AIBU to say I'm having blonde moment when I'm actually brunette?

I'm brunette , but did say today after I forgot something 'Oh I'm having a blonde moment'

Does this mean I'm 'blondist' and think blondes are less clever than brunettes?

The associations of hair colour I have are

a) Blondes are a bit ditzy and not very clever

b) Brunettes are the epitome of intelligence

c) Redheads could start a fight in an empty room

Does your natural hair colour really have a bearing on your personalty??

No. And yabu. Hmm

bradywasmyfavouriteking · 28/11/2012 22:54

YABU and I don't think it does have any baring on personality.

I am brunette and can start a fight when locked in a room on my own.

defineme · 28/11/2012 22:59

Is this a joke?
You must be, but...

I heard a man say to his very young blonde dd that she was having a blonde moment when she'd forgotten her bag-made me want to cry.

Bullying of red heads is prolific and there are well documented cases of it ending in violence/families hounded out of town.

Saying you're having a blonde moment is the thin end of the wedge imho.

exexpat · 28/11/2012 23:00

YABU. Why would you perpetuate the 'blondes are stupid' stereotype? It's a lazy, usually misogynistic (how often do people say it about blond men?) way of thing. Yuck.

(And yes, I am blonde-ish, and I have a first class degree from Cambridge)

SarkyWench · 28/11/2012 23:01

What do you call a blonde who dyes her hair brown?

Artificial Intelligence!

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 28/11/2012 23:05

sarky Grin

RonnyJotten · 28/11/2012 23:07

no it's not a joke ...and I don't know if it has any baring on personality, hence me asking

I am simply saying I said 'I had a blonde moment' which I obviously didn't because I'm brunette.

I just a bit Confused about why I thought that that was ok to say?

I do think society judges on hair colour

I'm happy making blonde jokes in the company of most people I know because I know that the stereotype is seen as so ludicrous that it is ok to joke about.

I wouldn't do ginger jokes though because bullying of red heads is still rife.

squoosh · 28/11/2012 23:12

A work colleague yesterday told me she was having a blonde moment. She is a not particularly bright brunette. I bit my tongue but did think 'Darling you'd be stupid no matter what your hair colouring'.

SarkyWench · 28/11/2012 23:14

Oh it goes without saying that you can only make blonde jokes if you are a super intelligent (and deluded) blonde.

MumOfTheMoos · 28/11/2012 23:18

I'm a. At urial blonde and this sort of thing really bugs me - its just plain misogynistic. When I was in my early 20's (20 years ago now Smile) I had a t-shirt that said 'I'm a natural blonde, please speak slowly'. It was of course worn with heavy sarcasm but I've always hated the' blonde moment' thing.

CoolaSchmoola · 28/11/2012 23:18

squoosh - love it!

I am blonde and don't actually mind the stereo type that much. Probably because I love it when people make the fatal mistake of thinking I'm stupid just because I happen to be blonde.

squoosh · 28/11/2012 23:18

Every few months Marie Claire or one of those magazines will recycle their blonde v brunette debate.

Hilary Clinton (blonde) v Kelly Brook (brunette)
Chantelle Houghton (blonde) v Simone de Beauvoir (brunette)

It's a very tired, very worn cliché.

Go to Denmark and tell them they're a 'ditzy' people.

ginhag · 28/11/2012 23:19

Yes making 'blondes are stoopid' remarks are absolutely a-okay with me.

As long as you don't mind me forever thinking of you as a dismal, reductive cunt

MumOfTheMoos · 28/11/2012 23:21

CoolaSchmoola - that is one of the great advantages of bring blonde, having the upper hand as you are so often underestimatedWink- however, I fear it doesn't outweigh the out and out prejudice.

ginhag · 28/11/2012 23:22

Oh sorry, I should have checked really..

Did I spell 'dismal, reductive cunt' right? I am awfully slow y'know.

AndiMac · 28/11/2012 23:23

May I suggest the phrase "brain fart" next time you forget something?

"Oh, what's the name of that fellow on that show? I can't remember, I'm having a brain fart."

Less blondist.

SkaffenAmtiskaw · 28/11/2012 23:24

Try being blonde with big boobs!

OP, YABU

SarkyWench · 28/11/2012 23:25

Fecking hell.
So you people know people who actually believe this tripe and so there is reason to be offended.

It just wouldn't occur to me to take offence is it so patently a crock of shit.

SarkyWench · 28/11/2012 23:26

Skaffen
I've tried that. For about 25 years :)

ginhag · 28/11/2012 23:26

Also. It would be 'bearing' on personality

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 28/11/2012 23:26

OP, do fair haired men ever say this about themselves? No? That's a good rule of thumb that it might be sexist.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 28/11/2012 23:27

I love dismal reductive cunt. Might bagsy that for next name change.

SarkyWench · 28/11/2012 23:28

DH has frequent blonde moments.
But even more grey ones.
I comment on then both in equal measure.

SkaffenAmtiskaw · 28/11/2012 23:28

Sarky Grin

I've never really taken offence at blonde jokes, but it does get wearing to be so stereotyped...

Brain fart is much better!
