Righto

freakingaht · 24/11/2012 20:26

Oh shit! the shame! I have definately been spelling it wrong for ages, oh fuck, sorry!

Idocrazythings · 24/11/2012 20:31

I definately struggle with seperate!! Grin. I have taught myself to spell it properly only by knowing that when I write separate and it looks odd, I know it's the right way (same as definitely, and different as well come to think of it?)

OHforDUCKScake · 24/11/2012 20:47

I too often see people talking about vaccinations as 'jags' instead of 'jabs'.

Seriously? Jags?

brumblebee · 24/11/2012 21:00

I was always to taught to remember about the RAT in sepaRATe. Works for me.

Jingleflobba · 24/11/2012 21:10

I confess. I am one of the people who can't spell it! Every way I try it doesn't look right, even when I spellcheck it...
Blush

LibrarianByDay · 24/11/2012 22:18

Really Brumblebee - how does that help then? It's the PAR in separate that people need to remember.

Delalakis · 24/11/2012 23:40

Another annoying one is people writing loose when they mean lose.

victoriaplum01 · 24/11/2012 23:57

Perhaps what Brumblebee meant was the rule I was taught: "there's always a-rat in separate." Works for me Smile

BTW, am I the only one who has murderous thoughts at the use of 'hun' or 'hunni?'

ByTheWay1 · 25/11/2012 09:44

Ours when you separate you get the PARts

brumblebee · 25/11/2012 15:22

Thank you victoriaplum, that is exactly what I meant to say.

andyrandy · 25/11/2012 15:29

One that annoys me is enormity used instead of enormousness when referring to size rather than monstrous wickedness.

BinksToEnlightenment · 25/11/2012 15:42

Ooh ooh ooh! Let me join in!

Surprise - two Rs

Accommodation - two Cs two Ms

Separate - the Es with As

Lose - not loose you slaaaaaaaaaag

ThePathanKhansWitch · 25/11/2012 16:02

Sorry.

digerd · 25/11/2012 18:26

I remember spelling by visual memory and shape. But, as I've got older and my brain is more tired, I am making more and more mistakes - including definitly, as it does not look right at all and is not pronounced with a "nit"

But the english language spelling is a right pain - german is so easy.
My main problem now is when the "e" is dropped before a y or ing.
Loose and lose are pronounced differently, so don't understand the problem there.
