Nuskin friend, ISBU?

DialsMavis · 28/11/2012 13:38

An old school friend has just contacted me to try and get me to join her selling Nuskin products. I have done a quick search and read the links she sent me and it seems to be pyramid selling and all a little too good to be true?
So, my questions are: is it actually the answer to my prayers and the way to being filthy rich?
If it's all bollocks, do you think she knows?
Because if she doesn't then I hope she doesn't lose £ herself, or if she does then does that make her a bit of a cow for trying to get me involved and to then make £ from me?

Is she an old friend you kept in contact with, or has she just contacted you because of this?

These things are all crap - those you try to sell to will be suspicious as best and resent you at worst. If it's too good to be true then it probably is.

If I were you I'd ignore the whole sorry thing.

DialsMavis · 28/11/2012 13:46

Oh I am going to ignore it, just wondering If I should say something to warn her. We see each other a few times a year at weddings, hen do's, Comment on each others FB photos etc. She contacted me as she knows I am unemployed and struggling financially, I'm just trying to work out if it was done with good intentions or not. We are not close at all, but I do really like her and some of my close friends are her close friends IYSWIM

is this basically like avon? because i know a few people who do avon and their friends and family all got pretty bored with it really quickly and didn't order after the first "i'll humour her" order. i wouldn't do it.

DialsMavis · 28/11/2012 13:47

I think you sell the products and recruit other sellers.... sounds so dodgy, but she is so nice.

You get younger?

Wow.

This product is clearly MAGIC and everyone should know about it.

Hmm
PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 29/11/2012 09:16

Trust your instincts - if it smells dodgy, don't touch it. if nothing else, selling stuff to your friends involves a certain presumption that they're happy for the relationship to change from social to business. Personally, i reckon you'd be better off making cards/jewellery/birthday cakes/party bags to sell - stuff people want anyway. That way, you retain control and can sell to strangers via facebook etc instead of pressuring your mates :)

WiseKneeHair · 29/11/2012 09:18

Ah well. Listen to notmummy and run a mile

WiseKneeHair · 29/11/2012 09:19

notmum even

plantsitter · 29/11/2012 09:19

Direct her to this thread. Notmum75's post should convince her it's all a load of bollocks if she didn't know already.

hazleweatherfieldgirldetective · 29/11/2012 09:23

Interesting first post there notmum75 ...

RooneyMara · 29/11/2012 09:27

I think Notmum ought to get some kind of award for the most counterproductive post EVER Grin

OP - your friend's probably been sucked in and has generally good intentions, but you should definitely say no.

OlaRapaceFru · 29/11/2012 09:27

I was going to say that too, hazle!

DialsMavis you said you're unemployed and struggling financially; presumably there's some financial input needed from you at the start? TBH, it sounds a recipe for disaster.

whois · 29/11/2012 10:11

notmum75 ha ha hardy ha!

Fakebook · 29/11/2012 10:14

Judging by notmum75's post, they sound like a brainwashed cult. Run. Run for your life.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 29/11/2012 10:16

Some relatives of mine are biiiiig in to this. Every FB status is about how amazing the product is etc. I politely ignore all references and continue to be happy in my old, crappy skin.

DialsMavis · 29/11/2012 10:21

Every blog post I have searched has the same comments, like the evangelical ones above, it's like when people post about Steiner schools on here! They must have a crack team of people ready to leave these comments. I hope they haven't found out where I live from my I.P address

So it seems I am right to steer well clear of the whole thing, but maybe friend did suggest it out of good intentions.

RooneyMara · 29/11/2012 10:23

I only clicked to find out what your titlewas supposed to say...the word 'nuskin' didn't register to me, I was imagining it rhymed with 'Ruskin' Hmm

So it's a 'beauty' thing? Even more likely to be shite, imo.

DialsMavis · 29/11/2012 10:25

They have unlocked the key to ageing via intensive gene research Wink

OP posts:
Pilgit · 29/11/2012 10:34

I've known people do similar things. The ones that 'work' are things like Avon, pampered chef and phoenix cards. This is because they offer a wide range of products at a wide range of prices and have a bit wider appeal than just fancy face cream. However they only work if you are prepared to put in a lot of hard slog getting your own selling business going.

Fakebook · 29/11/2012 13:09

Ohhhh it's actually NU SKIN, as in NEW SKIN. I thought it rhymed with Ruskin too. I'd avoid them just for spelling "new" as "NU".

Pancakeflipper · 29/11/2012 13:43

Oh it's a cult.

monsterchild · 29/11/2012 13:44

Its a pyramid scheme. If you love selling and are in on it early you can do ok. Like the first 5 people. After that, because your income mainly relies on you getting other people to get other people to sell for you, you run out of bottoms to pay upward.

Someone will indeed get rich. It probably won't be you.

Don't be surprised if, when you turn her down, she gets a bit distant....

junowiththegladrags · 29/11/2012 13:45

Well thanks for that DrDave, now that's clear I'd imagine most of MN will run out to sign up to the cult enterprise.
Who on earth would spurn such a gift from God.
