I've decluttered my house. And now I feel like it would be good for me to declutter my life. I spend way too much time on the internet and it's not actually restful use of my spare time.

Oh, but I need mumsnet in a crisis I do. Maybe just facebook and twitter.

I am an addict.

Ha! Good luck with that!

See you in a few weeks.

BattlingFanjos · 21/11/2012 22:42

I have had no internet access for 5 days....that's all, just 5 days. In EVERY situation I have found myself in (in these horrendous 5 days) mumsnet mantras have circled my head. Now I'm back online and have caught up on everything and honestly feel so much calmer!!

This started as a "Don't do it!" answer, but think I've changed my mind and will join you in shutting it all down for a while Sad I need help!!!

thatlldopigthatlldo · 21/11/2012 22:42

yeah, rest.
y'know you're all lovely and everything but you're like little voices in my head.
wibble.

I'm envious but I think I'd be scared of finding nothing else to fill the time with.
Hope you make it to a year!

UserError · 21/11/2012 22:44

I toy with giving up the Internet from time to time. Taking breaks from being online does me a lot of good and gets me doing lots of cleaning. A whole year though? I couldn't do that.

You've inspired me though, for the rest of this week I'm not going to go online in the daytime and I'm going to limit my time online to 2hrs a night, max.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/11/2012 22:45

There's a site blocker thing, isn't there - but I haven't taken the plunge. Maybe I will one day.

thatlldopigthatlldo · 21/11/2012 22:47

i don't suppose any of you are going to say 'i did that and it was great' because those people aren't here.

btw, i'm not starting just yet, was thinking about a new years resolution.

YADNBU. Me too. Except Twitter, cos I don't. Bonne bloody chance. And Happy New Year!!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 21/11/2012 22:53

If you've decluttered your house, that means you could, y'know - do stuff in the time you'd normally spend online.
I tend to feel overwhelmed by the clutter and think, best just MN as sorting it is such a huge task.
I used to read books on decluttering - pre MN.

thatlldopigthatlldo · 21/11/2012 22:55

yup, actually i've still got to declutter the kitchen, but the rest of the house is nearly there. i'm enjoying the calm.

i need calm.

thatlldopigthatlldo · 21/11/2012 22:58

Smile fuck that feels good.

thatlldopigthatlldo · 21/11/2012 23:13

and so easy!

MammaTJ · 22/11/2012 04:13

I don't think you need to get rid if you have managed to de clutter your house. I manage to throw food at my family between threads and that is about it. Grin

zlist · 22/11/2012 09:33

I have done this kind of thing in the past - never a whole year though (few months)!
I found myself to be happier overall, mainly because the anxiety born from procratination (and vice-versa) was reduced. I bring work home often and it is certainly much easier to read a few threads on MN rather than getting on with it!
What I don't understand about myself is why I start up again. I know I need to stop again now...
I liken it to starting a diet and then falling off the wagon after about 10 weeks despite enjoying being on it. Unfortunately for me I have never managed to get to a happy maintanence position so I am either boom or bust with both my weight and my internet time-wasting habits. I'm not giving up getting to that happy place though!
The site(s) that cause the issue do change though. I completely left my biggest time waster site a few years back and have no interest at all in going back and I've always seem to have a healthy relationship with facebook (can take it or leave it/usually make a couple of short visits a week). My 'problem' site at the moment is definitely mumsnet. Followed by the daily mail Blush.
Right - you have inspired me. I am going to get off mumsnet and the DM for a week. Starting now!

AlienRefluxLooksLikeSnow · 22/11/2012 09:34

Yes, YABU, fakebook and twitter maybe but MN??? are you mad woman?

Justforlaughs · 22/11/2012 09:35

I tried giving up fb for a while (hadn't found mn at the time) I lasted 2 days, so good luck!

Fenton · 22/11/2012 09:37

By all means get rid of FB and twitter but not MumsNet.

Mumsnet is NOT clutter Hmm

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 22/11/2012 09:40

why would you? I dip in and out and use it as recreation instead of telly. I like the interaction. much better than sitting on my own quietly or cleaning I still spend time in RL and at work so maybe I am not one of the most prolific having said that its not often a day goes by without some input. This is just MN by the way, can't be bothered with twitter Facebook stuff.

DameMargotFountain · 22/11/2012 09:41

please don't go, your NN is one of my all time favourites, OP Grin

but if you do go, can i inherit your name, i'll capitalise it so people will know the difference and to keep Chaos happy

HipHopOpotomus · 22/11/2012 09:42

what about Pinterest & Craftgawker?

You've got me thinking though OP!!!

CombustionEngine · 22/11/2012 09:56

YANBU... but only as long as you blog about it Wink

LivingInAPinkBauble · 22/11/2012 09:57

We have had no regular Internet here for over a year (thanks bt). Means I am not a regular user of fb, twitter or even mumsnet. I have been on for last few days because we bought hideously expensive bt access, but I go for long times only able to check emails quickly on rubbish phone. I am a procrastinator so one less thing to spend hours on is good for me but I do then miss the social aspect. It is possible!
