Dd is obsessed with one direction, only thing she wants for Xmas is a ticket to see them next year. Of course by the time I realised they were on tour all the tickets had gone.

The prices on eBay are unreal!

How can they get away with it, 3x tickets worth £33 each have just went for £450!!!

Dd is being great about it but i wonder if she really is expecting a surprise ticket in her stocking and it breaks my heart I can't get her it.

I can understand your disappointment

But on the other hand, if I could sell tickets at that price I wouldn't think twice about it.

I think from now on you'll just have to be on the ball regarding dates of upcoming concerts.

Groovee · 27/11/2012 21:06

I've only got tickets thanks to a kind friend. But my other friend didn't know and won't pay the prices even though her dh told her to.

hazleweatherfieldgirldetective · 27/11/2012 21:09

I think its disgusting. I used to go to a lot of gigs and have on occasion had spare tickets. I've never sold them to people that showed up on the off chance for more than face value and have thrown them away rather than sell them to a fucking cuntychops tout.

FromEsme · 27/11/2012 21:13

It is awful. Really shit for people who can't get tickets.

On the other hand, it means your daughter won't have to sit through One Direction. Take her to see someone decent. She'll thank you for it when she's older.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 27/11/2012 21:17

YABU to hate people for making money out of a concert. It's a concert, it's whole purpose and reason for being is to make money out of people.

Join the fanclubs and get the tickets when they go on sale. I have often had to be up at a ridiculous time and be sat pressing f5 to get tickets the second they are released. Most fanclubs or ticket agencies also have pre-sales too for members.

nahla321 · 27/11/2012 21:22

Put your name on the waiting list at the concert hall or arena, this is what I did when they came to my city earlier this year and fortunately somebody returned a pair and I was able to buy them directly. I ended up paying over the odds for Drake, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj tickets though as was desperate for them and couldn't get hold of them anywhere else. They do usually come down in price especially standing tickets closer to the time.

People buy tickets and want to make a profit - they always have. Problem now is that Ticketmaster (who own MEN) control the prices and participate in secondary ticketing. Stuff on ebay might be customers with extra tickets or firms like Viagogo,GetMeIn etc who have taken to buying all the tickets they can to resell at prices they want to charge. Your favourite acts also encourage this as it may mean they get more oney

AbuseHamzaMousseCake · 27/11/2012 21:52

Personally I think that anyone who is 'desperate' to go to one of these overhyped events deserves the inflated prices! This is entertainment - you want to be entertained then pay up. If people stopped paying these ridiculous prices, they would soon drop to reasonable levels. Same with football and other sports events! It disgusts me that people are prepared to pay ridiculous sums to see these so called stars/heroes yet begrudge funding for essential services like NHS cleaners.

OpheliaPayneAgain · 27/11/2012 21:52

Ebay - the auction site? that would be where people bid the price up and ummm want to pay that price?

They do this because some people by the time I realised they were on tour all the tickets had gone leave it too late to get them through main stream agents.

ZillionChocolate · 28/11/2012 09:25

Meh, I get upset about crazy house prices because people need houses. No one needs concert tickets. The face value is a bit of an odd idea, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up like plane tickets which go up/down in price depending on supply and demand.

I get tour date alerts from www.ents24.com They email me when bands I've signed up for go on sale. If I'm happy with the price, I buy tickets, if I'm not, I don't. Very much like my approach to dresses and shoes.

OP I'm sorry your daughter will miss out. It's just the sort of thing that happens when demand exceeds supply. Other people are willing to pay silly money so they get the tickets.

TranceDaemon · 28/11/2012 09:35

I'm in the same boat. Think she'll just have to get over it like I had to with Michael Jackson Bad tour 1988...

I think I'm over it now. Grin

BunnyLebowski · 28/11/2012 09:40

I sold my AC/DC ticket for 3x the price on Ebay.

It was the bloody least I deserved after not being able to go thanks to permanently boob-attached 1 year old. Harumph.

PatriciaHolm · 28/11/2012 09:47

I would never buy an event ticket on eBay. Try Seatwave? They have some cheaper ones, depending on when you want to go.

izzyishavingababyAGAIN · 28/11/2012 09:47

I sold festival tickets on eBay at twice face value.

I was absolutely devasted not to go - I had had the tickets since presale.

I put them out their at face value and was hoping to get my money back - instead I got enough money to take the children away for a well deserved week.

I can't see the issue - I have been up at stupid o o'clock to get tickets - it's not the sellers issue.

I did watch the panorama programme about viagogo and won't ever use them again - at least individuals are Honest - I do object to the usual ticket resellers being deceptive.

I also love £10 "delivery" charges for an e-ticket!

squeakytoy · 28/11/2012 09:48

Green Day did a gig at Shepherds Bush in August this year. Tickets were only announced 48 hours before the gig as it was a one-off surprise show. I am in the fan club so I got presale at face value of £50. Tickets were limited to two per buyer (absolute nightmare as there were 3 of us who wanted to go.. but I managed to sign up my husband as a member too and got the extra ticket as they were released in blocks every half hour to stop them getting sold out as quickly).

They had tried to prevent touts getting hold of them, and you had to pick up your ticket at the box office, with the card you paid for them on, and with ID and you then had a wristband clamped on to you. No wristband, no entry.

There were still Buy-It-Now tickets on eBay immediately after they had gone on sale, and they were going for over £300 each, with people buying them and arranging to meet the seller at the venue.

squeakytoy · 28/11/2012 09:50

I have bought tickets off eBay before though. It is easy to see who the genuine sellers are, and who the eBay touts are.

When I went to Wembley to see Motley Crue last year, the person was selling because they had been let down by their babysitter. She sold to me at face value so I was more than happy.

Adviceinscotland · 28/11/2012 10:33

Thank you for the tips, will try some off them out.

It would never have crossed my mind to try and make a huge profit on concert tickets, it just seems wrong to me. I had to give up my take that tickets last year and sold them on gumtree for what I paid for them. I know know why i got so many calls!

And yes it may be a bit meh and not as important as huge house prices but I am allowed to be annoyed about other things.

It just seems like pure greed to me, especially since the people selling must know that the tickets will most probably be used for Xmas presents.

OP posts:
OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 28/11/2012 10:45

Maybe the money that is earned from selling tickets at over inflated prices is also going to buy someone's Christmas present.

I'd happy sell tickets for whatever I could get for them if I were in a position to, and it wouldn't even occur to me to feel an ounce of guilt.

GilbGeekette · 28/11/2012 10:49

DD (14) has 1D tickets for February. After the trauma of buying them (just don't ask!) I hoped that she'd change her mind so I could flog 'em on eBay and afford Christmas. No cigar though Sad

I hate hate hate the madness of ticket buying. It requires you to be chained to PCs seconds before kick off time and the Ticketmaster website always crashes under the strain. That said, music is the joy in DDs life so I try not to grumble too much.

Also, many moons ago, I bought tickets off eBay to see Nine Inch Nails. Worth every penny of the completely overinflated price Grin

EverlongLovesHerChristmasRobin · 28/11/2012 11:08

We were at the Killers concert the other week when it was cancelled after 4 songs, the girls behind us had paid over £300 on eBay.

Luckily they have rescheduled for Feb but if they had just pulled out they would have lost hundreds of pounds.

izzyishavingababyAGAIN · 28/11/2012 11:09

advice you don't now why people are selling and making money - concert tickets are a luxury item - it's not like they are one of lifes essentials - the money I made on mine meant the DCs got a holiday at a time when I was on the verge of a complete breakdown - I don't feel an ounce of guilt - it's hard work getting the tickets and I'd have peferred to be in a state to go to the festival.

Cest la vie.

izzyishavingababyAGAIN · 28/11/2012 11:11

And it's not greed - it's money making - like any other way of making money.
