Am I the only person that thinks sending children to school in their nightwear is a bit inappropriate?

Although having worked with young sex offenders am I being over sensitive?

Mine went in in a onsie and dressing gown she was over the moon. She's been desperate to wear her pj's to school for a while. Strange thing.

bottersnike · 16/11/2012 12:23

Our school recommended wearing normal clothes underneath.
Boys therefore looked hilarious in long-sleeved top and trousers, plus pyjamas, plus dressing gowns over the top. And cycle helmets :)
They loved it!

buttercrumble · 16/11/2012 12:25

YABU, its only a bit of fun.....

mrskeithrichards · 16/11/2012 12:26

I hate when these days too.

It means i have to rake out a matching set!

Anonymumous · 16/11/2012 12:29

It's a stupid thing to do in the middle of November. My boys looked ridiculous walking to school this morning as well - they looked as if I'd forgotten to get them dressed. And when you think how much criticism chav Mums get for doing the school run or going to Tesco's in their pyjamas...!

fuzzpig · 16/11/2012 12:30

DD refused to wear pyjamas today :(

She's been off sick for most of the last two weeks and was so excited to go back today as she loves school, but then we DH told her it was PJ day she suddenly said she didn't want to go! Thankfully the newsletter said they can wear spotty clothes if they want.

She was really really horrified at the thought of wearing jammies, even though we said all her friends would be wearing them. Bless her.

cuteboots · 16/11/2012 12:39

My son had to wear pyjamas today and I had to locate a matching set! Once Id done this its appears hes grown a bit and the are was a bit of gap between the pyjama bottoms and his shoes!!

Vagndidit · 16/11/2012 12:43

My DS was a bit Envy watching all the other neighborhood kids heading to school in pyjamas this morning. His school decided to have a spotty street clothes day instead. Boring!!...and admittedly a bit harder to accommodate. Had to resort to homemade spotty t-shirt made with pound shop spot stickers...

gallifrey · 16/11/2012 13:36

That's fine I was quite prepared to be told I WBU, such a shame that my work has tainted my view of everything :(

ISeeThreadPeople · 16/11/2012 13:45

It is a shame that your view has been tainted, but not unusual sadly.

My good friend (and mother of dd's bf) works in child protection and she cannot separate work from raising her children at all. I actually think it's causing a wee bit of harm tbh. I've taken the dc bowling with her and we've had to leave after 15 minutes because the man in the next lane fitted 'a profile' and had been smiling at the dc and chatting to us- as had the rest of his party. He genuinely seemed like a friendly chap (out with his gf and some friends). But he had a big belt buckle you see, which paedophiles wear to get dc to look at that area and some other soft markers like the size of his bag and how he kept it close to him whenever he went to the bar for a coke or to the loo. Her dc come here after school sometimes. Her or her dh come over in order to get the dc changed into after school clothes and then they go again. Nobody else is allowed to help them change. It goes on and on. No soft play, no being left at parties, no school trips etc.

MrsCantSayAnything · 16/11/2012 13:58

Mine went in Pjs and had t shirts and leggings beneath as its freezing! I put fleece jackets on them and ugg boots. Others came in big dressing gowns. They were all thrilled. Yabu.

MrsCantSayAnything · 16/11/2012 14:00

paedophiles wear big belt buckles what? Confused sorry if I am being ignorant ThreadPeople but is that not a lot of twaddle? And what has the size of someones bag got to do with anything?

CouthyMowEatingBraiiiiinz · 16/11/2012 14:01

Um, considering at least half my DC's primary were wearing fleecy onesies, and the ones that weren't were wearing dressing gowns on top of pyjamas, it shows far less than summer uniform for school does.

Not many DC's are going to wear an actual nightie to school in November, are they?

And how is a child in pyjamas anything to do with sex?

I think YABU, and your previous experiences are colouring your perception of this.

MustafaCake · 16/11/2012 14:04

Oh no, I'm wearing my skinny jeans with a huge belt today...................
And I've got my massive tote bag (full of DS2's nappies/baby stuff)

WTF, that woman is mad.

HeadfirstForHalos · 16/11/2012 14:06

If I had reason to think that sending my dc to school in PJs was inappropriate, I wouldn't be sending my dc to school at all. I trust the teachers at my school.

ISeeThreadPeople · 16/11/2012 14:07

The size of his bag wasn't proportionate to going bowling and therefore he could have recording equipment in it. She had dealt with a case where somebody used his belt buckle (big showy thing with writing and pictures on it) as a thing to 'show off'. It isn't healthy. It isn't normal. I was merely using my friend as an extreme example of how spending all day every day for 15yrs profiling sexual predators has led her to see danger everywhere.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 16/11/2012 14:07

I don't like the wearing pyjamas to school thing, and I'm glad none of the schools I'm associated with do it. It's just odd.

My kids only wear the bottom half of short pyjamas to bed anyway, as we have our house quite warm, and I'd have to go out and buy pyjamas if they did this.

mumofthemonsters808 · 16/11/2012 14:08

Just a bit of fun in my eyes, onesies were the most popular choice in DD's school and she was thrilled to be seen in hers.

amck5700 · 16/11/2012 14:08

It means i have to rake out a matching set!

The OCD in me is horrified at the thought of poor children wearing non matching pyjamas - it's actually making my teeth itch!! that's not a good thing surely?!

We were told it was spotty clothes today - 11year old son has gone in "square" spots! Glad it wasn't PJs he'd have wanted to wear his onesie which is a bit snug and leaves nothing to the imagination - no room for clothes underneath either! his bottom looks like it has been cheesewired. So I can see what the OP means but wouldn't be concerned in general - kids wear far less when doing PE.

Hulababy · 16/11/2012 14:10

I have also worked with sex offenders, including those who abuse children. I still think yabu regarding this and over sensitive yes.

whois · 16/11/2012 14:11

PJs are NOT sexy.

Lonelynessie · 16/11/2012 14:12

Yabu. My dd went to school today wearing her onesie and dressing gown. Completely covered up and warm and cosy. Most other children also had them on. I saw nothing wrong with it at all, I mean she's not running around in skimpy negligee Hmm

trifling · 16/11/2012 14:12

I don't really like it either, pjs outside the house give me the creeps and my kid had a totalmeltdown at the trauma of getting it right. What are all these onesies your kids have? never seen them a kid over three?

MrsCantSayAnything · 16/11/2012 14:14

You can get all in one suits for older kids in most shops now trifling M&S I think do them....so do Primark and H&M.
