouldn't have been there.

My DH thinks I should phone up the school and tell them to clean it. Part of me thinks We're overreacting. Any views on this?

In our school we never had this kind of problem. Pictures and graffiti were removed quickly. Infact I can't remember ever seeing a picture of a penis drawn on a wall in our school. Maybe because it was a girls only school? I don't know.

There were plenty of graffiti penises drawn on the walls and blackboards at my girls only convent school in the 70s.

You mean there are secondary school toilets without rude graffiti? Shock? Seriously, they would've had to employ someone 24/7 to sort out the graffiti in my old shitty comp of a school.

PS This is one of those threads where it hits me what sheltered lives some people on MN lead. Surely its obvious that teenagers + toilet =crude pictures of genitals?

Well I've had no reply. If that was my school I'd be mortified if someone emailed about the filthy graffiti on the walls. They obviously don't give a shit.

Did you email the head? If so it will have gone to his PA, who will then farm it out to the correct area. I think it is a bit soon to assume they aren't bothered.

Fakebook · 03/12/2012 18:30

I sent it to the school email address. I hope you're right what.

The school email on our website goes to the Head's PA, who would then forward on to the correct person, so I would give them longer to deal with this.

DD is 4, has recently been learning phonics, she eloquently spelled out the word 'fuck' the other day having seen it written on a wall when walking into town. I laughed and congratulated her on her spelling, but explained it's not a good word to be throwing about at her age.

Fair play on emailing, wonder if they will manage to get it off haha

You need to give the head longer than a few hours to reply to something - they have a school to run.
